The Sarwell Family traces its roots to the woodland region of Braga on the East Continent. Most of the family remained on the continent, but one member ultimately left for the wild lands of Dwilight, making his home in the north Maroccidens.

Members of the family

Rosnan

Rosnan Sarwell was the first of his generation in the family to set out to make a name for himself. He was born and raised in the family home of Braga, then a part of the destroyed democracy of Fontan. As Rosnan's luck would have it, he left his home with his first unit of soldiers shortly before his homeland was taken over by the armies of Westmoor, Sirion, and Caligus. On his way to Krimml, the capital of the realm, he was ambushed by the enemy troops and sent to prison in the city of Westmoor. Upon his release, Rosnan, infuriated and confused by the war now raging around him, returned to Krimml, where he fought tirelessly to defend his realm's last stronghold for nearly two months. When foreign troops finally overwhelmed the defenders and occupied the city, Rosnan fled to the coast and boarded a ship bound for Enweil in Beluaterra.

Once again, Rosnan arrived with phenomenally bad timing, just days before the end of the fifth invasion by the daimons. At the end of the invasion, much of the land in his new home fell to darkness, the land was blighted, and monsters roamed the realm freely. His new army marched ineffectually around its land, attempting in vain to stop the monsters and rogues and restore the realm to its former glory. In the meanwhile, Rosnan was elected as baron of Pahk. Despite his improved rank, however, Rosnan struggled to fund his military career, let alone fix the damage done to the realm. He decided that he needed another way to earn money.

Rosnan found that one successful robbery from the rogues in the countryside could be more profitable than a week's taxes in Pahk, and turned to the life of an infiltrator to find success. He was captured twice by the rogues, but fortunately managed to stay safe from harm. Eventually all the rogue regions of former Enweil were recaptured, so Rosnan took up the dagger to earn gold, assaulting various figures for the bounty on their heads. This choice of work would turn out to be his downfall, however, when he decided to try an assault on a council member from one of Enweil's allies. He traveled to the realm's capital and tracked down his target, but failed his attack and was seriously wounded. When word reached Enweil, the realm's judge slapped a fine for 200 gold on the infiltrator. Rosnan was unable to pay the fine, and knew that it was unlikely he ever could at the rate he was earning money. Furthermore, he had made himself a pariah both at home and abroad, so he decided to leave his old life behind once again and departed for the Far East.

For the third time in his relatively brief career Rosnan showed up in the wrong place at the wrong time. The realm of Ohnar West where he arrived soon entered into war with Arcaea, Coralynth, and Sorraine, and Rosnan was once more forced into battle.

Alna

Alna is a member of the Maroccidental branch of the family and the cousin of Rosnan. She began her career as a knight of Larur in the republic of Terran. Soon she joined her compatriots in the war against Aurvandil, though she was oblivious to the full nature of the war - initially it was a matter of "us and them", and as far as Alna was concerned a distant and low-priority conflict. Her career took off when she was elected Senator of Gretchew, a position she would hold as long as she lived in Terran. Unlike her cash-strapped relative, she amassed a small fortune selling surplus grain from the fertile rural region, then regarded as the breadbasket of Terran. But all was not well; behind Alna's back the army of Aurvandil pushed successfully northward into the heart of Terran, and the corrupt and ineffectual leaders of the realm were doing nothing to stop them.

Reports of the enemy sacking her precious region were the final straw; she ran off to join the newly-seceded realm of Phantaria, where peace with Aurvandil was made a priority. Several days later, she became the new realm's first Commandant at Arms. She oversaw the first campaign against the remnant of Terran, with the intent of reunifying the realm. This attempt hit a standstill when Terran's leader, Hireshmont II Vellos, made it clear that he intended to transform the tiny realm, then reduced to a single city, into a theocracy of Sanguis Astroism. This prompted the Church to announce a controversial crusade to defend the new theocracy. The combined might of all the theocratic realms was too large for Phantaria to disobey, and the Grand Prince of Phantaria, Kale Perth, was coerced into a highly-concessive peace agreement with the old realm.

Phantaria's, and Alna's, hopes of expanding the realm were given new life when Niselur split from the Church and caused another war, in which Phantaria allied with that realm, Asylon, and the Farronite Republic against the hardline theocracies, including Terran. The first Phantarian attack was, despite the careful planning of Alna and the marshal of the army, a loss, but Alna remained confident as she returned to the front, now again optimistic about the future of the war.

Julian

Julian is the youngest Sarwell of his generation who is currently active in his career, in Strombran on Atamara. He is inexperienced but quite eager; he once traveled up to rendezvous with the Golden Talons of Strombran to fight in the north despite not even being assigned to the army yet. Julian is optimistic about his future, though only time will tell if his feeling is justified.

Entam

Entam was a commoner in Nivemus, believed to be the illegitimate son of one of the eastern Sarwells. He was an aspiring social climber despite his unfortunate circumstances, and took up the sword against the local monsters to find fame and fortune. He became, for an adventurer, relatively wealthy and successful, though the only unique treasure he ever obtained was soon lost to the undead hordes. After being imprisoned when he left his homeland, Entam ultimately met his end at the clammy hands of an undead champion.
