Sermons of Roberd Galvez, High Priest of the Church of Sartan

A private sermon to Tor Longmane

Honoured to be invited at your place, I'm here to represent Sartan. The one and only warrior arisen from the ashes in the battle of Nem-e-kabu, The God of War. The Church of Sartan has dedicated itself to Sartan only. The mortal warrior who lived for honour and battle. Lighten the flame of glory and honour, to perceive the warmth and light He brings. Credit Sartan the glory due His name, worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness.
Sartan’s guidance is mysterious in many ways, He reveals only what is required to chose the path of truth; the path of glory and honour, light and warmth, battle and victory. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but have your soul ascended by the renewing of your mind. Look upon the fire, allow your heart to speak through your soul and your words will be listened to. Only then you will be able to witness and obey what truly Sartan’s will is - His glorious, pleasing and perfect will. Never deny nor question His will, as you have only His standards to live by. And we will be granted with His blessing of strength, bravery and intelligence as long as we live by His will.
We Sartanians, followers of Sartan are descendants from the God of War. But who are we human beings, so small among the creation of all? Yet we are inferior only to Sartan Himself, He crowned us with glory and honour to rule over His creation. His blood blended with that of our noble forefathers flows through our veins, what makes us such outstanding warrior only inferior to the God of War Himself.
We never surrender, we never give up. And may there be a man brave, skilled and strong enough among the ranks of or enemies to please us with a glorious death. Impaled by the swords of our foes, our mortal flesh will be incinerated and our soul will find freedom, as it ascends to the sanctuary of Sartan, where it will encounter peace and rest in His hands. It’s the path in life we seek. And it is Sartan who guides us towards eternity. It is His will that we live, and only if we are ready, we will be honoured with death so we may live again, the eternal life in His safe hands. And we will only achieve the state of readiness if we obey His will and if we follow His footsteps through on the path of life.

A private sermon to Valgar Reinhart

I'm most honoured to be here today at the Gray-Stone Keep in Toap to represent Sartan, and to convey His teachings. Among those who don't believe in the path, Sartan is merely known as the God of War. While He's so much more. Sartan's aptitude to kill and win battles made Him the greatest warrior ever born. A talent gifted by the Gods, Ramsus, Tersea and Kokini. It's believed that Sartan arose from the ashes in the battle of Nem-e-kabu, where he was slain. The mortal who lived by a morale code of conduct. It is believed that the gift of the Gods were to test Sartan, a warrior who even thought His talents remained modest to mankind and servient to the Gods. Sartan didn't fought for the greed of Kings, but He fought for the love of His country and Gods. He never chose to become a hero, He was born as one. It was His destiny.
We are predestined to live and believe in Sartan's magnificence. We are descendants from the greatest warrior who once wandered the very earth you stand on. His blood blended with that of our noble forefathers flows through our veins, making us such outstanding warrior only inferior to the God of War Himself. We are crowned to rule over Ramsus' creation, and by the dignity Sartan taught us we shall live and fight to bring the world upon their knees as it has deviated from the norm, the holy norm set by the Gods. Sartan will bestow the world with His mercy, He will grant it repentance until every mortal has found the path of truth; the path of glory and honour, light and warmth.
Lighten the flame of warmth of light, pray to the Lord, compose it with your heart and soul and you will be heard. Sartan shall bestow His will upon you - Sartan's glorious, pleasing and perfect will. Sartan's guidance might be mysterious, but His teachings are clear. You're to follow His Morale Code of Conduct. You have only His standards to live by, on the narrow path you're walking. Pursuing His footsteps upon the path of life, to find the gate on the end of the road. As in a verse from the Book of Prayers: "Taught never to retreat, never to surrender. Taught that death on the battlefield in service to Sartan was the greatest glory he could achieve in his life." Incinerated by the flames of Sartan, our souls will exalt beyond the mortal world, into His sanctuary we go and live for an eternity.

A private sermon to Casey Fender

Young Casey, I would be honoured to guide you on the path of our Church. You seek the wisdom of the Church, and you will receive the knowledge of Sartan, the God of War. The youngest God of the Pantheon of Ibladesh. Our Lord and Protector. He was born as a mortal, to become a great general, but and even greater warrior. Following is own Code of Honour, He became a legend and was respected by both foe and friend alike. He fought for His Gods, and died for them. In return for His great virtues, the Pantheon decided to remove Sartan from His mortal flesh and blood, and ascended His soul to whom we now follow as the God of War. The Church of Sartan is all about the worship of Sartan. We dedicated our lives to Sartan only, in stead of the whole Pantheon. Following His Code of Honour, living up to the virtues of Sartan Himself. We are to serve, to protect other like Sartan protects us. Inspired by the Light and Warmth that comes from within Sartan, we fight for an enhanced existence. To bring the Word of Sartan to all of mankind, that Sartan's name be great among the nation, and He shall grand them repentance, so they too can find the path of truth. And you are moments away to enter the path that represent the greatness of Sartan. The path of the warrior, of a honourable and noble life. To fight for glory in the name of Sartan, as the valorous and dauntless warrior we are. The path is narrow, but we live and die for Sartan, for His grace, to be blessed with Salvation. An life of eternity in the Safety and Comfort of the Sanctuary of Sartan.
From the Book of Prayers: "The Church is a place of sanctuary and protection from the world, where one can sense the warmth and hospitality and even the love of Sartan who welcomes all those who seek the path of truth." That you may sense His love as well, and be welcomed into the Church of Sartan.

Sermons of Selene Octavius, High Priest of the Far Eastern Church of Sartan and Missionary of the Beluaterran Church of Sartan

A private sermon to Velax de Vere, Viscount of Mraulaxon, Marshal of the Royal Arcaean Legion (later Velax de Vere, First of his Name, King of Arcaea

Viscount,

Sartan is the God of honourable warfare, a term which is often shortened to the God of War. He was once a mortal like you or I and was the greatest warrior who ever lived. When He died He ascended to godhood. We believe that Sartan was a God prior to His time as a mortal but our records cannot be certain on that point.

What we do know is that He left behind an absolute moral code which describes how every man, woman and child must behave. Everyone has their place and everyone must fulfil their role with honour and duty.

In this code, honour is key. Without honour or principle a man is worthless. We must live our lives with honour. Courage is key. Without courage a man will achieve nothing. Courage is not being unafraid but being afraid and acting anyway. Honour is to live your life fighting for Sartan and others. Whether you fight by valour upon the field of battle or fight by labouring in the fields to provide food for the soldiers everyone must fight for Sartan. For unless you serve Sartan and your fellow man, your life is worthless and without purpose. But unless you serve with honour and respect for others, even for your enemies, then you are unworthy of Sartan and the code he left us. He who commits rapine or cold blooded murder incurs the wrath of Sartan and will know no peace in this life or the next. You are only human. But through striving for perfection you do as much as any can ask of you. He who does any less is not a man.

This is what we believe and we serve Sartan by honouring His code.

I hope this has answered any questions you might have had.

A private sermon to Sir William Norrel, Marshal of the Vanguard of Toupellon, Count of Zarimel

Lord William I thank you for inviting me here this evening, and for showing an interest in the teachings of Sartan.

I know you by reputation to be an honourable man and a great warrior. In many ways your own traits echo the traits that the Code of Sartan, written by Sartan himself, instructs all to live by.

For followers of Sartan honour, above all, is key. For without honour or principles a man is worthless. A man reveals himself in how he treats his enemies. Sartan may be the God of War but any who debase themselves through rapine or base murder are not warriors but no more than vermin - who must be put down.

But if you allow honour to guide you then anyone, no matter how low or high, can prove themselves worthy to Sartan. And honour is to live your life fighting for Sartan and for others. Whether men fight by valour upon the field of battle, or fight by labouring in the fields to provide food for the soldiers, everyone must fight for Sartan. For without Sartan and the code He left for us there is nothing but the anarchy of brigands and the death of all honour and nobility.

Lord William of House Norrel, I fervently hope that you will be willing to take the step of formally dedicating yourself to Sartan and to the Code and to the Church. If you are willing to take this step then I will gladly be your guide through the glory of the faith.

A public sermon in the city of Akanos

Selene stood in the square, mid-sermon.

"Saint Sito was the one who was chosen as the exalted prophet of Sartan. By His will, Saint Sito spread the word of the Code of Sartan throughout the lands of Old Sartania and it was he who founded our glorious Church. His life of piety and devotion should be an example to all. Not once did Saint Sito rest from his labours. He eschewed the noble life into which he was born and spent his days living in the same poverty as the meanest peasant in order to spread Sartan's Code to all no matter how low or high they were.

"And it is that which is my message for you today. No matter how high or how low, we are all equal in the sight of Sartan. It does not matter if you are poor or if you are rich, all of us can find glory in the eyes of Sartan by following His Code. And in the Code there is place for all of us. Be you the peasant labouring in the fields or the noble king fighting in battle, the Code has a place for you and offers you a chance for eternal glory and salvation.

"What does the code require of you? That is simple.

"Live your lives with honour! Live them with courage! Protect and care for the innocent! Obey your oaths and do your duty! Each of us has a divinely ordained place within the order of creation! Know your place and rejoice in it! And, above all, live your lives with piety and with morality through honouring Sartan and the other gods! These are the fundamental truths that we must all follow and embrace! And, when we do so, our hearts are freed from weariness for we know that eternal glory is ours and that Sartan will bless us and guide us through all troubles! Hail Sartan!"

"Hail Sartan!" the crowd yelled back in response.

"May Sartan bless and keep you all!" Selene shouted, staring out, fever-eyed across the masses of people crammed into the square.

"And you also" chanted the crown in a rote response which marked the end of the sermon.

As the crowd began to disperse, Selen climbed down from the barrel on which she had stood, grateful for the helping hand of one of the junior priests from the local temple.

A private letter to Count Tharan in the realm of Carelia on Atamara

Count Tharan,

Missionary Selene begins by apologising for the delay in replying to Count Tharan's letter and by commenting on her departure from the Cagilan Empire.

As for my faith, I shall start from the beginning:

"In the beginning everything was fluid. There was no specific colour, nor was there any form. Inside of this holy fluid mass everything was possible, but nothing yet manifested. Out of this enormous eternal pool of possibilities one divine concept manifested in the Universe. It was the holy concept of diversity and with this ultimate first idea suddenly there were colours, forms and words. First of all the divine energy manifested in four holy bodies. Four names and four colours were created: Ramsus (gold), Sartan (red), Kokini (black) and Tersea (green). The Pantheon was born. From there on the holy concept of diversity got more and more manifested. All the celestial bodies, earth, sun and moon got form and colour. All things and living beings manifested under the control of the divine Pantheon." - I, The Ibladeshian Book of Origin

Ramsus created the world and all living beings. Sartan, who followed Him, created the order of the world - placing the predators to hunt the prey and placing kings above nobles and nobles above peasants. From Sartan also came the conflict that is an intrinsic part of our world - the conflict which allows the strong to prove themselves and thrive. He also created Honour and Duty so that strong men did not use their strength to harm the weak and so that all men should know their place and follow the divine order of the world.

But, of all the gods, it was Sartan who cared most for men. For He came to our world and was born, lived and died as a mortal man, as a warrior, that He might better understand us and show us the will of the gods. He was the greatest warrior whoever lived and He was the perfect example of honour, and courage, and obedience to duty. What is more, He taught men of what the gods expected, and created a Code which He Himself followed all His mortal life and which He gave as an example and as a guide to all others.

When He finally died on the battlefield, in the greatest battle the world had seen, from His wounds after He had vanquished all His enemies, He rose and ascended again to his divine place amongst the pantheon. And His mortal followers recorded His Code and told others of it. And so was the Church of Sartan born with the descendants of Sartan's disciples ultimately founding Old Sartania - the place from whence I come and where Sartan first spoke to me.

For Sartan, of all the gods, loves us best, as a proud father and a tutor who has taught us and watched over us for so long. He gives His blessings to all who follow His Code and thus the Church of Sartan has thrived for the Code of Sartan has made our warriors great and victorious and Sartan's blessings have made us even greater.

The Code itself is simple. In it honour is key above all. For without honour or principles a man is worthless. And a man reveals himself in how he treats his enemies.

This is what I believe in Count Tharan. And it is my dear hope that you and all Carelia will come to believe in it too.

In faith,

Selene Octavius, Missionary of Sartan

A public letter to the nobles of Melhed

On the subject of faith, permit me then to explain the Church of Sartan for the benefit of those who do not yet know it:

Sartan is the God of Honourable War, one of the four true gods, but the only one deserving of worship. For in ancient times He came down to this world to be born as a mortal, to fight in our mortal wars, for glory and for honour and for duty. He was, naturally, the greatest warrior whoever lived, thanks to a strict moral code which He followed as a mortal.

When He finally died in the greatest battle of all time, fatally wounded after slaying all His foes, He returned to the heavens to take His seat again as a god but left His followers to preserve and spread the Code which He had lived by. Those followers became Sartanians and founded the realm of Old Sartania in the Far East.

Though that realm no longer stands, the Code of Sartan and His Church have survived and thrived, becoming the mightiest faith in the Far East and I myself came to Beluaterra to spread the Church of Sartan to the realms of the north east which are full of mighty warriors.

To this day, we follow the Code of Sartan and its message of honour, courage and duty. It is a guide which all of us, warriors or not, must live by - but it is especially fitting for warriors who are the highest in Sartan's eyes.

Already the majority of peasants in the eastern half of the realm follow Sartan and I would urge all of you to embrace it as well.

For if you are prepared to embrace the true faith, devote yourself to Sartan, follow His Code and honour Him through glorious deeds in battle, then you will ever truly belong in this Church.

Sermons of Martin Octavius, Archbishop of Niel and primate of the Church of Sartan

A sermon given in Enlod on the day of a feast celebrating the coronation of Queen Eva of Coralynth

It gives me great pleasure to be here in Enlod. Many years ago, this city was a stronghold of the realm of Arcachon and of the false faith of the evil priests of Adaghar, our oldest enemies as Sartanians.

Old Sartania fought a long war against them and Arcaea and was defeated, in part, no doubt, to the failure of many in that realm to follow the Code of Sartan. Yet, despite the destruction of Sartania and the scattering of the faithful, we survived. Our faith spread to many realms and our followers rose to power in many places. The Church, which had seemed to be on the verge of destruction, emerged greater than ever.

And, in Sartan's own time, He wrought the destruction of Arcachon by the hand of its erstwhile allies Arcaea who stormed and conquered the Dark Isle, Sartanian Arcaeans in the lead, bringing to an end both the Arcachonian barbarians and their false faith.

Then you, the Coralynthians, came here to build. From the wreckage of war you built a prosperous and pious realm, devout in its worship of Sartan, and the jewel of the Far East.

Your realm is a living testament to the greatness of Sartan and to the strength of His followers. With His blessings and guidance even the home city of our most ancient enemy now hosts one of His cathedrals and its people are, man, woman and child, as one in their devotion to Him.

You should celebrate this day with pride in all you have accomplished and confidence that the grace of Sartan shines down upon your realm and upon your Queen.

Long live Queen Eva and long live Coralynth - the living monument to the triumph of the faithful.
