This powerful weapon was given the Phoebe Anaris by Unknowable, leader of the daimons of Beluaterra. When he gave it to her, he tasked her with using it to obtain the blood of five humans. If she fulfilled this task, he would grant her the power she had asked for.
When, at length, she gathered the blood, Unknowable gave her another task—find Shadow, the daimon infiltrator—which quickly became impossible, as Shadow was executed just days later. Believing that he would reappear at the volcano, Phoebe started to make her way there, but was captured, and after several days in Unknowable's prison, was informed that she had failed.
