Dwilight/History/Age of Colonization
These are the summaries of significant events during the Age of Colonization.
Founding
Four realms were founded in summer of what had since been known as year one. From north to south, these realms were Springdale(monarchy), Morek(theocracy), Pian en Luries(monarchy), and Madina(republic).
Springdale Rebellion
After expanding to gain the duchy of Nifelhold, the King became known for his oppressive ways. The more powerful nobles listed a series of grievances in hopes he would change. However, he only became more oppressive. This resulted in several groups forming to oppose his reign and plot for his overthrow. Eventually, they came together under a noble known as Neel Arya. After some convincing, Neel eventually accepted and lead a swift rebellion and became the new King of Springdale
Everguard Threatens War
Everguard claimed a large portion of the northwestern half of Dwilight, including Eidulb. Caerwyn was the first realm threatened with war for taking the city and they eventually moved south to Golden Farrow. Next, Everguard threatened war with Astrum, but no war appeared and it appeared Everguard dropped their claim to the city and many other regions.
Port Raviel War
After an attack from Shadovar on Port Raviel, Melodia, Madina, and Caerwyn promptly declared war with the aggressor realm. Soon thereafter, while alleged peace negotiations were underway, Melodia underwent an untimely rebellion. Although the tyrannical monarch Albert de Blanc was deposed and the realm reformed into a republic, the sudden and complete exchange of power left many regions in poor shape, easily allowing monsters to quickly devour those few that remained.
Pian en Luries Infighting
Duchess Minerva of Askileon was beginning to be disliked by her duchy and was slowly losing power with lords switching allegiance to Giask. A small cause to this was the fact that she couldn't offer an army to protect her duchy. Eventually, she was banned from the kingdom on request of Queen Alanna Anaris to the Royal Arbitrator on grounds that she was endangering the realm and Askileon, the capital, and could not do her duty as duchess.
Soon after Kaennji Shenron, the first king of Pian en Luries, seceded Poryatown to form Verus Luria. He claimed Queen Alanna had grown too powerful and was a tyrant. It is rumored by those within Verus Luria that Duke and Grand Imperator Diodorus Exiled convinced him that he would join if Kaennji led the secession as rightful claims. Few of Pian en Luries believed the excuses though. A civil war, the second war of Dwilight, followed soon after.
After the war, there was a rebellion called by Mathias which forced Pian en Luries to withdraw their troops to the capital. It is claimed that this set their expansion back drastically.
Lurian Civil War
The war was longer than anyone expected with Verus Luria surviving for quite some time. The King and Duke Kaennji Shenron grew disillusioned with international politics and stepped down to form a religion, which soon collapsed. Former Countess Katayanna Ogren became the duchess while Reynard became the king. While fighting Pian en Luries in a series of skirmishes, they talked with their neighbors to move to a location further away from Pian en Luries. Eventually they decided to escape to Shadovar. Breaking through Poryatu in a final battle they began their migration.
D'Hara vs Shadovar
Former nobles of the fallen Verus Luria moved to Shadovar, intending to create the colony of Dragon Shire. Controversy eventually broke out between the native Shadovarians and their guests, resulting in a rebellion led by Mathias. A duke and a judge of the new government did not submit to the new order of things, leading to Port Raviel seceding to form D'Hara. A short civil war existed during which Shadovar fell to D'Hara, ending the war.
The Springdale Secessions
a.k.a. The War of Secession/Independence After a long struggle in the Empire of Springdale, the Duke of Muspelheim, Cato De La Fere, seceded the duchy and formed the theocratic realm of Virovene dedicated to the Blood Stars, crowning himself Kaiser. Springdale saw this secession in their own borders as an act of open rebellion, and quickly declared war on the fledgling realm. However, Springdale did not count upon the support of the other realms dedicated to the Blood Stars: Morek and Astrum. Morek promised military support to defend the faith, whilst Astrum still worked for a peaceful solution.
The war become known as the War of Secession among the people of Springdale, whilst the peoples of Virovene and Morek referred to it as the War of Independence. The War of Secession soon became the dominant name.
Soon after the war began Duke Edward Raiva seceded the Duchy of Aegir from Springdale to form the tyranny of the Raivan Empire, with the intent to remain neutral to the Springdale/Virovene conflict. Soon the region of White Plains switched allegiance to Morek, cutting the capital of Springdale off from the rest of the realm. Eventually the Duchy of Springdale itself left the Empire of Springdale, joining the realm of Morek. This made Morek the largest realm on the continent with 19 regions and 80 nobles. Springdale was left with only one one region: it's capital of Nifelhold.
Bloodstars' Blood Spilt by Brethren
Due to Raivan Empire's agreement to build temples as part of their neutrality, many lords were forced to join the Bloodstars. Imperial Chancellor Edward also sought expansion and quickly took Freke. This caused outrage by Morek as they had claimed the land. Diplomacy grew tense between the newest superpower and the small Raivan Empire and Ordermarshal Medugnatos Stormcrow and High Inquisitor Anabellium 'Runner' West of Morek put claims upon Aegir and Aegir's Deep. After several skirmishes in Aegir's Deep and military occupation of the region, the Raivan Empire gave in and agreed to give Freke to the papal state that was to be founded upon Moses' Peninsula.
First Madinan Tournament
In late January 2009, Sir Sage Meadowcrest, Duke of Madina, Marshal of the Madina Harbor City Guard, announced a swordfighting tournament to be held in Madina. There was a charge of 15 gold for every participant. The winner was rewarded with 500 gold. There was an reward of 200 gold for second place. The tournament was in honor of both islands finally having been occupied by Madina.
However, the tournament, while announced 7 days in advance, was too far away for the northern Dwilight realms to join. One account recorded 8 days of travel from Springdale Duchy.
The tournament completed with Eczka Czek, noble of Madina, winning. Second place went to Baron Sorbad D'Saferate of Laraibina.
Victory For Virovene and the End of an Empire
The War of Secession ended after a long siege by Virovene of Springdale's capital fortress of Nifelhold. The stronghold held out for many months and took a tremendous effort on behalf of Virovene to control the people. Despite Virovene's military superiority, it took many attempts to gain control. The taking of Springdale's final region meant that, after its long history, the first great realm on Dwilight has been lost.
The Formation of a Holy State
After much planning from the followers of Sanguis Astroism, a new theocracy has been formed upon the Mimer peninsular, known as Corsanctum. It was a long held plan of the Holy Prophet and founder of the faith, Mathurin Hossenfeffer, to create this new realm as a lynchpin and centre for the whole faith. Sanguis Astroism is one of the largest religions on the continent, and also has the most theocracies dedicated to its worship. It is hoped to become a centre for worship to the Bloodstars, and to be neutral ground for the other theocracies to work out their differences on neutral ground.
Dragon Rebellion of D'Hara
The rhetoric of this rebellion was the result of a division created in the D’Haran nobility. For several reasons unmentioned here, it was decided by the Dragon Queen Katayanna to abdicate from the throne and lead a colony effort to the mainland past Paisly. At the same time a growing lack of confidence in the sanity of the Dragon Queen, and severe mistrust in her behaviour, led to opposition among the nobles who would remain in D’Hara. After a breakdown in meaningful communication, General Cenarious maneuvered a group of disillusioned nobles into a rebellion to overthrow the Queen. The rebels stated that because the Queen was stealing gold from the realm to found the colony, enough to destroy parent realm of D'Hara, and because of the Queen's recent behaviour against a Duke of renown, they were no longer able to accept her rule. The colonists were not involved in the rebellion and were supported even after the Dragon Queen was overthrown and banned. King Cenarious took the throne of D’Hara and began ordering realm-wide repairs.
