Astonishing Sword of War
This very peculiar Blade was found in Beluaterra during the arrival of undead in Ketampkin. It is a beautifully crafted and elaborate Bastard Sword, intended more for show than for actual use most would assume. However the undead apparently had little notion of this as it was found wielded by one of their Champions. The swords grip is made of ivory, a star sapphire embedded in the hilt; an odd Silver metal makes up the cross-piece and the blade which itself has a small ruby, diamond, and emerald placed within the lower half of the blade--distributed evenly in it's fuller. The blade despite it's appearance is finely balanced and remarkably light, allowing for deceptively quick movements with the sword. There are no other identifying marks to lend to it's past.
Discovery
This entry was taken from the journal of Kaylan, an Adventurer. It is the first known account of the Astonishing Sword of War in Bellatura and she is Credited with it's discovery.
When I had entered Ketampkin I could see what the other Adventurer's had spoken of, the undead walked the land like a plague. It was a shock to me that none had formed a group so large as to require the Nobles of the Realm to strike them down. I struck down a few smaller groups as I continued on my way into the land, they had nothing of value on them. Entering a small corpse of woods I sought to make a shelter for the night however I felt. . . watched. An odd feeling, the undead rarely watch one, merely attack. So I set up my camp, making a large fire and ensuring a supply of logs incase I needed to burn undead by mornings light.
I did not have to wait long, I could hear them approach -- by the Gods I could hear them -- no more shuffling but a well timed, well for undead at least, march. They spread out and I could count a dozen or more I lost track they were throughout the trees. I picked up the Morning Star and waited for them to approach.
As the first few came at me I swung a few light blows at them, their bones shattered and broke easily. Even their feeble rotted shields shattered. However those that I struck down were replaced by more and more. . .still they all were broken inanimate piles of bone in the end. Turning I sensed those eyes again, and out of the trees stepped a monsterous undead, it's eyes . . . it's eyes held intelligence. In it's hands was the most beautiful sword I had ever seen, a strange metallic silver blade and jewels within the hilt.
The Champion lunged at me, swinging the in a high downward slash. Making a roll forward I came out of it, turning just in time to duck as it slashed back at me. The speed at which the thing moved the blade was ridiculous! Swinging the Morning Star I managed to hit the beast in it's leg, a small crack running up it's hip bone. Promptly that damned blade came back at me! I managed to deflect it with the shaft of the Morning Star, but barely, a sharp pain in my chest told me the blade had struck true.
Backing off slightly I lunged fully foward with the morning star -- the blade intercepted it's full swing but the ball still managed to land firmly within the creatures chest. Several bones fell to the floor. Then the thing backhanded me across the face. . . I was barely conscious on the ground several feet away, wondering what had happened until it loomed large over me. Scrambling I managed to avoid several clumsy attempts to run me through, it seemed to losing some co-ordination.
Regaining my feet I picked up a large log from the fire, my morning star having apparently been dropped in my long flight. I could not see it then, though later I discovered it was only a few feet away from where I stood. Taking the flaming log I waited for the thing to come at me, it rushed quickly with several deft slashes, but the thick wood held true, deflecting each blow. Waiting I managed to push a swing high and away before bringing club down on the things weakened thigh. The bone cracked hard and as it took it's next step towards me the hip shattered under it's own weight. The creature fell, an unearthly howl coming up from . . .somewhere. The Gods know if those things can speak. It struggled on the ground -- but I beat it over and over again wtih the club, disambling what little was left of it's body.
The rest of the night was spent burning the remains, but I walked away from that battle with a new blade at my side. Though I've yet to find an armourer to fix this gash in my leather, I do imagine it might cause quite a ruckus in the next Tavern . . .
Thus ends the entry about the discovery of the Astonishing Blade of War
