Discovery

...While Aethelmaer readied himself for another trek, he decided to take a better look at the shield. After a few seconds of admiration again, he had already known his initial assumptions as to the engravings was wrong. The figure upon the shield wasn't that of a dragon, but of a large serpent. It's head was rather detailed, looking like that of a human head with hair made of snakes. The figure was spitting out something, it was hard to tell what exactly, but it certainly was not fire. One thing was certain though, the scales still were the focus of the shield, and they shined with brilliance despite the shield having taken a few hits from his sword.

There were many golden tassles hanging from the outer edges of the shield and seemed only to serve to glorify and add to the brilliance of the shield. Each was so elegantly braided with the utmost care and tied so that none would come loose during its use. Overall, the look of the shield was almost godly and it mesmerized Aethelmaer every time he looked at it.

Examination

...Charles traces the image on the shield's front with his hand, outlining the monster's features. The high quality craftsmanship of the item is unmistakable. He lifts the shield with both hands to get a better view of the creature. "Scaly skin, claws, boar tusks, wings...and is that hair made venomous snakes? What on earth is this thing?" One of the group's experts pipes in, "A gorgon, milord. An ancient beast of legend often displayed in hopes of warding off evil."
