Ledoux Family/Aubin/2019/August
First Week
Aubin first arrived in Unger of Thalmarkin on the isle of Beluaterra on August 3rd, 1019 at the young age 17, armed with nothing but two banners worth of soldiers from his household and a single bag of gold.
Thankfully Aubin was a prolific writer, making it easy to patch together his movements from letters. His first moves were to write a flurry of letters, loudly proclaiming himself to the nobility of Thalmarkin and offering his service to many. Many wrote back in those early days, most notably Sir Aeneas Gabanus Bluelake who bade him to join the army as soon as possible, and offered friendship and wrestling in equal measure.
Young Aubin took his suggestion to heart, and noticed rapidly that the Vice-Marshal and Chancellor of Thalmarkin, Anyte Luitolf, had open fiefs awaiting a lord to manage them. He wrote to her soon, asking for details of her ruling methods, and apparently found them to his liking for on August 4th he swore an oath to her as his liege, and to the realm. In the following days he rode to Lastfell and took up the House of Refugee.
Unfortunately for Aubin, his estate was the poorest in the realm. Being land set aside for foreign migrants fleeing from Bil Havil and peasants emigrating from Orde, the region was little more than a collection of huts squished together to house them until Chancellor Luitolf could find a better use for them. According to records, he was well aware of the land's state and intended to improve it through his management. How, exactly, was left unclear in his letters.
