SanMuerte Fantom was serving the realm of Norland as an adventure fighting the undead and monsters that were running rampage there. He was in the region of Mansbridge, when he came upon a small old bent Sage in the deepest part of the woods.

They sat down and SanMuerte offered the old Sage some of his food and ale. After the Sage had eaten most of the food SanMuerte had carried they started on the ale. Pretty soon the Sage was feeling no pain from the large quantity of ale he was downing and he started telling SanMuerte tall tales of his travels and adventures.

The Sage asked if SanMuerte had a unique item, which at that point SanMuerte did not but SanMuerte told him about all the unique items he has had in the past.

The Sage stated, “Well I have skills to make one if you have the correct materials. May I look at your inventory of common items?”

“Of course”, stated SanMuerte.

After many minutes of going through the numerous items and a lot of “this will do”, “this is junk”, and “maybe I can use this”. The Sage took all the selected items and walk out into the woods.

So much time passed, that at first SanMuerte thought the old Sage had ripped him off but he let the time pass and eventually even fell asleep. But not for long. A loud crack startled him awake. SanMuerte was on his feet and had his sword drawn when the old Sage walked back into the camp.

“My friend, for your kindness to an old man, I present you this Armour: Breastplate of the Foolish. This will deflect any direct hit from any man made weapon. It will also minimize the effect of any unique item that is directed at your chest. It will buy you the time in battle that hopefully will allow you to make the choice that will bring you victory.”

“Forgive me for my vanity, I have always been foolish and not use my powers as best as I could. So I have named this armour after my foolishness but trust me this is one of my best and strongest works. So, you know now the name is for the make not the wearer of the armour.”

The old Sage handed SanMuerte the “Breastplate of the Foolish”. It was just about weightless and once he wore it as part of his battle attire, it seemed to have a slight vibration to it and move as one with his body.

Equipped with " Breastplate of the Foolish ", SanMuerte said his thanks and good-byes and was off again to chase down any undead or monster that would cross his path.

Far East

The Breastplate of the Foolish was found on the Far East in Ipsosez during the Great War.

Discovery

A young adventurer named Aeth Huntsmaster had fled Idapur after that city, Greater Aenilia's capital, was sacked by Imperial forces in the Great War. Making his way to Ipsosez, Aeth noticed the characteristic signs of monster infestation. Despite the lack of bounty, his concern for Aenilia led him through the bowels of the Stronghold of Ipsosez hunting monsters. Falling into a pit in the sewers on his way looking for a sixth group of monsters, he found himself confronted by an overly large spider. Cutting through the web, Aeth pressed the attack. With the spider nest crushed and Aeth covered in ichor, he found amongst the ruin the sum of 1 gold, 5 silver, and the long-lost Breastplate of the Foolish.

Dwilight

It turned up in the region of Rye of Springdale.

Discovery

A brave adventurer named Adest Rider was hunting monsters in the region, having much success and collecting much bounty. After searching a deep swamp for several hours, following trails and noises, he finally encountered several groups of monsters. Leading these was an alpha monster, a really big and ugly one, sharp of claws and long of teeth. The battle raged, and most were struck down, while a few managed to flee.

But not the biggest. He stood his ground, and was the last to fall. Following their tracks back, a large lair was found, heaped with treasure, and the corpses of their victims.

The treasures there worth a total of 1 gold, 2 silver, a princely sum. But more than that, there was also a glint among the rubbish in the corner. There, in tangle of bones and flesh, was a "Breastplate of the Foolish". Apparently not just one had been made. Half rotten with age and mire, were it cleaned up, it would provide some prestige to the wearer. (+1)

Noble Owners

It was sold to Emperor Neel Arya of Springdale and was part of some controversy over why the emperor would wear the breastplate of the foolish. It was later seen upon Duke Lucius Curs of Nifelhold.

Discovery

The mighty Clothar, who claims lineage to the Cuvelier Family, fought off the ugliest and smelliest Alpha monster seen in or around Vatrona in ages. After the enemy leader was dead, Clothar ritually cut open the Monster's belly in search of a longlost fair maiden. He did not find her, but he did find a breastplate, clearly worn by someone who was eaten by this Monsterman. There were even still some bones lingering around in the breastplate. After a quick wash in a pond, it was shiny as ever - although a little bruised.

This was the letter Chlothar sent to Cataryna, and what convince her to pay a high sum for the unique:

Most glorious Duchess, It is not the wearer who is the fool, but the spectator that is fooled by the presence of the armour! It is said that the armour is so shiny and impressive and noble-y that onlookers are easily persuaded. It is said that this armour makes the wearer more convincing to the onlooker. It is an armour only for the greatest.

You must understand that I already put in some great effort to repair the armour in expectation of someone to wear it. I offered it to the Lord of Vore but he chose to purchase another item of mine more befitting him (the Glowing Ring of Vore). Sadly I have not been able to repair his item enough before selling it. Yours, again, is in great shape though.

Because I put in some effort, I would appreciate a good price. It would however be incredibly rude of me - such a lowborn - to demand a price of one so glorious as you. Therefor I bid you to make the first offer, so as to avoid that I offend you when I tell my price. I very much appreciate my head.

Yours,

Chlothar
