Editor's note: While other papers may employ sorcery and witchcraft to instantaneous transport their news across the continent, the Falasan Inquirer refuses to stoop to such a level and contents itself with simple carts and wagons. As such, do not be surprised if you encounter new articles that are released at an older date than is current.
Backstabber Escapes into Shadows |
February 27th, 2007 Reports came tonight of the sudden disappearance of the 'Duke' Torin. Whether in a bid for sympathy or simply an exclamation of despair at his desperate situation, the traitor left behind a note by his bedside, |
stating that he had "left for a better world." Although no traces of violence could be discovered, his body was nowhere to be found. |

Squeeing Expedition Results in Manhunt |
February 25th, 2007 King Tank's mysterious disappearance was finally brought to light yesterday, as the Falasan Inquirer 'interviewed' his servants (note to editor-please don't forget to add the 24 silver 'travel expenses' to the books). As personally stated by one of the above, who has declined to be named for fear of reprisals: "Wael, m'lord, ah'd last seen 'im drinkin' an' carousin' about wit his soldiers, when ah saw 'im pull out these loong wooden sticks! 'E tied 'em to 'is horse and rode off wit a bunch of 'is men, shoutin' somting about chkees or squees." As such, he is presumed to have ridden off from Barad Gardor onto the slopes of Anfalas. A peasant woodcutter witnessed all of the activities, and reported "Now, twas a sight odder 'n the day my great-great-great-grand-papa was walking by a lake and got attacked by a chicken." Apparently, King Tank was on a steep slope and was busily attaching some sort of wooden sticks to his feet. |
The woodcutter continued on to say that he saw Tank zip down the slope, singing "Oh Aren't You My Darling Lassie" as he flew off a cliff. Further events can only be theorized, as no witnesses were present nor have any of Tank's men commented on the issue. However, it can be presumed that they commenced a thorough search for him (or his body) immediately. It is quite odd though, that they did not report his disappearance until after provisions began for a royal election due to King Tank's vanishment. At that point, a hunt began in earnest for him (or his body), although the preparations for the election continued. Lord Yavuz was proposed by many, although he willingly stepped to the side when others nominated Gucky, former High Marshal of Falasan. The elections proceeded, and Gucky was elected, although the coronation ceremonies were interrupted just as the crown was settled on King Gucky's head by a messenger who announced that Tank had been found. |

Regions Brutally Subjugated! |
February 25th, 2007 Estonite forces savagely crushed all resistance and finally succeeded in removing all loyal civil servants from Belegmon and Nazia. Their task was immensely aided by the secession, which shook the faith of the populace in the stability of the realm. |
However, Falasan's army gathers to liberate the conquered regions. The Estonites may hold them for now for now, but Falasan will reclaim them in the end. After all, he who laughs last, laughs best. |

Coward Abandons Falasan |
February 21th, 2007 Falasanian nobility was much improved after the fool, Torin Capashin, left its ranks. After expansively proclaiming his boundless love for his people, he went on to outline his grandiose plan to save them from the ravages of the coming war and destruction from Eston...in spite of the fact that Tucha is the southernmost city and the furthest from Eston. (See the full text on page 13) Torin's secession was the most foolish action he could have done to keep his people safe. Not only has he weakened Falasan, and hence Falasan's ability to resist the Estonite hordes, he has provided several tantalizing regions which other realms unfriendly to Falasan may find too tempting to resist. As such, his own actions will bring the war and desolation he has so worked so desperately to prevent. |
Furthermore, he does not appear to have given any thought to accumulating allies in his plan for Tucha's independence. Although his actions were well-intentioned, his actual plan is ineptly clumsy. Any Falasani noble would have disapproved of his secession on general principles, but the very manner in which he bungled it! And bungled it he did. Rumours swept the land of his intentions well before his actions, although the Falasani army was unable to act with the Estonite forces threatening the border. Gaffe after gaffe continued, as his tyrannic rule was overthrown by his own co-plotters. In any case, Torin can be thought of as naught else but a fool and a coward. How else can one consider the actions of one who surrenders before the enemy has appeared and despite the relative safety of his lands? |

Traitor Exposed! |
February 21th, 2007 A cowardly double-crosser finally exposed his true colours as Estonite and Darkan forces approached Falasan's borders. Perfectly timed to coincide with the invasion of Falasan, Torin has finally shown his true allegiance to Eston. His actions are no surprise, as he has obviously been corrupted by his association with Estonites and cannot help but share in their deceitful nature and guileful ways. In spite of their general's promises not to attack Falasan if the same behaviour was observed by Falasan, |
Eston once more displayed its complete lack of honour as it invaded Belegmon without warning for the second time. Obviously aware of their inferiority in the face of Falasan's might, Eston has hired Darka to supplement their paltry forces. At least one can savor the fact that Torin will not have long to enjoy his newfound independence. Tara's grasping, avaricious hands will undoubtedly reach out to seize his lands; they can always claim that Capashinia's independence voids any restraint that may have compelled them from annexing those regions. |

Falasan Proposes Peace |
February 16th, 2007 A treaty proposal for a lasting peace between Falasan and Tara was drafted and sent today by King Tank. This event hopefully signals the approach of a new age of peace and tranquility between these two former enemies. |
The transfer of these regions will result in a significant food deficit in Falasan, and Tara has agreed to allow trade to flow unimpeded to make up for this lack. |
|
Concession to Taran Demands |
February 16th, 2007 Today, King Tank announced a new treaty, accepting most Taran demands. This, in spite of the weakness imposed on Tara and the Cagilan Empire by the monster invasion. This, in spite of the continued provocation by Taran infiltrators. This, in spite of the great temptation posed by Tara's great vulnerability...and the possibility that they may become another Norland. (For the full text of the message see page 13.) Although sages and spies from every realm have noted the immense reduction in the strength of the Cagilan Empire, Tara's main supporter in its demands, Falasan withheld itself from retaliating at Tara's postponed takeovers. |
An unspoken cease-fire was held, pending the hoped-for (and largely achieved) destruction of the beasts and zombies roaming Atamara. Disdaining the courtesy shown by Falasan's nobles in their restraint, Taran infiltrators continued to provoke Falasan for the past few weeks, as they continued to assault troop leaders in spite of the unspoken cease-fire. One has to wonder at their mental acuity, as the targets they chose were far from the front, and those assassins were quickly captured before they could return to Taran lands. In this opinion of this reporter, there is little doubt that another Minas Ithil will be enacted. |

Many thanks |
February 3rd, 2007 We appreciate the warm welcome given by the Tara Times editors. With the conflict soon to grow between Falasan and Tara, we at the Falasan Inquirer look forward to facing you on the field of war as well as that of paper. |
Although we have the utmost respect for the journalistic competence of those at the Tara Times, we are certain that a certain bias will be always be included, and will work to counter it. Of course, this is not to say that we are not ourselves immune to such bias either... |

Troop leader banished |
February 2nd, 2007 Cammeroon was banned by Arch Priest Maniac two days ago on the grounds of treason, as an Estonite spy, for sowing confusion amongst Falasani nobles, for seeding distrust of Falasan's leaders and for participating in the underground. Although the first charge cannot be confirmed, many of his previous messages consistently downplayed the authority and trust towards the High Council, and the king's secret police trailed him long enough to confirm his position as a rebel plotter. In his defense, Cammeroon states:
|
It is interesting to note that although at first he categorically states that he was not part of any rebellion, he later declares in another letter
In what has been pointed out by others as an act of petty revenge, Cammeroon tortured his poor scribe, having him copy over again and again reams of his message log, sending a copy to each of Falasan's 97 other nobles. However, Cammeroon continues to proclaim his innocence, and has asserted that he is willing to enter Maniac's dungeons to prove his loyalty to Falasan. |
|
Traitor finally gone, good riddance! |
February 3rd, 2007 Despite all his promises of loyalty and willingness to appear in Falasan's dungeons, Cammeroon finally showed his true nature today. The subversive snake is now en route to Andurus, either to sell his services to the Cagilan Empire or simply to escape his justly deserved imprisonment. |
Either way, his flight now pulls his words into the sunlight, revealed for the falsehoods they are. In the words of Maniac, Arch Priest of Falasan: "So he do have stuff to hide after all." Although he will soon be out of reach of Falasan's justice, at least he will no longer poison the thoughts of Falasan's nobles with his pernicious utterances. |

Upsurge in monsters throughout Atamara |
February 2nd, 2007 Reports have been received in Falasan of a large number of monsters and undead appearing simultaneously almost everywhere on the continent. |
Their source is unknown, but reports confirm that most of thesebeasts have congregated on the Cagilan Empire, Eston, Tara and Carelia. Some people fear that this may be the prelude to an undead invasion, as frequently occurs on the distant land of Beluaterra. |
|
Wrath of the gods? |
February 2nd, 2007 Hordes of monsters have suddenly appeared throughout the realm of Eston. |
Already, there are mutterings that this is but fitting retribution for their deceit and treachery. To each, their just desserts. |

Confusion results as neutral Eston attacks |
February 2nd, 2007 Puzzlement was prominent in the expressions of nobles throughout Falasan, as reports reached them of an invasion by Eston without a declaration of war. Despite this, they girded themselves for battle and headed to Barad Falas. Sadly, festivities the day before left many knights inebriated, and when orders were sent to reclaim Belegmon, few were actually in a state to comply. |
Estonite troops withdrew from Falasani lands soon after they received news of Queen Cathrine's illness, laudably leaving King Tank some time to arrange his affairs. Eston's leaders assured King Tank that they would remain neutral until talks between Falasan, the Cagilan Empire and Tara were concluded. |
|
Guile and deception abound amongst Estonite leaders! |
February 2nd, 2007 Eston finally attacked, after a long period of dissembling, duplicity and hypocrisy. Its leaders continually misled Queen Cathrine with promises of peace and friendship, all the while continually preparing for war. Eston's excuse for attacking? The presence of several Falasani troop leaders on Estonite lands, present without orders simply to help Eston eliminate a band of monsters. The following letter documents the treachery lying behind Estonite cunning:
Eston continued its double-dealing ways, as it invaded, looted, pillaged and ravaged the regions of Belegmon and Nazia without any formal declaration of war. Eston's hypocrisy is particularly evident when it protested the mercy shown by Maniac, Falasan's Arch Priest. Although he could have executed Marcus Magnus, the assassin, he simply deported him, in spite of the great temptation offered to him by his prisoner: |
Promises of peace were suddenly sent after Queen Cathrine fell ill and Tank was elected king, declaring that as long as Falasan did not invade Eston, Eston would do likewise...despite this, an Estonite infiltrator, Cornic, was captured not long afterward. Double-talk from Eston continued, as shown in the excerpt below:
All this, in spite of the words he had spouted earlier, "I will not insult you by playing political games any longer: Falasan proved itself a danger to Eston during our viking war and since. Now Eston is moving to reduce that danger."-Sir Basil Most likely, Eston realized that aid would not soon be forthcoming as negotiations between Tara and Falasan resumed. Playing for time, Eston is now a vulture, waiting to stab into Falasan's back once it has become fully engaged with Tara. |

Norland declares war on Minas Ithil |
February 2nd, 2007 After a moment of peace, brought about by Minas Ithil's concession to Norland's demands for the return of 3 regions, Norland declared war on Minas Ithil. |
Although the use of the term "Holy War" is highly suspect, this surprise move was most likely brought about due to the new change in the leadership of Norland, from Prime Minister Krypton the Bold to Derack the Daring. |
|
Perfidy and Dishonour |
February 2nd, 2007 Does Norland's rapaciousness ever end? After some great sword-shaking and shield-beating on the part of Norland, and further backed by the newly created Northern Federation, he finally forced Minas Ithil to cede 3 of her regions in return for peace. Although those lands had been rightfully obtained from Norland |
(as an inducement for the aid of Minas Ithil in a past war against Eston) Norland demanded the return of those regions, and obtained them. However, did it end there? No! Norland attempts to fob off his insatiable greed on the decrees of his 'gods', declaring a holy war on Minas Ithil and stating his intent to restore Hasland. If this war was truly declared for religious reasons, then I'll eat my horse. |
