Start of the Fourth Age

2007-Dec-20: Sirion just as the wars were breaking out
For earlier ages, see the East Continent Timeline.

Sirion was allied with Fontan and Old Rancagua in what was known as the Northern Alliance. This was a time of peace. The gods however did not like the peace, and they struck down with lightning at the leaders of each realm in October of 2007. Soon afterward, war was afoot once again on the East Continent, starting in the south when the realm of Itorunt declared war on Ibladesh and Yssaria.

Perdan and Caligus wished to aid their ally Itorunt, but were afraid that this would leave them vulnerable to the Northern Alliance. Perdan convinced Fontan to agree to a Unprotected Borders Agreement (UBA), which was an understanding that Fontan and Perdan would not be able to launch an attack against the other from their own lands. Fontan was aiming to create a new Coimbra realm, and approached Old Rancagua with this wish. Old Rancagua had once signed a treaty stating that they would help create a new Coimbra, but King Dekion, Old Rancagua's King at the time, denied that such a treaty existed. Things broke down into a heated argument, and insults were traded. Fontan eventually broke the federation with us (since we were federated with Old Rancagua in what was the Northern Alliance) and went to war with Old Rancagua. We were not pleased with this. Fontan asked us to remain neutral, but when a Fontanese noble accidentally wound up in the city of Oligarch, we declared war on Fontan. The realms of Obsidian Islands and Light of Fountain joined us and also declared war on Fontan.

However Fontan was a powerful force, and they kept both Old Rancagua and us at bay, and even gained some territory, while at the same time repelling the Obsidian Islands' slow and weak assaults. During all of this they also focused the brunt of their attack on the realm of Light of Fountain, finally destroying it in February.

War with Fontan / Decline of Sirion

2008-Apr-17: Avamar taken, Oligarch surrounded (SoA in white?)

Prime Minister: Handow Meadowcrest
General: Trinity Fleisher / Tung Pinetree / Romul Galmel (OOC: need confirmation)
Date: February 2008

Fontan decided to focus on Old Rancagua next, and in so doing took some of our regions as well. In fact, they completely surrounded the city of Oligarch, leaving it alone for the time being while they concentrated on Old Rancagua. Closer to us, huge and brutal battles were taking place weekly in the surrounding areas of Tabost and Oberndorf, which at the time were regions under the banner of Sirion.

Fontan was clearly gaining the upper hand against Sirion and their confederates Old Rancagua, eventually managing to capture the city of Avamar. This resulted in internal turmoils, shaking the foundation of Sirion's nobility because of the many strategic and tactical mistakes. As a result several nobles fled and left the realm, trying to escape from something that was every day more similar to a sinking boat. Sirion's noble population halved in a couple of months, for instance the former Count of Lissambar boarded a boat and was never seen again in Sirion.

In a way this was a blessing, as it got rid of those who were not completely devoted to Sirion and it created many new opportunities for the lesser nobles. For instance, Sir Meristenzio Peristaltico became the new Count of Lissambar later on in the year and he would eventually go on to become a respected military leader.

In April 2008, Sirion failed the siege Avamar due to too little troops and a bad choice of command staff, and the army was decimated. The day after the failed siege, Fontan attacked Oligarch and took it over easily.

The war kept raging on. Old Rancagua was slowly losing ground, and Sirion was desperately trying to rebuild its military hierarchy.

Perdan and Caligus, worried about Fontan becoming too powerful, warned Fontan to stop their war-mongering or face the consequences. Instead, Fontan created the Sultanate of Asena in the former Old Rancaguan city of Kazakh. For Perdan and Caligus this was the last straw, and Caligus joined the war in May of 2008.

Less than a month after its southern neighbors declared war on it, Fontan faced another setback: The Krimml Incident.

This gave Sirion the time to reorganize their ranks. Under the lead of Marshal Romul Galmel the Army of Sirion rebuilt its strength and cohesion and finally succeed in taking Avamar back under Sirion's banner.

Marshal Romul Glamel was soon appointed General of Sirion, and he chose Meristenzio Peristaltico to become his successor as Marshal of the Army of Sirion. Under the military leadership the Army of Sirion grew in size and power. However, countless battle continued to be fought and Fontan's army was still fearsome, even when attacked on all sides.

In time however, the war on two fronts proved to be too much for even Fontan. Perdan managed to claim enough regions to create a stable duchy, and through a peaceful succession they created the realm of Westmoor in September of 2008. Fontan would continue to bleed regions until December.

War with the South

Prime Minister: Handow Meadowcrest
General: Romul Glamel / Sotomayor Al-Khali / Meristenzio Peristaltico (OOC: need confirmation)
Date: December 2008

Eventually Fontan signed a separate peace with the southern realms, and Fontan and the Sultanate of Asena came back on Sirion with devastating violence. Soon Old Rancagua fell under the Sultanate of Asena's sword. Many of the nobles from Old Rancagua were welcomed into Sirion, despite being non-elves, and their numbers and forces strengthened Sirion. The understanding was that Sirion would help to rebuild Old Rancagua one day, when it was possible to do so.

Time passed and many battles were waged, Sotomayor Al-Khali was appointed General of Sirion after Romul Galmel stepped down. Once the Sultanate completed the conquest of Old Rancaguan territories, they began to help Fontan against Sirion, quickly capturing Pedrera, Obando and Caqueta, regions that joined Sirion after the fall of Old rancagua. However Fontan was weaker than before, mainly because of the loss of many regions to Westmoor and Caligus, and for the slow decay of their most powerful army, the KDF. This eventually led to another stalemate where all the border from Tabost/Dale/Obando/Caqueta was the theatre of battles and lootings and regions were shifting sides on a weekly basis.

Then, the cunning diplomacy of Fontan successfully turned Sirion's former allies into enemies: Westmoor and Obsidian Islands joined the war at Fontan's side. The sheer amount of men brought by this alliance pushed Sirion even backwards: Tabost and Dale were firmly held by Fontan, and Sermbar itself was often attacked. Again however, the military power of Sirion prevented further losses and the enemies quickly began to lose battle after battle without obtaining anything from their assault.

It was in those days that the Military Council of Sirion decided to create a new army, the Red Dragons. Sponsored by Duke Circle of Sirion and Marshalled by Romul Galmel, with Ryu Hinamoto as Vice-Marshal. This new army would be an elite mobile force, moving to support the main Army of Sirion and engaging in its own battles. The Red Dragons have since fought many battles, more than a hundred, and yet since their creation they have lost less than a handful. The creation of the Red Dragons has been decisive for Sirion's military progress. In August of 2009 Ryu Hinamoto took over as Marshal.

It was then that Perdan joined the war at the side of his ally Westmoor, while Sirion changed another General: Meristenzio Peristaltico replaced Sotomayor Al-Khali. Perdan's impressive military might quickly turned the side of the war: it was now a 5-on-1 war: Fontan, Perdan, Sultanate of Asena, Obsidian Islands and Westmoor versus the sole realm of Sirion. Many battles were fought, with enormous amount of troops on both sides (such as the legendary battle of Sermbar). The enemies improved their coordination and, after a huge battle in Sermbar where Sirion's armies were victorious but completely destroyed, the enemy realms could finally enter Sirion's mainland: looting Sir Temple and destroying the walls in Osslamar and Ustimbar. They were however driven back before being able to inflict serious damage.

Sirion was slowly losing ground, repelling enemies from Sirion's mainland but it was clear that it would have been only matter of time before we would fall. This caused further political turmoil, and Prime Minister Handow Meadowcrest did not run in the ruler elections: on 2009-09-01 Romul Galmel became Sirion's new Prime Minister.

(TODO: an illustration of the regions and their owners at this time would be worth a thousand words!)
(TODO: need to link against some of the major battles at this time, such as the retaking of Avamar.)

Resurgence

2009-Oct-17: At the time of the cease-fire

Prime Minister: Romul Gamel
General: Meristenzio Peristaltico
Date: September 2009

Things were looking grim for the realm of Sirion, with the opposition forces moving only a half-day's journey from the Sirion capital. Meanwhile the lands of Sirion were becoming famous for the renowned warriors living there: attracted by dreams of glory and battle, many families sent their heirs there, and Sirion's noble population boomed surpassing all the other realms on the continent.

Luckily for Sirion, the realm of Perdan broke off its attack and declared war on its southern neighbor Caligus. This was a pivotal turning point, and though the combined enemy forces still outnumbered them the Sirion forces were able to leverage their efficiency (being so close to the capital) and their military experience. The armies of Sirion began to win significant victories, taking back some of its previous regions such as Dale and Tabost.

During this turbulent time, Prime Minister Romul Gamel was involved in diplomatic talks with the enemies, trying to secure a cease-fire. With the sudden turn of events, the realms of Fontan, Sultanate of Asena, and Obsidian Islands agreed to stop fighting for a short time to discuss a possible long-term peace. But the terms could not be agreed upon; war resumed less than a week later, and it was bloody.

The Destruction of SoA and Creation of Nivemus

Prime Minister: Ilias Thunthorn

General: Zakilevo Lapallanch / Cimion Telerin

Date August 2011 ~ March 2012

Sirion-Early-2012.png
2012-March-28: At the beginning of the Fontan-Westmoorian War

After Fontan accepted the terms of surrender, Sirion could finally focus on SoA. A newly appointed general of Sirion, Zakilevo Lapallanch, ordered the marshals to gather around the city of Oroya, the northern most region of SoA. The assault of the city turned out to be a disaster. SoA only lost 2k while Sirion lost almost 8k. After the defeat, Sirion changed their strategy. Instead of striking remote regions, they decided to strike the heart of SoA.

The main army of SoA was waiting Sirionites in the city of Oroya at the moment as they expected Sirion to continue their assault. Sirion gathered in Juazeiro to trick SoA as Sirion gathered in Juazeiro to attack the city of Oroya previously. But isntead of attacking the city, they travelled to Kazan to attack the capital of SoA.

The duke of the capital realized this and tried to recruit militia units to defend the city but it was a futile attempt. The combined might of Sirion and OI shiftily destroyed militia units and occupied the city.

The siege of Kazakh was the turning point of the entire war. Soldiers were ordered to loot the capital just enough to prevent it from going rogue. With the capital under Sirion's hand, SoA could not recruit any addition troop to their main army. Sirion stationed one of her three armies in Kazakh while other two armies pillaged the surrounding regions of Oroya to reduce SoA's income. When SoA lost most of her rural regions, all armies of Sirion gathered in Pucallpa to assault the city once again. Thankfully, the second Siege of Oroya was a successful and the remaining army of SoA was decimated.

On December 28th of the year 1011, SoA lost her last region, Pucallpa, to a peasant revolt, ending the long history of SoA.

Two weeks after the destruction of SoA, General Zakilevo retired from his position and Sir Cimion Telerin was appointed as a new general of Sirion.

The End of the Fonto-Westmoorian War and the Siro-Westmoorian War

Prime Minister: Zakilevo Lapallanch

General: Rugina Blakeshadow / Webin clipt

Date May 2012 ~ August 2012

End of FW War.png
2012-June-24: At the beginning of the Sirion-Westmoorian War

Once Fontan began to gain ground against Westmoor, Perdan and Caligus stepped in to stop Fontan. Perdan has previously stated they would stay out of the war as long as the war stayed 1 on 1 but when their colony, Westmoor, was losing badly against Fontan, they broke their own words. To keep Sirion out of the war, Perdan promised Westmoor would not gain anything from their war against Fontan as Perdan did not seek Fontan's destruction. Caligus on the other hand attacked Fontan with a justification although it was not strong and made other realms question their motives.

Fontan quickly crumbled against the might of Perdan and Caligus, losing in their own capital against them after losing in Oporto against Caligus. As Fontan's mobile force was shattered by Caligus and Perdan, Westmoor began to claim former Fontanese regions. That was when Sirion stepped in.

The newly elected Prime Minister Zakilevo Lapallanch, also a former General, pressured Perdan to keep their words. King Nosferatu of Perdan promised they would not intervene as long as Sirion did not decide to annihilate Westmoor. Obsidian Islands, Sirion's ally which helped to fight SoA, also expressed a similar opinion.

Within a week from receiving those words, Prime Minister Zakilevo declared war on Westmoor. The armies slowly gathered in Oberndorf to assault Bruck. After almost six months of no military activity however, the armies were not what they used to be.

Sirion managed to defeat Westmoor's mobile army in Bruck and loot Bruck and Greatbridge but their slow retreat and bad movement rates allowed Westmoor to loot Commonyr and Montijo.

Sirion's newly elected General, Rugina Blakeshadow, was inactive during the most of the beginning of the war, causing confusion among military ranks. She eventually resigned from her position, allowing Marshal Webin clipt to take over.

General Webin clipt ordered the AoS to gather in Greatbridge against both Ilias and Zakilevo's suggestions. This move made Sirion paid dearly. Westmoor crushed the AoS with about the same CS as the AoS, wounding Sirion's pride.

Sirion won the rest of the battles happened in Greatbridge, Hagley and Montijo which were enough to make Westmoor surrender. Zakilevo retired to join Dunnera before signing the peace treaty, leaving it to the next Prime Minister, Rugina Blakeshadow.
