Our cousin Reylan was born to a mistress of our uncle who betrayed our family to fund the armies of Sirion. Kendel even believes Reylan's father may have been responsible for our parents' deaths, but the traitor found his own demise in the form of a poisoned arrow. Reylan gained favor from nobles of Eleador and leads his troops through lands that were the homes of our ancestors, laid to ruin by war. I never held Reylan responsible for the sins of his father, although my brother did. War is War, and Reylan was simply following orders and trying to better the kingdom that was the only home he knew. Traitors and malevolent dictators are the only men who truly deserve to be despised in this world.

Reylan and I only kept in touch after I immigrated to Hasland, since we knew as people in power in opposing realms, even the most innocent of communications could be misread and be an excuse for the cutting block. He told me that he stayed out of Omsk for as long as possible, and only participated in the final overwhelming assault which lead to their peaceful abdication.

Around the time I joined Southasland, Reylan fell ill and was confined to his home to die. After hanging on for years beyond anyone's expectations, he miraculously recovered and began to resume his career. He assisted the Arch Priest of Eleador for a long time, avoiding direct combat in their war against Oligarch so as to honor our family's heritage. He later wrote to me saying he had joined a rebellion in Rancagua, but he never did say what his reasons were. He had not been there long before I received another letter - he had suddenly fallen ill again, and this time he did not recover.

We never met face to face, but I will miss him.
