History

"The gateway to the north", Eurotan's history is mostly comprised of tales of travellers passing through and the byzantine feuds between it's rough but proud crofting families. The region suffered badly during the civil war between North Darka and South Darka due to it's strategic location and it's civilian population was decimated. This tragedy was compounded by a sickness that all but wiped-out the region's sheep and cattle toward the end of the war leading to great suffering in the surviving commoners and an exodus of the local nobility. However, the hardy and practical people of Eurotan persevered in the face of this adversity with quiet determination, aided by nobles who had been rewarded with estates there after the war, and once again the region is thriving.

Description

Despite it's small size Eurotan's location provides it with a wide variety of rural landscapes. To the west the coastline is comprised of rocky beaches and coves with the sea providing good fishing and an abundance of shellfish. The south and east are relatively flat scrubland, made fertile by the ash of the sacred volcano while the rolling hills to the north of the region are less hospitable and brush up against the foothills of Mount Sinclair.

The population of Eurotan is mostly rural. Small villages of farm-worker's cottages are common the south but there is little more in the north than a few smithies and taverns that act as communal gathering places for the clannish crofting families who sustain a simple existence from sheep farming and peat cutting.

The sparse, sprawling town of Dalimo is centrally located and serves as an agricultural trading hub. A few basic inns, warehouses and workshops built from the dark granite of the northern hills surround a town square whose focal point is a granite statue depicting R'Guard Da Hadez; a member of a noble Eurotan dynasty who was lost fighting undead on the northern border. This hooded figure, head bowed, lends a sombre tone to the otherwise lively and colourful twice-weekly farmers' market where local farmers and traders rub shoulders with merchants on the north-south trade route.

The densely built village of Talismo sits on the coast and is the focus of a modest economy based on fishing and trading. It's natural harbour provides a haven in bad weather for local fishing boats and the occasional medium trader though it's rocky bed prevents it's use by ships with a deeper draught. A few wooden warehouses by the harbour provide the walls of a canvas-covered marketplace. Directly south of Talismo are it's famous salt pans; a valuable resource jealously guarded by a few local families.

This region has a temple of Darkanism or has a significant portion of its population following Darkanism.
