Octavius Family
House Octavius
Originally established on Atamara, the Octavius family moved to the Colonies after a run of bad luck in Atamara. Later, some members of the family set out for the new lands of Dwilight in hope of a brighter future. The family members are spread out over many continents. Often the only thing members of the family have in common is their surname.
After years as a minor House, the Octavius family is now famed and renowned as a family of royal blood across all continents. Counting a Prince-Bishop and lords and Prime Ministers beyond reckoning amongst its scions, no one can dispute the royal lineage of this mighty and proud House.
The Sartanian Faith
Long in the past, the scions of House Octavius worshipped an obscure, pagan god named the Allfather. This changed when Selene journeyed to the Far East following the death of her sister and ended up converting to the Church of Sartan, and even rising to become its High Priest.
In time, her faith spread throughout the family and now the entire family is bound up with the Church, being its staunch defenders and devout servants of Sartan.
Family Members
The Two Brothers
Once the fortunes of the family were down to the two brothers Antonine and Asriel. Sons of Willhelm Octavius, who moved to the Colonies and established his home there, they both grew up to become great men in their own right. Between them they have brought fortune to the family as well as fame and glory. Asriel is the oldest but left the Colonies for Dwilight which made way for Antonine to inherit leadership of the family.
Count Antonine Willhelm Octavius (retired) - After a long and adventurous life, having led armies in three continents, ruled regions in two and having been Prime Minister of Oritolon, he married Kaylan McDowell and retired.
Sir Asriel Constantine Octavius (retired) - He served in many realms and led a varied, exciting life during his twenty one years as a knight. Ultimately he retired at the age of thrity-three to raise his illegitimate son to be his heir.
The Sartanian Branch
Priestess Selene Amelie Octavius - The sister of Emma, she had just arrived in the Far East when news of her sister's death reached her. She joined the realm of Sartan on a whim but since arriving she has found the faith of Sartan and indeed, it has been revealed to her that she is a tool of Sartan upon this world. Her sister had written to her many times of what had been occurring in Arcaea. This knowledge proved itself useful to Selene in her new realm.
After being wounded in the defence of Niel she experienced a vision in which Sartan Himself appeared to her and charged her to try and save his realm and people. After this she vowed to become a priest of Sartan as soon as she was able. Having done this she travelled on with her people in exile, through many realms, before becoming Prince-Bishop of the short lived realm of NeoSartania, as well as High Priest of Sartan, and surviving to become Prime Minister of Ohnar West and laying the groundwork for the mass secessions which saw that realm divided and the establishment of Sorraine - a Sartanian Kingdom - as well as building alliances with the rulers of Arcaea which saw the final defeat of her old enemies in Arcachon and the Dark Isle become a second Sartanian realm - Coralynth.
In her time in the Far East she also oversaw the reorganisation of the Church of Sartan and its spread throughout the north of the continent and laying the foundations for what seems to be the inevitable adoption of the Church as the state religion of the Arcaean Empire.
However, after many years leading the Church, discontent amongst some quarters with her leadership grew and she decided to step down as High Priest. From there she travelled to first Atamara and then Beluaterra as a missionary of the Church of Sartan. In Beluaterra she found her way eventually to Ar Agyr where she and her cousin Immanuel successfully established the Beluaterran Church of Sartan whose missionary work she continues to this very day.
Arriving in Beluaterra just in time for the Fourth Invasion, Immanuel fought through its many campaigns and then, picking his way through the wreckage after it ended, travelling through several realms and holding several positions before finally arriving in Thalmarkin where he became a count and a general for a time.
He fought for Thalmarkin through the storm of the Fifth Invasion before settling down to a semi-retirement as one of the wealthiest men in the realm before his cousin Selene arrived and brought the flame of Sartan into his life.
Immanuel aided Selene in the establishment of the Church of Sartan before travelling south over the River Thal to become one of the founders of Ar Agyr where he became a lord and even served twice as general before resigning the generalship in disgust at the way in which the King gave orders and planned military campaigns without even giving him advanced warning.
This is where he can be found now - spending time building up the most disciplined cavalry unit in the north, training at the academy and brooding over past insults and slights.
Martin started his career in the Far East as a knight and zealous warrior of Sartan. However, in time, he was drawn to the priesthood and, after his rashness saw him driven into exile, he settled in Arcaea and continued the work of his cousin Selene, rising to high office in the Church himself, spreading the faith of Sartanism throughout Arcaea, making himself useful to the Emperor and continuing his project of bringing the holy city of Niel back into the fold of the Church.
Lately he was appointed Viscount of Mraulaxon, a stepping stone on the path towards his ambition of becoming Margrave of Niel.
In Memoriam
Dame Emma Octavius (deceased) - Emma was from the Atamaran branch of the family. Having seen the disaster that the Ash Sea Islands had suffered she gathered a band of soldiers and became a troop leader in ASI. She rejected Magna Serpaensism and believed that it was this faith that led ASI into disaster in the first place. This put her at odds with many of her realm mates. It was this discontent at the soulless and religiously dominated nature of the realm that led her to emigrate to Arcaea in the Far East.
She served as a knight of Treror, but when its count turned traitor and joined Ethiala, Emma was forced to accompany him. She immediately requested to rejoin Arcaea and set out for the Ethialan capital of Topenah to duel her ex-liege, Count Deathwyrm, to the death. After he was imprisoned by the Ethialans, she returned to Arcaea to wait until Treror was reclaimed for its rightful rulers. Shortly after the fall of Topenah, Deathwyrm returned to Arcaea. Emma dueled him and died in the process. Her body was returned to ASI for burial.
Amelia Octavius (bastard, retired) - Amelia was a professional adventurer before she retired after a few days to become a maid in one of the family households. She did this when she realised that she was hopeless at adventuring.
