Government Position
No matter the Government System, every realm in BattleMaster is ruled by a four-member government. These various positions and their responsibilities are described below.
Ruler
Holding the most important position in the realm, the ruler has great responsibility. Her main responsibility is diplomacy, dealing with the rulers of other realms. Depending on the type of government, she might have other responsibilities, such as appointing other positions.
General
The general is the authority for organising the troop leaders of their realm and giving military orders. These may vary from line settings for battle, to suggested units to recruit, to organising region militia.
As the highest authority for military matters in most realms, he is responsible for seeing that all troop leaders have correct settings, manage their units correctly and can seize the strategic initiative when needed. Usually, it is up to the general whether to loot an enemy region, however only the ruler and judge have the authority to enforce punishment for such infringements. Choosing to recruit a specific type of unit is one of a troop leader's inalienable rights. However, many generals offer suggestions on what are good units, and request a message if any troop leader has any inquiries.
Depending on the realm, many generals managing large numbers of troop leaders form battlegroups under the command of trusted lieutenants (not an official position), which then answer to him. This allows the general to concentrate on a larger scale and leave the micromanagement of forces to others.
Be aware that choosing what type of unit to recruit is one of a noble's inalienable rights in Battlemaster. Anyone who gives you orders about choosing what type of unit to recruit should be reported to the Titans or Magistrates.
Judge
The judge of a realm is responsible for the internal matters and discipline in the realm.
His responsibilities include:
- Holding court to increase the morale and loyalty of a region.
- Dealing with enemy prisoners.
- Fining and banning troublemakers.
- Writing the judge bulletin to set the internal laws for the realm.
Banker
The banker is the expert in financial matters, taking care of trade, banking and taxes.
