Malice is one of the first brothers Osha and a part of the first generation of Oshan nobles who left the safety of Koolaris to pursue a career abroad. Although initially one of the youngest and inexperienced members of House Osha, Malice has both through luck and skill managed to become one of the most successful and senior members of the House as well as its most recognisable standard bearer throughout the known world. During his long and illustrious life Malice has served as the renowned Baron of Mapo, a decorated general and war hero and twice reigned as King of Ash Sea Islands.
Early Life
Malice was the fourth born son of Henry and Matilda Osha and thus the youngest of the first generation of the Oshan nobility. His was a difficult existence, growing up in the shadow of his older brothers and when he finally came of age was motivated by a strong desire to leave that shadow of his siblings far behind. Whilst his brothers began to climb the noble hierarchies of the realms of the Colonies, Malice chartered a ship to take him to Atamara where he could begin his noble career free of the baggage of family.
When Malice first made landfall in Ash'rily, it was down to luck rather than design. A simple refitting exercise after the ships stocks had become dangerously low. Yet Malice declined to continue his journey to the next port, being utterly mesmerised by the size of the city he had ended up in. A place that was several times the size of the largest cities he had seen in the Colonies and all put together with a style of architecture that strongly appealed to him, despite the gloomy atmosphere it invoked when the sun was hidden behind the clouds. Malice' career in the Ash Sea Islands had begun.
From Ash'rily, Malice slowly made his way across the Islands to Ser'quea, capital of his new realm where the Ashlantean army was gathering for a new conflict. It was a painstaking wait, with King Talius Sargeras Valorian taking his time making the necessary arrangements. Malice, in his naivety almost found himself swept up in a vitriolic campaign against the monarch, but had enough of his senses about him not to join the crowing and so early jeopardise his life in the Ash Sea Islands. The days passed into weeks and then, suddenly, the Ash Sea Islands found herself at war.
War and Mapo
Malice found himself involved in two separate conflicts that seemed to merge into one. On the one hand, they were embroiled in a battle with the Empire of Tara and on the other, the waning Kingdom of Southasland which had recently been overthrown by Tuchanese nobles and Taran sympathisers. For the most part during this time, Malice simply ensured to be involved in as many battles as possible, flawlessly implementing the orders of High Marshal Doc's Revenge and even embarked upon the path of the Hero in a bid to distinguish himself from the flotsam and jetsam of less martially gifted nobles.
Slowly but surely, Malice began to gain the notice of the most influential and important members of the Ashlantean nobility. Most notably, Malice was publicly honoured by King Nautilus for his diligent and thorough dissemination of scout reports to the realm. It was and remains to this day, one of Malice' proudest moments. Not long after that, after being present for Lord Otto von Christenson's liberation of Mapo, Malice was appointed as Baron of Mapo in a lavish ceremony and a new chapter began in Malice' life.
Around the same time as Malice' ascendance to lordship, the war with Tara ended with the capitulation of her capital, Aja and for a time it looked like life would grow more peaceful in the Ash Sea Islands. Though Malice was part of a small Ashlantean force sent to help RedSpan in the Taran war's aftermath against Carelia, which not only marked Malice out as a rare Ashlantean who had at one point fought alongside RedSpaniards, but the experience also proved invaluable to him in his later role as High Marshal.
Following the skirmishes in Carelia, the Ash Sea Islands marched in support of Drachenwald, which was coming under increasing pressure from the Cagilan Empire. Little did he know that it would herald one of the darkest days of his life. It was upon walking through the gates of Tarasac, the Drachenwald capital, that news came from the south of Abington's betrayal of the Ash Sea Islands and the sacking of the Isles. It was with a growing sense of horror and anger that Malice, alongside the rest of his Ashlantean brethren, returned home with near reckless abandon. They each were intent on one thing alone. Saving Ash'rily.
