Talk:Feature Requests/Alternative Funding System for Temples and Guild Houses

I have comment and three questions:

1. I think this is a great idea!

Now, a meta-question:

2. Should this be discussed here or on the d-list?

Finally:

3. Why is the link only available when not travelling? What happens if the maintenance happens when the Lord is travelling, will the message get lost, or will the Lord just have to wait until his next stop to pay? It seems unnecessary.

4. Why make it so that it will not save the temple if the local treasury is empty? If this is implemented, unless this is written down IN BOLD FORMAT in the message every time, this is exactly the way I would assume it works. I can already predict there will be bug reports of temple closing down even though the Lord should have been able to pay the maintenance fee.

1) Cool! I liked it, too. :)
2) Well, full discussion should be done on the DList, after I finally submit an official request. But feel free to leave ideas here, that I can roll into an official request.
3) Most things in the game are unavailable when traveling. I figure this should be another of them. The way I envision it, the lord would get an IG message similar to the daily region report. Except in this case he wouldn't get it daily, just when maintenance happens on the temples and guildhouses in his region. If the lord didn't want to click it right now, then he would be able to go into his message history and click it later. I propose that the link would be valid for the next 5 days.
OK, but... why? This "unavailable when travelling" business always bothered me. It does not help to make the game lightweight.vonGenf
4) Multiple reasons, really:
A) We want it to be possible, and likely, that temples and guildhouses that are not properly supported will still fall apart and get removed.
B) Coding simplicity. It's much easier, and therefore more likely to be implemented, if we don't interfere too much with the existing mechanisms. In order to allow the lord to click and save the temple, we need to add additional database fields and scripts to support delayed payment of maintenance fees, etc.
C) We would write the message in such a way to make it clear what is happening, and how it works. i.e.: "The temple of Keplerism in your region has paid a weekly maintenance fee of 4 gold from the local treasury. Would you like to restock the local treasury with 4 gold from your own pocket?" or: "The temple of Keplerism in your region has been reduced to Size 1 due to lack of gold in its local treasury. Would you like to place 2 gold from your own pocket into the local treasury to keep this from happening again next week?"

That makes sense. vonGenf
