The history of Meristenzio Peristaltico

The first days as knight

Meristenzio began to serve the Peristaltico's landlord, Count of Elmbar, Andrei Darkbyte. His career began when the war between Fontan and Sirion was at its headstart. Huge and brutal battles were taking place weekly in the surrounding of Tabost and Oberndorf, at the time regions under the banner of Sirion.
Meristenzio was assigned from his very beginnings to the Army of Sirion, where he learned quickly what war was about. Even if his small income was allowing him to lead in battle only a handful of men, he joined many battles and gained his share of honor. Fontan was clearly gaining the upper hand against Sirion and their confederates Old Rancagua and when they captured Avamar, Meristenzio searched for another and more powerful landlord hoping to increase his income to better partecipate in the war that was almost at the doorstep of his family estate.

Count of Lissambar

Meristenzio become then a knight of Lissambar under Count Moby Scallywag, General of Sirion. His share of taxes was more than the average, and he kept spending everything to field as many men as he can to fight Fontan.
Turmoils shaked the foundation of Sirion's nobility because of the many strategic and tactical mistakes, several nobles fled and left the realm, trying to escape from something that was every day more similar to a sinking boat. Sirion's noble population halved in a couple of months, creating many opportunity for the lesser nobles. The former Count of Lissambar boarded a boat and was never seen again in Sirion. The new Lord was chosen between his knights: Meristenzio on the 3rd June 2008 became Count of Lissambar.
Count Meristenzio was lucky, his region was safe and prosperous and he had never been distracted from the neverending war against Fontan. Soon he found more knights ready to fight under his banner into the Army of Sirion and he began to train them in warfare, something he was beginning to be quite expert at.

Marshal of the Army of Sirion

The war was raging on. Old Rancagua was on the brink of destruction, and Sirion was desperately trying to rebuild his military hierarchy. Luckily many southern realms joined the war, attacking Fontan from behind. That gave Sirion the time to reorganize their ranks. Under the lead of Marshal Romul Galmel the Army of Sirion rebuild its strenght and cohesion and finally succed in taking Avamar back under Sirion's banner.
Meristenzio's commitment to warfare and competence in leadership soon become evident, he was befriended by the Marshal and added to the Military Council.
When Marshal Romul was appointed General of Sirion, he choosed Meristenzio to become his successor. With the approval of the Duke of Sirion Circle Tezokian, sponsor of the Army, Meristenzio began his career as Marshal of the Army of Sirion on the 2nd October 2008, almost 1 year after the beginning of his career. From that day, Meristenzio included the gray dragon of the Army of Sirion in his war insignia to openly show his attained rank.

Under Meristenzio's leadership the Army of Sirion grew in size and power. Countless battle he fought, achieving many victories, but had also his share of defeats. Fontan's army was still fearsome and, as soon as they signed a separate peace with the southern realms, they come back on Sirion with devastating violence.
Soon Old Rancagua fell under Fontan's colony, Sultanate of Asena. Then, the cunning diplomacy of Fontan succesfully turned Sirion's former allies into enemy: Meristenzio and his brothers in the Army of Sirion found themselves surrounded and forced to fight on all fronts against an overwhelming number of enemies.
Time passed and Meristenzio continued his tireless work as Marshal, repelling enemies from Sirion mainland but watching many regions fall into Fontanese hands. His leadership become soon renowned between friends and foes, his position respected and his army feared. After 9 months as marshal, the Prime Minister Handow Meadowcrest decided to appoint Meristenzio as General of Sirion. Meristenzio added the purple orb of Sirion in his insigna, placed onto the war banner of the Army of Sirion.
General and Marshal Meristenzio is still fighting against Fontan, tirelessly leading his men battle after battle in hope that this neverending war will one day see its end.

After Generalship

After 5 months spent as General of Sirion and more or less 1 year as Marshal of the Armies of Sirion, where under him the soldiers of the elven realm faced unbelievable odds coming out as winners, Meristenzio withdrew from the miltiary career. Many reasons were behind this decision, but mainly the fact that he had centralized the leadership too much, meaning that every time he was unavailable for any reason, the disorganization would quickly took over the armies of Sirion and put their territories in danger. On the long run this proved to be too much for his nerves, since the amount of work needed to coordinate such a huge realm as Sirion almost single-handedly was a heavy burden to bear. He left the Generalship to Ryu Hinamoto, close friend and highly skilled marshal of the Red Dragons, one of the most succesfull armies of Sirion. The Marshalship of the Army of Sirion went to Salma Aryatmo, Dame of Lissambar and first Dame of Meristenzio since long time. He retired in the woods of Lissambar to take care of a region he neglected too much, but seldomly appears again on the battlefield. Rumors say he is planning to meddle into Sirion's politics, but whether the experience maturated during his Generalship will prove to be enough to survive political schemes, remains to be seen.

Prime Minister of Sirion

The war between Sirion, Fontan and its allies raged on and not much changed after the retirement of Meristenzio. Slowly, Sirion was gaining ground but it was a very precarious situation. In time, some leadership problems stroke Sirion. Ryu Hinamoto stepped down as General and Marshal of the Red Dragons too, and there was a power hole which was filled by the young and promising Atanamir of Umbar who however adopted a rather offensive stance that proved to be unsuccesfull. After a campaign in SoA territories, combined armies of Fontan and Westmoor broke through Trinbar and tore down the walls. Never the enemies of Sirion went so near to the heart of the realm but, luckily, they were repelled and Trinbar restored. In this confused moment Atanamir, General and Marshal of the Army of Sirion stepped down and Romul Galmel, who lost the Prime Minister elections to Absalom Azimuth became the General. Sirion slowly came out of the crysis just to end up in the usual stalemate situation of unconcluding battles on the Tabost/Dale/Obando/Caqueta line. The military crysis along with the somewhat weak Prime Ministry of Absalom, who showed to be skilled and reasonable but not very present or charismatic, put Sirion's leadership in a bad light. It was in that moment that Meristenzio, tired from his powerlessness in front of the events, decided to run for the Prime Minister position. The first election where he ran (Feb 2010) saw Absalom reconfirmed for a handful of votes but he did not run in the next one (March 2010), yielding an easy victory to Meristenzio. Meristenzio Peristaltico is now the Prime Minister of Sirion and he is working both on internal and external political issues, dreaming to bring an end to the Sirion/Fontan war under his Ministry.
