Arete Family

Background

Originally established in Riverholm, Abington on Atamara, though the family also currently has members in Ibladesh (on East Continent) and Toren (on South-East). While still a relatively young family, their reputation, especially in Abington, has been growing.

Coat of Arms

The "A" stands for the family's name "Arete", which is derived from the Greek word meaning "virtue," or more specifically, "the excellence that makes anything an outstanding specimen of its kind, especially well fitted to its ends" (Nicomachean Ethics, trans. Joe Sachs, pg. 212). The color blue stands for the virtue of loyalty, which the Arete family believes is the most important virtue of a noble. The family motto is Vincula de linguae vel tibi linguae dabit - "Lay restraint on thy tongue or thy tongue will lay it on thee". It is not present on the Arete Coat of Arms.

Averyll is getting close to 20 prestige, and if Aeryn or Alendru manage to find their way to the battlefront, family prestige will hit 50 quickly. Averyll was also almost elected banker, and will probably run again next month. (Both Aeryn and Alendru would also like to be bankers, but they have not done anything about it yet.) Averyll is also a mentor, and while students are few in on the South-East island, eventually she will receive a fame point there. Aeryn, however, hopes to replace Callisto as the Duchess of Suville once Callisto is elected Queen of Abington. Alendru would like to found a religion on Beluterra, but wants to make money and build his reputation on the East Continent first. Since everyone is a region lord, it should not take that long for the family to acquire a far bit of wealth (however, the siblings have a tendency to spend their money on their realm so who knows). Once all of this is done, the family should enjoy a fame of 13.
