Taraicon.png Mapo

The Barony of Mapo is a sparsely populated region on the coast of the Ash Sea. As a badlands, Mapo is largely inhospitable. Those brave souls who call this land home are a hardy folk who live in scattered villages. The capital of Mapo is built into a spur of the mountains coming out of Inxi, and is protected by heavy stone palisades mined from the mountains themselves. In recent times, a number of small rivers were diverted to bring more water to the capital, and trees from Foda were planted throughout the capital, giving it the appearance of a small forest in the middle of the inhospitable rocks. Metal is mined along the Southeast boarders near Inxi and Jauchu. Farmers, through hard work and dedication, force grain to grow here in small amounts. While much of this grain is sent away to feed the Kingdom, the Mapans are able to brew the now famous Mapan Ale from what is left. This drink is a favorite throughout the Southern Kindom's. Mapan Ale has replaced bread in the diet of the Mapan people (you get the nutrition of bread with a buzz). Even children learn to drink it, at least those who are tall enough to look over the bar without a step stool. This tradition of drinking has lead to a renowned tradition of cavalry who, in a drunken rage, rush upon their terrified enemies with devastating effect.

Taraicon.png History

The Barony of Mapo was once, in ages past, a constituent part of Southasland - a realm which now only exists in the History books. During the final weeks of Southaslands life, the Ash Sea Islands fought the Southaslanders bitterly for the affluent region of Mapo and eventually won as the Southaslanders succumbed to internal bickering and were faced with other hostile armies who threatened their very capital. Mapo become apart of the Ash Sea Islands.

Immediately after Mapo capitulated to the forces of the Ash Sea Islands, it was left alone to fend for itself for several months, until eventually, King Nautilus Spiliz returned to the region, accompanied by Malice who was duly knighted as the new Baron of Mapo. Although typically Malice regarded the Citizens of Mapo with disdain, he did attempt to at least treat them properly and keep them safe. So concerned was Malice at the state of the Fortifications in the region upon his appointment that he even assisted the people in repairing the walls himself!

For some time afterwards Malice took a decidedly 'hands off' approach to Lordship, usually only visiting Mapo once or twice a month - and even then, usually only to pilfer some more Mapan Ale from the region. A local beverage he had become highly fond off. The people of Mapo however, did not complain much. Afterall Malice was so proud of the Ale his people produced that he even offered Doc's Revenge Primus - the new Monarch of the Ash Sea Islands - an entire swimming pool full of it upon his Coronation!

Since then Malice steadily grew to adore his subjects and Mapo, something shown by his increasingly frequent visits to the region and the gusto in which he set about expanding infastructure in the region recently.

Some time later, Mapo became part of Tara along with the duchy seat it now supports, Tucha. Lord Regstav of the Pryde_Family recently instituted a plan to divert several nearby rivers to bring more water to the capital. Fountains and trees are being built and planted as we speak, bringing a piece of the lord's beloved Foda to Mapo.

Taraicon.png Places of Interest

Given the long and varied history of Mapo there are many places of historical significance or worthy of note across the Barony. Listed below are some of the most popular.

The Site of the 'Final Battle'

Located somewhere in Mapo's North West, the site of the final battle is where the brave Ash Sea Islanders led by Lord Otto, fought decisively against the new servants of Tuchanon for control of Mapo. Although only a relatively small expeditionary force had been sent to fight against the forces of Southasland, it turned out to be just enough and after a long and bitter battle with the Southaslanders the Ashlanteans eventually claimed victory. From here on in the Barony of Mapo would no longer answer to Southasland control, however it would still be several months before Southasland culture in the region dissipated, and even then it took the final death of Southasland at the hands of Falasan to bring about the end of Southasland influence.

Nowadays the scars of the vicious battle that once took place here are all but gone, healed by the spread of the wilderness. The only visible mark of the battle now is the worn statue of a battle axe, commissioned by Malice when he was first appointed in remembrance of all the brave men who died there.

The Nameless Tavern

Situated just a few hundred feet and a hillside away from the site of the 'final battle', the nameless tavern has existed for countless years almost untouched by the passing of time. Served at the tavern are some of the finest local drinks in all of Mapo, however they are exclusive to the tavern itself and their name and origins are almost as mysterious as the origin of the very tavern they're served in. It's highly recommended that you remember to have a hang over remedy at hand for any visits.

The Mapan Berserker

Originally a recruitment center based directly in the middle of Mapo, it pulled in all the most courageous and daring young men from around the region to come train as fearless Axemen in the army of Ser'quea. Some argued that the decision to make the tavern next door a part of the recruitment center did more harm than good to the recruits training. The leaders usually argued otherwise - unless they were too busy quaffing tankard after tankard of ale to care...The recruitment center closed, and the tavern took over the entire complex. Now one of the most frequented taverns in Mapo, it continues to use the image of a Mapan Axeman in full armor as its emblem.

  • Horsmen of Daishi - Cavalry - One of the premier cavalry training centers on Atamara, Lord Regstav proudly leads his Mapan horsemen into battle under the flags of Tara, Mapo, and Pryde_Family crest that is very similar to that of Foda.
