Sorraine/The Chapter of Empowerment
The Isolation of Ossaet
Following Genesis, Sorraine faced immediate problems surrounding food distribution, the loyalty of the lower caste, and the isolation of Ossaet. Prior to Caspius' secession, he attempted to persuade Viridiana Sovari, Countess of Anaos, to alter her allegiance to the Duchy of Ozrat. He subsequently failed. The rural county previously altered its allegiance to the Duchy of Colasan, after a fallout between Viridiana's predecessor and Duke Caspius, and Caspius sought to have it returned, as the contested region was the only thing connecting Ozrat to the Duchy of Ossaet. With negotiations haven fallen through, however, and Duke Jatha's former countrymen in Toupellon resentful of his actions, options fast became limited.
In an attempt to save his own duchy from starvation and destruction - as Toupellon was still at war with Ohnar West - Duke Jatha altered the allegiance of his duchy to the realm of Ohnar West. He provided explanation to Prime Minister Me'hoe for his actions and notified the Prime Minister that he intended to alter his allegiance to Sorraine when the opportunity arose. Caspius, working diligently to repair the situation, also solidified a promise between him and the Prime Minister, assuring the territories claimed by Sorraine; including the Duchy of Ossaet. After a week, Viridiana was pressured by her countrymen to join the realm of Sorraine, finally, and it seemed all would go well for the fortunate Sartanian King. However, things hardly go to plan.
Four days before Duke Jatha was legally able to alter his allegiance, the Prime Minister quickly turned on his own word and banished Duke Jatha from Ohnar West. Duchess Maria Norrel was voted into office and remained loyal to her republic. The Sartanian King was utterly furious by this sudden act of betrayal, his realm up in arms, and declared Sorraine's first war against the tyranny of the republic.
Sorraine's First War
The Sartanian King - ruler of a fourteen day old Kingdom - played his cards right and quickly gained the upper hand. Arcaea, who was an avid supporter of Sorraine - hosting the largest armies in the Far East - quickly joined Sorraine's side of the conflict. Following military support, Caspius also convinced the other rulers of the continent to abstain from the battle in the North, citing the former agreement made with the Prime Minister and his possession of legitimate claim, as Duke Jatha rejoined Sorraine as a mere Knight.
There isn't much to write about in terms of glorious battles, pyrrhic and heroic victories, nor is there the account of famous seizures of land. Simply put, Arcaea and Sorraine crushed their opponents and lay siege to Ohnar West's Capitol, Sasrhas, in a matter of days and easily occupied it thereafter. Negotiations were already on the table and victory was assured. However, a plot suddenly revealed itself from the depths of Ohnar West's corruption. It came to light that outstanding members of the republic, Duchess Maria being one of them, sought to destroy the Magnificent Temple to the Church of Sartan in Ossaet; the last and oldest of its kind in the Far East. Caspius moved quickly and threatened the complete and utter destruction of Ohnar West should they proceed with said action, burning their lands and people in Sartan's fury should they not hand over the Duchy immediately. And so it came to pass that the Duchy was handed over, Duchess Maria banished, and a treaty signed in Sorraine's favor to bring an end to the war.
