Geographical and cultural information

The hot trade winds of the inland sea that blow south find their way to Laraibina, breaking over the cliffs and making an unpleasant and dry land even less hospitable. Small shrubs, few trees, and a variety of arid gorges and wind-swept hills mark the northernmost region of this isle.

A few roads come from Panafau and Panabuk to the north -- but they are rarely tread and are rough hewn, unfit for anything but the most basic of Caravans and troops. It is no surprise then that the majority of the small villages here lie sheltered amongst the coves and natural harbours that are strewn along the Coast.

The largest of these is the town of Larai -- carved into the cliffs and hillsides above a large natural cove with a cave used as a fishing port. The town is nestle between two large hills in a bowl -- the northern most of these hosts a large bonfire used as a beacon to warn ships away from the rocky shoals below. The southern hill arcs down south-west, forming a natural barrier between the hostile lands and the small community. The Baron's manor rests atop this hill -- ruins of basic fortifications dot the hill's sweeping side for the entire length, a testament to the many impromptu palisades that have defended and protected the people of Larai.

Many of the people here are fishmongers though there are a few farms located at natural springs that dot the landscape. There are also those who have travelled to the north to avoid the more heavily patrolled south. The towns and villages are favoured by those who are hardy and strong -- the sea is an unforgiving mother, and the dry semi-desert to the South and West claims the unprepared easily. Thus ruffians and others frequent the villages and ports, however they have found livings as Privateers, scouring the Northern tip of Madina ensuring the soveriegnty of the South Sea remains in Madinan hands.

As such the economy of Laraibina is based mostly off of the Sea -- from fish for food and oils to the taxes taken from successful privateering endeavours along the coast. There is some pottery to be found, but mostly the struggling farms supply the only goods taken from the land. Almost all of these goods are sent via ship from Larai to Madina herself as trade goods to support the coastal region.
