Taselak's secret weapon revealed?
28 February 2007 (On the road to Taselak) by Lord ENDperor
Recently, the heroic young Battlefield Engineer Lord ENDperor has unveiled his latest invention, the Pub-Mobile. It resembles a large wagon, measuring 15 cubits wide, 20 cubits long, and 10 cubits tall, and pulled by a team of 12 draught horses. But inside, it is a fully functional pub, complete with bar, tables, darts and an assortment of memorabilia, collected by Lord himself. When present in an encampment, it is the center of life for the army, allowing for a beer garden with seating for over 200. On the move, the access to the roof allows for a lookout post, while the interior is used as a war room, for discussing the tactics to be employed in the next battle. Lord himself described it, saying "Swhy go basch to Tashelak City to shelebrate our victory, swhen we could bring the party wisch us?"
Seggelin falls to Toren
28 February 2007 (On the road to Taselak) by Lynsey Habap
In another setback for freedom on the Island, Toren forces finished the execution of Taselakian government officials in Seggelin and declared the region as belonging once again own religious tyranny. Taselakians know that the temporary success of Toren arms is only due to the herculean efforts of the army of Ikalak, which boldly sacrificed itself to allow the Yaks of Toren to attempt to reclaim these lands. It is unclear how long Ikalak will put up with Toren incompetence, but it certainly bodes ill for lovers of freedom.
Ikalak defeated trying to cover for Toren
27 February 2007 (Moeth) by Lynsey Habap
In a series of open-field battles, forces from Taselak defeated a larger force from Ikalak. The Ikalakans had been moving to screen Toren forces engaged in a vicious takeover of Lesthem. The strategy did allow Toren to complete it's takeover, but since it also lead to the Ikalakan force getting spread out, it was fought in detail and eventually defeated. The series of battles took place over the weekend in Falens, Belus and Moeth. These battles ended up costing Ikalak the vast majority of its mobile army.

One can only be amazed at the sacrifices Ikalak makes for her weak sister of an ally, Toren. Ikalak has stuck firmly to its agreement on the control of regions and now has lost a grand army to allow Toren to take a region that it is quite likely to lose again shortly.

Beelzebub reports freezing temperatures in Hades
27 February 2007 (Moeth) by Lynsey Habap
In stunning news, Toren is reported to now have the strongest army on the South-East Island. Apparently, the strategy of hiding out in Toren Stronghold finally paid off. The coincidence of the icing-over of all nine rings of Hades was not lost on nobles from Taselak and Ikalak.
Further signs of Problems
15 February 2007 (Kail) by Lynsey Habap
Not, it seems, Toren tires of their far stronger ally, Ikalak. One leader complains:
How many times do they attack a month? Once? Twice?
- Karibash the Great[1]

Ikalak has kept steadfast to its agreement with Toren about which regions it would take, even to their own detriment. Now, the Toren complain that Ikalak isn't doing enough.

Triple victory in Belus!
15 February 2007 (Belus) by Sennianus the Mad
In similar fashion to the failed Torenite assault on Falens, the army of Ikalak has run to its demise against the walls of Belus. Yesterday evening, the vanguard of what appeared to be the full mobile force of Ikalak arrived in Belus, and was quickly destroyed by the defenders. This morning, the main body arrived. In a long, bloody battle, the Taselakian defenders succeeded in repelling the assault. Half a dozen enemy nobles were captured, and Maximus, Prime Minister of Ikalak, was carried off the field on a stretcher. The victory was sweet, but it was nothing compared the joy felt when it became clear that Ikalak would follow the ways of their Torenite lapdogs, and waste the rest of their army in a pointless third battle. Less than an hour ago, the remnants of the Ikalakian army was slaughtered by the defenders of Belus. Kaysa, Minister of Defense of Ikalak, followed the example of her Prime Minister, and was dragged off the field, wounded. And there was much rejoicing!
Kail to join Taselak next?
14 February 2007 (Somewhere on the South-East Island) by Lynsey Habap
With part of the Heavy Strikers Group occupying Kail, one wonders if yet another Toren region is about to fall to Taselak. This would cut off most of the regions which grudgingly swear fealty to the realm and might cause local independence movements. No word yet on whether Ikalak has decided to stop holding onto their treaty with Toren and expand their dominance of the Island.
Odd Speculations of Duplicity
14 February 2007 (Somewhere on the South-East Island) by Lynsey Habap
Recently, there has been speculation that Toren will turn to backstab Ikalak when the time is right. Looking at the military situation, one must agree that Toren has done a great deal to convince Ikalak that they would never be able to turn on them. After all, when you have a hard time defending the regions around your capital, it can be hard to convince anyone that you could march on old Ikalak City, defeat the militia and secure it for yourselves.

No one at the Taselak Tribune lends any credence to these rumours, as we have seen nothing from the yaks leading their nobles that would indicate any capable to order their army in any one direction with any talent whatsoever.

Regions returning to Taselak
12 February 2007 (Somewhere on the South-East Island) by Lynsey Habap
As regions begin to return to Taselakian control, one can only wonder at the gambit made by Toren leaders in crossing the mountains from Toren Stronghold to Falens. They ended up coming out of the mountains in three waves. Each wave crashed upon the rocks that are the Shields of Falens. It was a classic opportunity to see a defeat in detail.

While a small portion of the Taselakian army was defeating the yak-lead masses, other Taselakian leaders began takeovers of regions recently fallen under Toren control. Word has even reached this reporter of takeover attempts in 3 other Toren regions, though the runner may simply have been exaggerating the news.

What looked bleak before Phear and Karibash threw their army away in foolishness appears suddenly triumphant.

Inspiring Leadership Abounds
10 February 2007 (Falens) by Sennianus the Mad
As the sun came closer and closer to the horizon, Sennianus gathered his men for the stand in Falens. Already, the grass plains at the foot of the mountains were drenched in blood from the morning battle, but that had only been an appetizer for the main course. The vanguard of the Toren army was intercepted before they could be joined by their companions, and swiftly defeated. One of Taselaks warriors, a young heroine named Tala, fell in the thick of battle, and her brethren were eager to take revenge. The battle-weary soldiers of Taselak would have to face fresh troops from the Toren Stronghold, but they were ready. Their swords still had the dried blood of their vanquished foes, their armor was still bloody, bruised and dirty from prolonged combat. Many warriors had fresh wounds... and in some cases, even a severed arm was not enough to force a Taselakian off the battlefield.

The Woad Warriors stood in front of their commander, awaiting the traditional battle speech. It had lifted their courage this morning, but Sennianus knew he would have to fill their hearts with bloodlust for this fight, a fight which promised to be extraordinarily brutal. The Toren troops would want revenge for their humiliating loss, and the warriors of Taselak were poised to avenge Tala.

Sennianus scraped his throat. "Warriors of Taselak... today, many lives will be lost, and many souls will travel to the afterlife! All you can do today is try to make sure that your life, your soul is not one of them! It is a sweet and seemly thing to die for one's country, but it is better yet to live and tell tales of glorious victory!"

Sennianus paused for a second, as his men raised their swords and banged them on their shields. "Brave warriors, we will face the armies of Toren once more! We crushed them in battle this morning, a defeat they did not expect to suffer! They will fear us, for they know that they will soon follow their countrymen in death!"

Again, the men cheered. Sennianus smiled. "Then again, you should not show the enemy any mercy, for he will not show you any himself. If you see your enemy, kill him, step over his corpse and kill his friends!"

By now, some soldiers from other units had come to see what the noise was. A few must have figured that Sennianus had earned his moniker just and true. A half-naked barbarian, yelling at more half-naked barbarians. But they kept listening nonetheless.

"Warriors of Taselak! The enemy outnumbers us, but that means little, only that each man will have to kill a few enemies more! So, draw your swords, point your spears at the enemy, string your bows, and prepare to fight for your country. Be prepared to DIE for your country! Many of you will not live to see the next sunrise, but the rest of us will raise our mugs in your honor, as we tell great tales of how the mighty Taselakians crushed the feeble warriors of Toren!"

Suddenly, war drums sounded in the distance. All heads turned in the direction of the mountains, where the first enemy banners appeared. Sennianus faced them, spat on the ground and turned to his men.

"Woad Warriors... WAR CRY!!!"

Fenrir, Paladin Primus of Toren, Count of Neralle, Marshal of the Tor's Retribution (Toren) was captured by Taselak forces during the battle. It was the second battle in Falens and all parties expect a third promptly.

Reminder from the Judge's Bulletin
2 February 2007 (Taselak) by Kanuni, Arch Priest of Taselak, Count of Endelee, Marshal of the ~=HSG=~ Tax Collectors
Duelling is illegal. If you engage in any kind of dueling apart from the one till first blood expect to be fined 100gp. Second offence will result with banning from the realm. We cannot afford to have wounded troop leaders!
Battle devastates two armies
6 February 2007 (Cirannor) by Lynsey Habap
A gigantic battle in Cirannor has left both the Taselakian and Ikalakan forces in poor condition. Rumors of the details of the battle raced across the land even before the wounded started their lamentable cries. Dozens of nobles from both sides were wounded or captured and hundreds of men at arms lost their lives.
Lesthem and Seggelin fall rapidly
6 February 2007 (Cirannor) by Lynsey Habap
The vacation that the people of Lesthem and Seggelin enjoyed during most of Janauary has now ended, with both regions falling under control of Toren while Taselak forces were off fighting the Ikalakan army. One imagines that once their ranks are filled again, Taselakan troops will re-secure these borders regions. The lack of activity apparently allowed Toren forces to build to respectable numbers despite their poverty and poor leadership. One must admit that hiding in Toren Stronghold is the most successful strategy they've come up with yet.
Editorial: New Format
1 February 2007 (Taselak) by Lynsey Habap
Having seen and admired the formatting of the Volcanic Hot Newsletter, I have unilaterally changed the format of our paper. I think this format is both more pleasing to the eye and easier to read. We have to make it easier to read, as soldiers in the field are not always the most literate of souls.
Taselak Laughs as Karibash’s head grows bigger
2 February 2007 (Taselak) by cronos
It seems to those few readers of the Toren Herald (myself included, mostly for comedic value) that the editor Karibash’s gloating and incredibly large ego just don’t seem to subside! Unfortunately, it has even come to the point where he does not know what he is talking about anymore and doesn’t care as long as he gets the see ‘Karibash the great’ in an article somewhere. Funnily enough this is a self given title as he has no supporters or past achievements to actually justify this title... some would actually say the opposite about him!

As regards to his statement of Taselak fleeing from the ‘mighty’ Toren army, this reader laughed so hard that my face changed colour and I almost passed out! ...and who says war can’t be fun?!

Taselak has indeed fallen back from the further advance into Toren’s lands, but much to Karibash the Laughable’s disappointment, it was to deal with the slightly mightier 30k CS Ikalak army (you know, the one that will crush Toren in about a week if Taselak falls) that is currently attacking us in the south. In fact the only reason we are able to do this is because of the LACK of might in the Toren army. It should, of course, be known that I do not blame the Nobles of Toren for this but in fact their leadership, but that’s a story for another time!

Finally, about your challenge or ‘threat’ to one of my nobles. I would ask her NOT to accept such a challenge unless it is from a far worthier opponent. I would not allow anyone to waste their skills on such a fool as ‘Karibash the Laughable’, so go back to hiding in your stronghold thinking of CRAZY theories about your superiority.

Hey look I can make up titles too!

Signed,

Cronos, the magnificently, fantastic, legendary, fearless, merciful, caring, pleasant smelling, far better than Karibash, King of Taselak.

The Wit of the Toren Herald
1 February 2007 (Taselak) by Lynsey Habap
Of late, the Toren Herald has been revived. Unfortunately, the recent articles are very short. Generally, they simply state "The Taselak Tribune is full of lies!" This seems to us not particularly insightful. Of course, experience with Toren had already lowered our expectations a great deal, so we did not feel too disappointed. Perhaps in the future, they may use their newspaper to report on some events rather than to simply shout "Lies, lies, lies!" One wonders if the new editor is stomping his feet when he writes....
