Emigrate

From BattleMaster Wiki
(Redirected from Emmigrate)

Emigration is the act of moving from one island to another: you board a ship, shake the old island's dust from your shoes, and set sail, with however much gold you can carry (minus a hefty fee for the passage, of course). The trip is long and arduous, and many are the rumours of troop leaders who never quite make it to their destinations, or are robbed en route.

The act of emigrating is severely damaging to one's reputation. One tends to view with distrust the sort of chap who willingly boards a boat and spends a week or so at sea, eating hardtack and fraternising with sailors. That's just the people who know you personally -- those who don't know you from Adam are bound to be even more suspicious. After all, you've no proof that you are who you say you are. It's one thing to go around claiming to be this honourable and prestigious fellow, but he's on another island entirely, now, isn't he? Convenient, that... In short, emigrating from one island to another will cause you to lose a bit of honour and prestige.

The only way to get to Beluaterra is by emigration -- it is still being colonised, and there are no families native to the island. Besides, Beluaterra is dangerous enough, that only experienced troop leaders ought to go there.

Deportation

Sometimes that sea voyage is not entirely voluntary. If you find yourself in the prison of a realm from which you've been banned, or happen to have been picked up as a rogue, then the judge may just decide to shackle you, throw you on a ship, and send you to the island of his choice, free of charge. Count your blessings -- he could have had you executed instead!
