Toupellon

Toupellon was founded on the true, and basic principles of Honor and Glory.

Its regions stretch from the northern plains, to the cradle of mountains in the southern mainland; with waves from the western sea crashing upon its shores.

Toupellon is the representation of strength in the Far East, leaving behind all weakness. Comprised of nobles from nearly all four corners of the islands, and a King of patience, verity and justice.

The land is a Monarchy, strong with its leadership, and assorted with various beliefs. Though fresh to the ensemble of realms and states, it has yet to prove its power before the eyes of the world.

The Creation Of Toupellon

Founding Roots

The realm was conceived as an idea fostered in days long past, after the great Highland Wars. Duke Anatole, of Colasan, defense minister of the Lasanar Republic, proposed an idea with Prime Minister Milan von Krondor to rectify outlying issues concerning the realm's growth (along with dissent over the transition of a monarchy rule, to that of a republic.) It was agreed the duchy of Colasan, and the duchy of Ossaet, under Duke Draban, would secede from Lasanar to form Toupellon; a vassal monarchy realm. Unfortunately, problems arose, such as Colasan being the capitol, and the overwhelming support for the new realm (and disfavor for the current); leading to its inevitable postponement. Soon after, Duke Anatole set sail on a prolonged personal voyage, leading to the complete abandonment of the project. It was until the duke returned, that the contrivance was resumed.

The Great Secession

Written by Lady Taylin Indirik

Toupellon was officially formed by the secession of the duchy of Colasan from the kingdom of Cathay. The duchy of Ozrat immediately left Ohnar West to join the new realm, followed quickly by the Ohnarian duchy of Akanos. Within a day, the duchies of Anacan and Taop had left Cathay to join the new realm, bringing Toupellon to a total of five duchies and fifteen regions. Duke Claude Finsternis of Ozrat, unhappy with the way things had been proceeding in Ohnar West, immediately revealed to the nobles of Ohnar West that he had been working with Duke Anatole on plans for the formation of the new realm. Duke Claude sent a message to Ohnar West detailing his reasons for leaving Ohnar West, and then took his duchy to the Toupellon. Duchess Taylin Indirik of Akanos, also unhappy with the recent trends in Ohnar West, did the same.

Things did not stop there, however. The dissatisfaction of the nobles of Cathay with their new King was apparently more widespread than first thought. In a surprise move, Duke James of Anacan and Duke Merlin of Taop also left Cathay to throw their lot in with Toupellon. These unexpected additions expanded the realm significantly farther south than planned. Stability has now become a primary concern, for subjugation of such a broad range of regions is not easily attained.

Dissolution

The end of Toupellon came when the realm was dissolved with the northern duchies leaving to form Sorraine and the southern duchies re-establishing the realm of Cathay. Thus, after a brief history, the realm of Toupellon came to an end.

Government

Monarchism

In accordance to the initial proposition by Duke Anatole in the times of Lasanar, Toupellon was founded on the stones of a Monarchy. The Ruler and founder, Anatole Brandon, declared himself prince of the sovereign state, with a Margrave as his general, Lord (Lady) High Justice as his judge, and Lord (Lady) High Treasurer as his banker. After seemingly minor debates with the nobles of Toupellon, Prince Anatole, with the agreement of two foreign monarchs, officially declared himself King of Toupellon; rendering the sovereign state into a kingdom in which all council positions are appointed through the divine leadership of the king.

Assemblies

It was decided that the creation of aggregations was necessary to the functionality of Toupellon. As such, the following were created:

The High Council- The king, all council members, and select nobles.

The Justice Corps- The king, council members, and one elect noble. Serves as counsel to the Lord (Lady) High Justice.

The Parliament of Lords- Aggregation of all land owners, and the king.

The Warmoot- Council of War, including sponsors, marshals and vice-marshals, and the king.

Record of Events

Genesis

First Monarch, King Anatole Brandon

King Anatole, the first king of Toupellon, orchestrated the secession of duchies in order to form the realm of Toupellon. With the initial secessions, many dukes and duchesses from outlying regions sought opportunity and relief in the new realm; following suit in seceding their duchies. In less than one week, Toupellon grew from three duchies, to six; with a grand total of eighteen regions. Consequently, the king had many duties to attend, including the appointments of the council, the separation of power, and the creation of aggregations. The position of Margrave initially went to Count Havelon Minex, though soon after, he resigned the position, conferring it to Lysander Goodfellow; a controversy amongst former nobles of Ohnar West. The seat of Lord High Justice was appointed to the duke of Ozrat, Claude Finsternis, and the seat of Lord High Treasurer to Count Sparticus Bathgate.

In response, several knights and lords expressed discontent, as many were dragged into Toupellon simply from the secession of their respective duchies. Countless slights were exchanged, and there were several who left the realm; abandoning their true oaths and duties. King Anatole, at this event in time, proved to the realm his temperance, mercy, and patience, by rendering an understanding with many of the nobles and providing solace to those who spoke against him. To further ease the worries of the nobles, alliances were signed with Arcaea and Greater Aenilia; alongside peace treaties with Arcachon, C'thonia, Kindara, and Ohnar West. This effectively isolated Cathay as the only immediate and potential threat to Toupellon, for rumors of a march on Anacan were widespread throughout the realm. Ultimately, Cathay (and C'thonia) were defeated by Kindaran forces, effectively leaving Toupellon without enemy.

As time passed, King Anatole became absent within the realm and soon abdication was forced upon him. Elections, offered to the lords exclusively, ensued.

Establishment

Second Monarch, King Claude Finsternis

Although several nobles declared their candidacy in the royal election, most of the public support was given to just two: Claude Finsternis, Toupellon's Lord High Justice, and Galiard Scarlett. Only nobles with lordships could vote towards a candidate, so most expected a close victory. Nevertheless, Claude won the election with a significant lead on votes, possibly because of the undivided support he received from Sartanian nobles.

For some time after the election, Toupellon enjoyed peace, and had time to stabilize its regions.

The First War

Military

Genesis

It was decided that the creation of two armies was a necessity for the outstretched 18 regions of Toupellon. The Vanguard of Toupellon was the precedent army, created to counter any Cathayan attack to the south, and the Rearguard of Toupellon, to defend and support the regions of the north.

The Vanguard of Toupellon (Active) - Sponsor Duke Excalibur, of Colasan. Marshal Garamonde Bendix. Vice-Marshal Tristan Trian.

The Rearguard of Toupellon (Active) - Sponsor King Claude, of Ozrat. Marshal Mathilda Penardin. Vice-Marshal Duke Caspius Arundel.

Establishment

A new army has not yet been required or created.

Religion

The two majority faiths within Toupellon are Adgharhinism and The Church of Sartan, with Magna Aenilia Ecclesia as a popular but minor faith. The two majority faiths are in complete disfavor with one another, and tensions between the two can be observed within the realm. Albeit, politically, all religions are of equal power, as there is no official state religion.

Law

Currently, no official document of law has been published, though through the monarchy, a code of honor is kept between the inferiors, and superiors.
