Domus is a small city located in the central mountainous region of the East Island. It is located south of Scio, the southern foothills of the Akesh Mountains. Travellers arriving at the city must approach one of the five Great Gates which offer the only means of passage through the mighty walls that guard the city. Built by craft now lost to the ages, the great walls make the small city the equal of the mightiest fortress.

Despite this, the city has often changed hands, and Domus has served as the capital of several realms thanks to its strategic location at a place where high hills, dark forests and open plains meet. Previously the Capital of Caligus, Domus was taken by Vix Tiramora and then seceded to serve as the capital of Highmarch.

Once through the Great Gates travellers find themselves in a cramped and bustling city. With the walls limiting the potential for expansion, Domus has a long tradition of building three or four storeys high, often on top of the foundations of previous buildings and with rooftops nearly touching those of their neighbours.

As a consequence, many streets stay in shadow all day long with only the occasional sliver to be seen between the rooftops crowding together above. What manufactory there is in the city is forced to compete for space with the city's inhabitants and taverns, and much of it is crowded into workshops taking up one or two floors in buildings which also house several families.

The city only opens up in a few locations, and foremost amongst these are the Great Market, where traders from north, south, east and west gather to buy and sell all manner of wares (or to meet for drinks in the Sedated Stallion) in a hustle and bustle that never truly stops, and the tournament ground which has been the site of many famous tourneys.

Another famous landmark of the city is the High University of Domus which was originally established by Alfhelm Sussex as a seat of learning to rival the Grey University of Karbala and the Tower of High Sorcery of Isadril. The small, but gradually, expanding university is split across multiple colleges scattered throughout the city where masters of various arcane topics live with their handpicked students. The respectable colleges focus mainly on the various aspects of sorcery and alchemy but scholars of almost every subject can be found somewhere in the city. In addition, all scholars at the High University benefit from access to the beautiful Sussexian Library and its collection of manuscripts which was established with Alfhelm Sussex's founding donation of his own personal collection.

The city was also the site of, amongst others, the "Battle to Free Domus".
