Assuming this is your workshop for a new layout. Can I make comments, suggestions? --Aeillien 16:49, 23 June 2006 (CEST)

Sure, go ahead. I need all the help I can get. I've fixed up most of the things. --The1exile 16:56, 23 June 2006 (CEST)

First thing to note is that this is all my opinion, I won't be hurt if you ignore all of it. <grins> Your layout as it is now is workable, so don't worry too much about it. That said:

First thing I'd do is put the TOC up in your header (to the right of the newspaper name). That'll allow the articles the full length of the page, with the TOC where it is right now, it's a bit scrunched. I know it's hard (I struggled for like half an hour to get the TOC in the right place on my paper), but trust me, it's worth it. The way I did it (feel free to open up my page) was to put the TOC right after the name of the paper, and change the "colspan=3" to "colspan=2" (otherwise the TOC was scrunched on the right, in the right place, but very narrow.) I think the header is a natural sort of place for it.

I'd also put the price and the written by on diffrent lines, perferbly with the written by just below the price. That way the writers will all be on one line.

You also have a bit of "dead space" between the bottom of your header and the main news section. Not sure how to fix that right off the top of my head, but I would, were I you. That's everything I can think of for now. Hope it helps. --Aeillien 00:14, 24 June 2006 (CEST)

Got the last two, but I really cannot figure moving the TOC. I don't know if it looks that bad. I'll see if I write some more fake articles. --The1exile 00:51, 24 June 2006 (CEST)

Rather than having this page hard-coded, have you thought of drafting up a few templates, then when you want to add an article you just call on that template rather than having to fiddle around with all the code. DorianGray 15:22, 29 June 2006 (CEST)

Dropping this stuff into a template is a good idea and, I assume, what The1exile eventually intends (hopefully). The News Guide has some helpful templates (though, in my experience, having article titles automatically included in the TOC was helpful). Oh yeah, I agree with Aeillien. IMO, you should move the TOC up or something. It looks pretty squished where it is now (currently it is below the "The Itorunt Informer" light blue title bar). Has anyone written a Compact TOC (similar to the "manual" one I did for the top of Alebad)? --Calvin November 17:20, 29 June 2006 (CEST)

I've moved the TOC now. Any good?

Still need to figure how to change the colours of these links though. Help is appreciated.--The1exile 22:11, 29 June 2006 (CEST)

P.S. Also looking to get a scaled down version of the coat of arms of Ito to put too the left of the title, to balance out. Don't know how to do that without killing the TOC though. --The1exile 22:21, 29 June 2006 (CEST)

I had trouble with the realm symbol, the paper's name, and the TOC too. What I did, in short, was this:

| width="67%" colspan="2" style="font-size: 300%; text-align: center;"|<link to realm image> <Paper name>
| width="33%" style=font-size: 100%;"|__TOC__

Feel free to snag my paper's example. --Aeillien 00:18, 30 June 2006 (CEST)

Thanks, but it's still a bit big. Is there any way I can make it bigger without uploading it? I'm not sure that using the image in wiki would work in a template you see. --The1exile 10:25, 30 June 2006 (CEST)
To clairfy, are you wanting to display a larger version of an image that has already been uploaded to the wiki, instead of uploading a larger version of the same image (a la the HTML trick of using a <img src="image.gif" height=100 width=100> tag when "image.gif" actually is larger (200x200) or smaller (80x80) than the tag implies)? --Calvin November 03:42, 13 July 2006 (CEST)
Oops. That should have been "Is there any way I can make it smaller", not bigger. I mean the image that is shown when you just put in the URL, the image on the Itorunt page. I could upload the picture I guess but theres not much point, as my image editing programs have all broken, so it would be exactly the same. --The1exile 14:21, 13 July 2006 (CEST)
Bro, check out http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Images_and_other_uploaded_files or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Extended_image_syntax . If you don't find anything helpful there, I'd gladly resize something for you. My image editing programs are working dandy. --Calvin November 17:51, 13 July 2006 (CEST)
Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:The1exile and you don't need it in external link brackets, cuts down on the amount of typing by about 51%. Theres a reason I won't go near it. Besides which, it's not a big deal. I'll fiddle when I have more time (doing incredibly long days now...) --The1exile 18:22, 13 July 2006 (CEST)
