Yao Ling went into the portal in Creasur and came out with the Tome of Life Before Death.
Betty leaned against Yao Ling as their eyes poured over another page in the book Yao Ling had carried from the portal. The book with the words “Life Before Death” engraved onto it.
The words of the preface still burned in her brain. “Life comes before Death.” “Choose Life above Death.” “Place your Life between Death and those you protect.” It was like all the teachings of Daishi distilled into a handful of phrases that were so accurate it made the soul call out.
The rest of the book seemed to be ever in flux. They could look at a page once and it said one thing. But when they went back to it, it said something different. They had checked to be sure. Whatever page they were on though, it always told ways to fight the dead. Some Betty already knew. Others she knew she had used and forgotten. Others were new to her. All of it was amazing, and she read each page with a mind that desperately wanted to absorb every word.
