From BattleMaster Wiki
Morekian culture at the height of its power in YD 22, at the eve of the Niselurian rebellion, which would lead to the devastating First Continental War.

The Morekians have a violent history, seeing many realms:

Donghaiwei was a gathering place for Easterners who had been drawn to the place by visions of three stars. It was here that they discovered that the Stars were real and one of them, Mathurin Hossenfeffer explained the meaning of the Stars, after which he was proclaimed a prophet. The Easterners were, however, severely prosecuted by the local Dongese, forcing the Easterners to adapt. It was Deverka Cryfdwr who managed to defeat a large coalition of the Dongese. His companions wanted to crown him King for his miraculous victory, but Deverka refused, because he believed this would lead to corruption. Instead he asked Mathurin Hossenfeffer to organize an order of the most devout Astroists and accepted the assignment to lead this order as its Grand Master. This order was named The Order of Morek. Although the inhabitantant of the new realm were officially called Morekians, the Dongese formed a majority in the new realm, causing both terms to be used by foreigners. However, Morekian is the more correct term.

Morek was officially at peace with Springdale and focussed on expanding west, but the rebellion of the Virovene Astroists brought the two at war, resulting in the destruction of Springdale. Morekians then became the masters of the north and even gained the upper hand in the Occidens when Astrum conquered Caerwyn. However, Sanguis Astroism proved to be a double edged sword: zealous worshippers were willing to suffer much hardship to spread their faith, but those who were dissatisfied with either their faith or their realm would also feel the need to rebel against the other.

The Astromancy War can be seen as a first Astroist civil war. In this war Dalians and native Fellish wanted to end the power of the church, but seem to actually be united in their goal to end the dominance of the Morekians. Likewise, the First Continental War would see anti-theocratic Astroist powers unite to bring down the power of the Morekian church. This war and the two succeeding Continental Wars would prove to be so destructive that theocracies were either destroyed or reformed into kingdoms and republics.

Dongese

The Dongese were the first to be subjugated by the Order of Morek. In their eyes this means that they are chosen among the Dwili to become the first civilized tribe on the continent. They pride themselves on this 'election'. So when the Dalians were defeated, they became quite angry when the Order of Morek wanted to give the Dalians equal treatment. The Order of Xinhai became popular among them, which confirmed the elected status of the Dongese. The Xinhai declared independence and later even destroyed the Order of Morek, after which Xinhai declared itself to be the Morek Empire.

For many years the Morek Empire reigned supreme on High Toprak, but the Continental Wars brought about its destruction by Luria Nova. During the Invasion War, the people of Donghaiwei rebelled, formed Helyg Derwyddon and sided with Luria Nova. Together they forced the Morek Empire to its knees and to allow the independence of Antiqualia and Arnor. Arnor was situated in Northnastrond and was home to Nifelians, who had integrated into the Morekian culture of the Morek Empire. When the Morek Empire failed to recolonize Golden Farrow, they also lost control of the Avernus on Virovene.

Avenorian

During the Gold Sea Conflict the Dongese again entered into conflict with Luria Nova. Due to the destruction, the Morek Empire and Helyg Derwyddon decided to merge with Arnor. After the war, Arnor en Avernus migrated to Darfix to form Avenor, which outlasted all other Morekian realms. It should be noted that this realm has a very different culture from the original Dongese in Xinhai due to the heavy influx of Nifelians and Virovenese.

Astrumese

Astrum can be considered the most successfull realm of the 1st decade, being the only one to survive into the 7th decade and being a major political factor for most of its existence. It was a Morekian colony on Libidizedd Isle, where they were welcomed by the Eddo as protectors against the Seax. With the help of Averoth it gained the upper hand against Everguard and became the main force on the Upper Occidens, assimilating the local Seax.

When Averoth turned against Astrum together with Caerwyn, Astrum was victorious and even managed to expand to Golden Farrow. They granted this area to Allison Kabrinski. She had attempted to secede Entai on Virovene from the Morek Empire, but rejoined the empire when she realized she was needed by the Stars. Unfortunately she was forced to relinquish Kabrinskia, after which the Farronite Republic was organized around Golden Farrow. During the Great Monster Invasion, the Farronite Republic was overrun and its Caerwynians inhabitants found refuge in Astrum.

The Astrumese merged with Corsanctum, which ruled Astrumese politics after the destruction of Libidizedd Isle by Tol Goldora. After another war against the combined forces of Luria Nova and Tol Goldora, Astrum was humiliated and many of its nobles left for Westgard. This resulted in a popular uprising: the Wiccan revolt. Astrum was renamed to Wicrose, but this realm was destroyed by Luria Nova after a hunting incident. Thus ended the last Astrumese realm, but it should be noted that the culture lives on in Westgard and also on the Mimer Peninsula.

Averothian

Averoth was a Morekian colony on the Stronghold Isle. It was established to replace Everguard and as such saw much Seax influence. It is believed that this influence gained the upper hand, after which Averoth joined forced against their religious brethren in Astrum. This resulted in their destruction and they were assimilated into Astrum.

Niselurian

Many had dreamed to colonize Darfix. In the end it were the Astrumese who succeeded. The new colony was named Niselur and saw the enthousiastic support of many local natives. However, it succumbed to monsters, forcing the Niselurians to find refuge in Astrum, where they became know as Iashalurians.

Eventually they managed to regain Darfix, but when monarchists overthrew the theocrats, the Astroists would soon see their first destructive war. Because of this, the Great Monster Invasion was seen as punisment for their betrayal. Niselur made a heroic last stance in Gaston and it is generally believed Gaston is the resting place of the last Niselurians - although the Forguthrians and the woodsmen of the Darfese Forest claim to be a remnant.

Corsanctumese

Corsanctum was established as the Holy See for Sanguis Astroism and was a combined effort of Astrum and the Dalian Raivan Empire. As such Corsanctum became a culturally neutral region with both Morekian and Dalian influences. Corsanctum sought to unseccessfully replace D'Hara with a theocratic Quadrivium. The colony of Aurora in Unterwood was successfull, but the Aurorans never succeeded to truely subdue the local Unter. During the Astromancy War, Aurora saw itself forced to rejoin Corsanctum. Likewise Corsanctum saw itself forced to join Astrum during the Invasion War.

Rakjak

The Rakjak live on the southern part of the Great Plain of Toprak. They helped subdue the Flow Peninsula and ruled Aquilegia. When Aquilegia fell due to monarchists, the Rakjak would return to establish Swordfell. This realm would sway away from the Morekian sphere of influence and form a separate culture: the Fellish.
