Charged with finding the history of the Item by the Duke of Eidulb, Keichus traveled about the area inquiring of the local peasants if they had any knowledge of the mysterious ring. They would shake there heads and continue with their drudgery. Eventually, the freeman had little choice but to seek out more unconventional sources of information. Rumors of a wiseman in the hills of neighboring Sabadell led the adventurer to the forest dwelling of a hermit sage. After examining the item, he offered this story:
Long ago, when the Dwili civilizations ruled the land and mighty armies clashed with each sunrise, there walked a great Hero. His deeds and name were known to all, though these things are lost to us now. However, like all Men, the Hero eventually met his end. But he was denied a hero's fate. It is said that he died of Illness, in a small farming village far from any battlefield. The villagers, after the proper ceremony and mourning, burned his remains as their custom dictated. There were many fears about the body "undying" at the time, you see. However, a Ring remained among the ashes, untouched by the hot flames. The villagers, being a simple folk, unlearned in the ways of mystical things, simply kept the Ring, and, not knowing its true value, would later barter it away. As time passed and the Ring changed hands, it came to be said that the Ring contained the unfulfilled yearnings of the Hero. What these are, I cannot say.
Satisfied with this telling, the freeman gave her thanks and went on her way. She returned to Duke Aram Stein and sold him the item, passing on the hermit's story.
Five days later, Keichus met her end hunting Monsters in the rurals of western Dwilight. Perhaps the glorious Death in Battle yearned for by the Hero? The mystery of the Ring of Glory continues...
