Talk:Community Portal
Community Manager Page
It needs more work, but the main concept is basically done. I'll probably make a couple new pages for a few things so it isn't so big. --Vita Family 18:44, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- What about the realm pages religion pages, newspapers, miscellaneous, ect..?--Athins 03:10, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, those are all part of the items currently being discussed. Feel free to post a list of links to pages, categories, etc, you think should be integrated somehow into the Community Portal. (They wouldn't be copied over or moved to the portal, just linked in a somehow orderly fashion, to better direct people to the existing resources that are available.) --Indirik (talk), Editor (talk) 03:36, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- I moved them to Miscellaneous. At some point, I intend to sort that page again and get it linked to. --Ethan Lee Vita (Talk), Editor (Talk), Community Manager (Talk) 19:14, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- I think the Realm, Religion, and Family pages should be on the main page atleast, maybe newspapers as well (though they seem to be kinda dead now except for a few). The rest are fine under miscellaneous. --Athins 21:38, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Whichever makes more sense. Realm pages IMO seem essential to the RP of the game, and religion and family pages can also be quite essential. --Athins 23:04, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Portal Overhaul
This page is currently being worked on as part of a project to overhaul the Community Portal. Anything you see on this page may or may not end up in the final version. If you would like to make any suggestions, feel free to leave them here on the talk page. No guarantees that we'll use any of them, but all feedback is appreciated.
I am going to try unprotecting this talk page. With the requirement to have e-mail confirmation before you can edit, I'm hoping that will be enough to protect us against spambots. --Indirik (talk), Editor (talk) 01:26, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Re: Feature Requests.
The Discussion List is a dark abyss full of power gamers, admin bashers and general malcontents. It should not be the first and only place for a feature request to be made. The wiki is much better equipped for engaging in civil and dignified discussions with others and unlike the discussion list, the wiki is a place where anyone can come and make a proposal with relative ease.
Fair enough, you have to sign up for both the wiki and the discussion list, but there is a vast difference between receiving a single confirmation e-mail and enduring a vast torrent of stuff from the BM circus all to make a single feature request. We should be entitled to make feature requests on the wiki as well as/instead of the discussion list.--Revan 22:41, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
- While I agree with the sentiment of the first sentence, the discussion list has the advantage of being more read by the community. I honestly don't mean to exclude people from the feature request process, but discussion needs to be done by a larger more representative portion of the community the request will affect. It helps if one can direct those with proposals to one area where it will be discussed instead of two areas with people that may not visit both. Feature requests were attempted on the wiki before and it turned into an ignored mess called the Wish List; the vast majority of those requests wouldn't make it past a community discussion. --Ethan Lee Vita (Talk), Editor and Community Manager 23:07, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- The Wish List was hardly an official feature request system. It was created by users and occasionally visited by Tom. The reason it is so massive, sprawling and inadequate is precisely because there was no real guidance on the processes necessary to make a relevant Feature Request. It's only a relatively recent development, in addition, that we have had visible Editors on the wiki and seen members of the community involved in the BM Development team.
- I'm not saying that proposals should not eventually go through the discussion list, but decent proposals could be hashed out/proposed on the wiki and then taken forward by, say, the Community Manager. I think it's very bad form that only Discussion List subscribers can make proposals as that means only a certain type of BattleMaster player will be making proposals. Why can't newer or less emotionally involved players be able to make feature requests as well, without having to jump in/subject themselves to the bear pit that is the Discussion list?--Revan 15:49, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- Personally, I don't have any problem with someone maintaining an unofficial Wish List page. You'll just have to understand that things on that list would most likely only ever be implemented if it was small, and some dev felt a personal desire to do so. It will also most likely not be checked by any dev on any kind of regular basis. --Indirik (talk), Editor (talk) 17:46, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, some of the most recent feature request suggestions have come from newish(compared to us two) players. I suppose if you see something in a feature request that just bears needing discussion in your opinion you can leave something on its talk page. However, there may have already been brought up in d-list and may have a stock reply. I certainly wouldn't reject a good point; I just don't want multiple discussion areas. Its better to simplify and keep it in one area(the largest one intended for that purpose). --Ethan Lee Vita (Talk), Editor and Community Manager 17:49, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
feature requests and Internet links
I've moved the Internet links section into the portal, it was way too obscure. And the feature requests section ought to point to the forum board now, shouldn't it? --Tom 12:07, 26 March 2011 (CET)
Suggestion
Remove the Frappr link from the BattleMaster on the Internet section (it seems to be dead) and add links to the BattleMaster community on Reddit and the BattleMaster facebook page -Revan (talk) 12:08, 30 July 2013 (CEST)
