West Continent is the codename of the first complete BattleMaster world map created by its own player community.

History

The original version of the map was presented to the Discussion List on October 25, 2005, designed by Darfix Panzer using Microsoft Paint to rework existing maps (note that previous world maps were created using the Age Of Wonders I editor). The initial layout of region borders was drawn up by Gias Kay Lee, and was subsequently refined by Matt Andrews, along with some improvements on geographic arrangements, all done using Gimp. After a massive process of region name soliciting, the names were picked out and put into the map with the sea routes sketched again by Gias Kay Lee. In order to honour the above three co-illustrators of the map, there are regions in the map that were named after them respectively. As of 17 November 2005, the graphical design of the project has been completed.

After a flush of excitement in the community, the project gradually died down due to the lack of further actions. According to Tom originally, the game will "possibly" be in need of a new playing world if the login counter reaches 1000 players per day or above. However, even though that threshold has been well broken by now, there is still no sign indicating Tom is officially starting to work on anything related with a new continent.

Current Status

On August 23, 2006, Stephen Pollei began the database establishment process, in which detailing several necessary parts of numeral information that will make this map truely playable.

As of September 2006, there is still no words from Tom on the future of West Continent.
