TRL Header.png

In every land, in every age, there are always tyrants that will prey on those who are weaker than themselves. Given free reign, they will spread their lies across the land. They build empires on a foundation of deceit, manipulation, and boundless ambition. Left unchecked these tyrants will devastate East Island, and all it's inhabitants, in wars without end. The Kingdom of Perdan will not stand idly by while the East Island is led into ruin and destruction. The Rampant Lion will stand forth as a beacon of truth regarding the travails of Perdan as it seeks to oppose those who would bring destruction upon our lands. As events in Perdan unfold, they will be chronicled here so all people on the East Island have access to an accurate, fair accounting of the events taking place in our world.
The only thing necessary
for the triumph [of evil]
is for good men to do nothing.

In an interview earlier today, Queen Clarissa of Perdan released the following statement regarding the recent peace treaty between Perdan and Itorunt.

"As all nobles of Perdan know, and many of our good citizens, we have agreed to peace with the Kingdom of Itorunt. I hope this is the birth of a long friendship between Itorunt and Perdan, something we have not had together in the history of our realms."

We here at The Rampant Lion agree whole-heartedly with Queen Clarissa's statement.

Invasion repelled, Attackers routed!
Three cheers for the Perdanese army! In a long series of running battles, the army of Perdan has repelled, routed, and completely decimated a massive invading army of Sirionand Fontan troops. The invading army of over 2,500 men fell for the Perdanese trap and attacked the capital city of Partora. After an epic battle, then enemy troops were repelled from the city's high walls and thrown back. During the attack, the Perdanese reinforcements swept out from Perdan city and cut off the enemy's path of retreat in Brive. The reinforcing Perdanese troops also managed to catch some lagging enemy forces in Bescanon, denying them the critical reinforcements they needed to secure their escape.

Although the invaders managed to regroup and successfully swarm over the walls in a second attack, the majority of their forces were still scattered and routed. A mere handful were able to gain access to the city of Partora itself. Before long, the Perdanese reinforcements from Brive arrived and took care of the remaining enemy troops in the city. Over the next several days the Perdanese army harassed and harried the enemy as they attempted to flee back through Brive, Bescanon, and eventually to Troyes. Very few enemy nobles managed to make it to Troyes with any of their men left alive. Dozens of their nobles were wounded or imprisoned. The General of Sirion himself, Sir Boom Boomm, former Duke of Slimbar was captured in the attack on Partora. Several other region lordsof both Fontan and Sirion were seriously wounded or Captured.

In total, over 90 enemy nobles participated in the invasion culminating in the attack on Partora. That amounts to over one half of the nobles of both Fontan and Sirion put together! The vast majority of these nobles left their entire troop of men dead on the battlefield, dying while trying to escape to Troyes, or hunted down by the Perdanese forces. The massive enemy losses reduced the military strength of Sirion and Fontan to levels never before seen, even lower than the levels seen during the height of their long and bloody wars with Oligarch.

Hopefully Perdan has now demonstrated to these vultures the strength of her resolve to resist their incursions into our territory. Perdan will never surrender to the likes of these. We have resisted them time and again. They have left untold thousdands of their troops dead on Perdanese soil. We will continue to send them home, bloody and battered, as many times as it takes to convince them that Perdan is not the easy target she seemd just a few weeks ago!

I think there is something Perdan should do, with the ongoing war in the north.

I think we should move the capital to Perdan city. It's more well is well fortified, and it's closer to the front we are fighting on, so then we can finally go on offense up north.

We can't sit around and twiddle our thumbs waiting for them to come. I know were playing offensive downsouth, but If we weren't being cooped up north in either partora or Perdan, Partora wouldn't have been sacked for 12 hours.

We could destroy any Ibladesh raiding party they could to muster. I think with a little gusto and some luck, they could make it to Partora. But they wouldn't make it to Perdan, for sure. We could also move it up north to control the flip-flop states of brive and Bescanon. These 2 regions have become like a Clermont, switching hands constantly. It is a foothold in our empire, like Clermont is a foothold in Ibladeshs.

Of course, it would come with its disadvantages. A further walk to fight the Ibbys, but they seem to be coming north anyways. But since we have made peace with Itorunt, maybe Ibladesh and its little buddy Yssaria will stop soon too. It could also mean an easier looting of our capital, but we'd also have a force to stop it.

Now, i'm not really sure if this is allowed (some stuff I read in other newspapers discussion page) but it could also just be a move to tell pointy ears and the Fontan lapdoggies to beat it.

In a recent article, the editors of the Red Star Courier have published a rather long editorial regarding the state of the conflict between Caligus and Yssaria. At its core, the article makes the claim that Caligus is a dishonorable realm for several reasons. Among them is the fact that those scurvy scalliwags in Caligus won't just lay down and die.

Specifically, the Red Star editor claims the following: "The choice for Caligus is clear, some honor in defeat, or total dishonor leading to total destruction." The Yssarian demands for peace with Caligus include the surrender of Domus, the Caligan capital city. As Domus is also Caligus' only city, and none of their other remaining regions is a townsland region, that would mean the destruction of Caligus. Without a capital, the realm would soon die.

It seems to me that Yssaria has given Caligus a Hobson's choice: Kill yourselves [by surrendering your capital to us], or we'll kill you [by taking it from you]. In either case, the result is the same: The death of the realm of Caligus. Let's leave aside for a minute all the issues of who started what, and who atacked who/when/where. The peace treaty Yssaria is offering Caligus really isn't a peace treaty at all. It's an executioner's warrant. Yssaria is asking Caligus to do the honorable thing and show up at the gallows of their own free will. Only a suicidal fool would agree to that.

It is our opinion that it would be much better for Yssaria to offer Caligus a treaty that would allow them to survive as a realm, much like the Southern Federation did with Ubent. One possible option would be to take Aestus and Sordidus and leave Caligus with Domus, Scio, and Nascot. With only those three regions Caligus would be a threat to no one. Yssaria would have won. A second option would be for Yssaria to negotiate the return of Tokat from Light of Fountain to Caligus. It is a townsland region and could be used as the capital of the realm of Caligus. In this case, Yssaria would need to allow Caligus to retain Aestus and Sordidus, but that is hardly much of a concession. They are both low population regions with very little gold to offer. Yssaria would have won the prize region of Domus from Caligus. Either option provides Caligus a choice whether to live with their defeat, or die in battle, as Oligarch, Rancagua, and Avamar chose to do.

In any case the terms of the (so called) peace treaty being offered is, of course, up to Yssaria. But if they insist that the peace terms include the surrender of Domus, well... Call a spade a spade, is what I always say. Yssaria should at least be honest about it, and admit that what they seek is the complete destruction of Caligus. Don't expect the Caligans to fall all over themselves to be the first to agree to this so-called peace. After all, Yssaria really gives them no choice but to fight to the last man.

In a welcomed, but unexcpected of events, Itorunt and Perdan have agreed to a cease-fire, and eventually Peace.

Queen Clarissa and King Lucian have shown a willingness for peace. King Lucian also proposed a peace treaty to Ibladesh on behalf of Perdan, but Quake said no. Here are the terms: Instrument of Peace between the Kingdom of Perdan and the Empire of Itorunt

Being necessary to ensure the honourable settlement of conflict and embrace of peace in the south-west, the aforementioned agree to the following:

  • 1) The aforementioned will improve relations to peace.
  • 2) The Kingdom of Perdan will renounce all claims on the region of Clermont in favour of the Empire of Itorunt.
  • 3) The Kingdom of Perdan will offer the region of Bisciye to the Empire of Itorunt.
  • 4) The Empire of Itorunt will renounce all claims on the region of Lorient in favour of the Kingdom of Perdan.
  • 5) The Empire of Itorunt will not intervene in an aggressive fashion in the war between the Kingdom of Perdan and the Theocracy of Ibladesh, unless the continued independent existence of the Theocracy of Ibladesh be threatened.
  • 6) These terms may be renegotiated and confirmed at a later date with the consent of both parties.

Beautiful! Lovely! Perdan has made the right step to peace. This is one enemy that we don't have to worry about. I hope we can come to peace on all sides, with every enemy.

First I would like to thank the itorunt informer for posting this, because I would not have been able to get it. According to II, the peace terms will be:
  • Sordidus will be given to Light of Fountain.
  • Aestus will be returned to Yssaria.
  • We (yssaria) will not attack Domus for two weeks, pending compliance with the agreement.
  • Perdan will give Caligus Partora, a city, and other connecting regions.
  • Scio and Domus will then be given to Yssaria.

I don't really like it, myself. Not because we have to hand over partora, but because Caligus gets totally shifted upwards. Bloody victories were won by Caligus on the walls of Domus. There is history there, and they feel fit to just hand it over? That gives Yssaria one more city ( I forget what level the walls were. ) If yssaria eventually says ' bollocks to the peace agreement ' Which I don't doubt they will, Caligus will have alot of city sacking to do. Oh, and don't worry about giving away our capital. Of course the senate will move it somewhere else (probably Perdan - thats the logical place). -- Atticus

Tournament Held in Castle Ubent
News has just arrived that the tournament held in Castle Ubent was attended by 105 nobles from across the East Island. Given that the admission fee to the tournament was 20 gold, and only 1000 gold was handed out in prize money, Ubent made a rather decent profit on the tournament.

The 400 gold first prize for swordfighting went to Sir Manfred, Royal Treasurer of Itorunt. Sir Speedy, Grand Justiciar of Ubent took the 100 gold second prize. The 400 gold first prize in the jousting contest was won by Sir Sparky of Light of Fountain. Sir Nnix, Paladin Primus of Light of Fountain took the 100 gold second place prize.

Talless Twinblade, Banker of Caligus, Killed by Lightning!
In a second act of divine retribution in less than a week, another noble of the East Island has been struck down by lightning. The latest victim, Talless Twinblade, Royal Banker of Caligus was incinerated by a lightning storm mere hours ago. It is believed that Talless somehow insulted the gods, and the lightning storm was sent as both a punishment, and a warning to other nobles across the island.

Talless was complaining to the realm of Caligus about a failed rebellion on another island. The rebels had huge number advantage and lost. Then Talless accused one of the coders of screwing with the code to enable a victory for the loyalists. -- Atticus

Cease-fire in Caligus
Son of patrick, the high marshal in Caligus, has said a temporary cease-fire has been called between Caligus and Yssaria.

They are pretty simple terms, but terms none-the-less

  • Yssaria will not attack Domus, Scio, or Nascot
  • Caligus will not attack any Yssarian regions

But in Aestus, they are still debating. Maybe it's because the Yssarians want it back after the recent succesful takeover by Caligus. Either way, it is a step in the right direction. I assume this is the first time there has been peace in a long time in this region, and it will insure Caligus' future for a little bit longer. -- Atticus

Attack on Domus repelled, attackers routed!
The combined armies of Itorunt and Yssaria have launched a massed assault on Domus, the capital city of Caligus. As our readers know, Yssaria has been bent on the destruction of Caligus for quite some time. They have managed to push the Caligan forces back and take control of the majority of regions formerly under Caligan control. Although Caligus has been reduced to a mere 4 regions, the Yssarians have been unable to achieve any further victories. Instead, the Caligans have been fighting back and achieving major victories against the Yssarian army.

Facing their lack of success, the Yssarians have been reduced to asking their federated allies for help. The Itorunt army answered the plea for help by sending sending one of their army divisions to their aid. The combined Itorunt/Yssarian army mustered over 2000 men. The Caligans weren't sitting around doing nothing while their enemies prepared their assualt, however. In addition to recruiting a rather respectable army of their own, the Caligan craftsmen were busily at work fortifying their defenses. The attackers apparently did not notice this, and were quite surprised to find the walls of Domus much more formidable than they had counted on.

Too late to call off the attack, the Itorunt and Yssarian forces continued in their assault. The assault was an utter and complete failure. The attacking armies broke on the reinforced walls of Domus. The defending troops cut them down as they attempted to scale the fortifications. In the end, over three quarters of the attackers lay dead or dieing, while managing to wound or kill less than one third of the less numerous defenders. The remaining attackers fled in panic, thoroughly routed.

With the complete destruction of both of the attacking armies, it was indeed a good day for Caligus. While the Yssarian army will be able to repair, recruit, and return in only a few days, the Itorunt army faces a long, bitter walk back to their capital. The Itorunt commander will then be faced with having to explain how he managed to lose nearly his entire army against a realm that they expected to be dead within another day or two.

Interview with Queen Clarissa of Perdan
Queen Clarissa has graciously agreed to take some time away from the administration of Perdan to answer a few questions for our readers. We hope that this interview will enlighten our readers as to Queen Clarissa's history before she came to Perdan, her views on the current military and political situation, and where Perdan stands in the troubled political waters of the East Island. Here's a short excerpt from the interview:

We’re the hinges of the door to peace. Once the conflict with our enemies ends toward Caligus and Perdan, then the entire Island can move forward into more peaceful times. We’ve been at war for so very long, all of us, and it’s time we allow the Island to heal.

You can read the entire interview here.

High Marshal of Yssaria Killed by Lightning!
In an awesome display of divine retribution, the gods have seen fit to strike down Abishur, the High Marshal of Yssaria in a lightning storm that will be remembered for many lifetimes. When the lightning storm ended, Abishur lay dead, his remains reduced to a charred and smoking corpse. Following the lightning storm, the local priests attempted to contact the gods to ascertain the reason for their displeasure. The priests reported that the gods anger was caused by statements Abishur made relating to the behavior of the nobles of Yssaria regarding their future activity, and the upcoming tournament in Ubent. The priest's full interpretation has been published in the Caligan Courier.

The soldiers of Perdan were defeated by the Fontanese army in the fields of Troyes. Both sides fought very bravely. Multiple Troop leaders of Perdan have been captured, but the Fontanese mostly evaded capture (One of their TLS will be enjoying his stay in our dungeons.) Firebrand of Perdan, who just recently joined our glorious realm, was seriously wounded. We wish him the best of health.

On the lighter side, The Friendly TO in Meuse has succeeded. Congratulations to the troops there! Now (your editor assumes) they will be returning to the battlefields . -- Atticus

Today has been a rather bad day for Sirionite infiltrators. Two of their infiltrators, including the hated Lady Katia, were caught in Perdan. One in Bescanon, and one in Perdan city. Both infiltrators were trying to infiltrate nobles of Perdan. The Lady Katia made the mistake of trying to attack Sir Ambrosius. As is well known, Sir Ambrosius is widely regarded as the best swordsman on the East Island, having won the swordfighting competition at the recent tournament in Fontan City.

Lady Clarissa elected as new Queen of Perdan!
Following the abdication of King Gadouha, the people of Perdan have elected Lady Clarissa as their new Queen. In a short address to the realm, Queen Clarissa thanked the nobles of Perdan for entrusting her with the leadership of therealm. She stated that her immediate concerns will be to restore order to the realm, and seek peace with our neighbors. This will be a difficult task, as it appears that few of our enemies are interested in offering an honorable peace.

Ubent surrenders!
In a startling piece of news from the south, Ubent has apparently signed a pace treaty with the southern federation. The terms of the treaty have been widely circulated across the entire East Island. It is clear that the signing of the treaty was a move of desperation on the part of Ubent. The terms make it blatantly clear that the nation of Ubent will, from this point forward, be a puppet realm of the southern federation.

Part of the treaty includes Ubent relinquishing control of three of regions: Winkamus, Mines of Isadril, and Moyale. The remaining three regions of Ubent will consist of two mountainous areas and their stronghold. In essence, Ubent will disappear in all but name.

Rebellion in Caligus!
In a surprising move today, Vlad Nosferatus, once of the inner circle of power in Caligus has initiated a rebellion in the kingdom of Caligus. Possibly prompted by the long string of defeats and losses of territory, the people of Caligus took up arms against Queen Gwynyth. Seeing the complete lack of support for her cause, Queen Gwynyth quickly stepped down and handed the crown to Vlad Nosferatus. Rumors immediately began to circulate that the new King of Caligus is desperately attempting to negotiate a peace treaty with Yssaria to prevent the complete destruction of Caligus.

Old Rancagua invades the Kalmar Islands!
In a long awaited and expected move, approximately 13,000 CS of Old Rancaguan troops have taken ship from Kazan and are traveling to Stora. Stora is adjacent to the Kalmarian capital city of Kalmar. Kalmar is also, bay far, the most populous region in the islands.

Old Rancagua is one of the original two realms to colonize the islands, along with Perdan. Following the brutal rebellion headed by El Cid, the former Avamarians moved in and took over. The former monarchy was replaced with a democracy. It was only a matter of time before Old Rancagua, with a well known, deep rooted hatred of Avamar, would send their army to root out of the invading Avamarians and return the government of the Islands to it's lawful monarchy. Given the vast difference in military strength between the two realms, this will hopefully be a short conflict.
