Everhard is the only child of Reynold the Boar and his second wife Liutgard. Although his half brothers treated him as one of their own, his ties were especially close to his cousin Wilbrand. His cousin even appointed Everhard as heir, which resulted in Everhard obtaining the Amedes Estate in An Najaf after the early death of Wilbrand in the Lion's War.

Due to the devastation the war caused to An Najaf, Everhard decided to bring his cousin's family to Oporto, where he was given the Cedargrove Residence by the priestess Luna Tempest. However, because of the ferocity of the war Shadowdale would loose many of its nobles (only 6 of the pre-war nobles would make it through the war), which gave Everhard plenty of career opportunities. Soon Commonyr was without lord and it was given to Everhard at his request.

Everhard immediately ordered the construction of a keep, which he named the Brennaborg. The keep would serve as a defensive structure, but was especially known by smuggler's in the region as a safe place. In fact it was a public secret that the Earl profited from the smuggling between Krimml and Oligarch. However, it were especially his war crimes which earned him the nickname 'the Black'. Although looting was permissable within Shadowdale's laws, Everhard actually butchered people, mainly in the region of Sordidus. Of particular notoriety is the great raid, where three Shadowdalian nobles went on a rampage at the same time: Joost de Vries around Nascot, Sonder Komurov around Mashhad and Everhard around Sordidus. However, eventually Perdanese diplomacy resulted in Shadow Queen Etain Dubhaine putting an end to these practices.

Despite these questionable aspects, Everhard was also known for coming up with creative ideas to break the Caligan superiority. This earned him an appointment of Major, which was an office within the Shadowdale military structure just below Vice-Marshal. As such Everhard spent much time away behind enemy lines, providing the Grey Exarch William Armsworth with crucial information. Of particular interest is the Battle in Supra, where Everhard's unit took the brunt of the hostile missiles – which therefore were not aimed at Shadowdale's ally Perleone. This earned him the Porcupine Award, which name would be proudly worn by his subsequent units.

After the loss of Murdo Hormondson, Everhard was elected as Cauldron Master and concocted a plan to save Perleone from starvation. While the war raged on, the relatively unknown, but highly trusted Earl Colin Ceallaigh went in secret across the sea to deliver grain. Due to his proactive leadership, Everhard was elevated to Marshal and became responsible for leading Shadowdale's military after the loss of Dulbin due to the betrayal Brimzin Gear.

Despite the chaos of war, Everhard ensured his claim on Commonyr would be secured. He paid for the retrieval of the Dark Ring of Malfurion and trained knights to bolster his authority: Valeria Kvorth, Bahram Sabraz and Genevieve Hollow.

During the ceasefire with Caligus, Everhard lead an expedition north to secure the excellent recruitment centers in the abandoned fortress of Sir Temple: the Templar Cavalry (W95 A85 T60) and the Templar Crossbowmen (W95 A90 T100). He was then granted Tallbar, which served as a bridgehead to the expedition.
