The Phoenix Guard, is currently the main main army of the realm of Everguard, on the continent of Dwilight. Founded by Duke Lestat Corax under orders from High King Fisc Arylon in the early days of the kingdom. It constitutes the bulk of Everguard's forces and serves as the arm of Everguard's expansionist plans.
History of the Army
The army, was the main military force of the realm of Toren, on the South-East Island. Founded in the aftermath of the great archive fire, when all of Toren's armies were wiped out, the Phoenix Guard was meant to serve as a symbol - to Toren's rebirth from the brink of destruction, to the refusal of her armies to give up, but predominantly it represented the concept that Toren can never be fully destroyed.
The Guard served as the defenders of Tor's kingdom on earth providing an impenetrable defensive wall of soldiers to push back invaders intent on capturing the lands of Toren. The members of this army were the most experienced and professional fighters in Toren. Many of the Guard would not bend, even during Toren's darkest hour in the time following the Toren Rebellion. Not even then did these rough men allow any enemy troops threaten the interior of Toren.
The Phoenix Guard also served as the main invasion force in Toren's expansionist efforts. When Toren became increasingly on the offensive, the Phoenix Guard made its name known beyond its own borders, and was assured a place in history as one of the most feared fighting forces ever seen on South-East Island. Until the South-East Island began to sink into oblivion, that is.
Re-establishment in Everguard
Once the realm of Everguard was founded, it had a need for a main army. The High King found himself unable to found an army in his new realm, and as such requested Duke Lestat Corax found the main force for Everguard. He felt given the nature of the birth of Everguard from the refugees of the South-East Island as well as the cast outs from Springdale, it was appropriate to name the realm's first army after the army he had controlled in his former life on the island. The symbolism of the Phoenix, and of the army's motto - Vengence is reborn - fit perfectly with the new realm and her people.. As such, Duke Lestat formed a reconstituted Phoenix Guard, and immediately saw to it being a professional army - naming the popular tactician Jack Carnes as its first Marshal.
