"It was a long trek to Shinnen, after many months of planning and preparation, and the way was fraught with danger on all sides. The goblin-kin dogged our steps, forcing us to withdraw and advance in order to avoid them, a deadly dance between the two sides. After a few battles and dozens of dead men, we finally made it to the city somewhat intact. We immediately begin the task of assuming control of the city and surrounding countryside, a task made easier by the fact that the goblin-kin seemingly deserted the area..."
- Rauffe de Grenefeld, Marquis of Shinnen Purlieus
Myern was founded in the city of Shinnen during the the summer of the sixth year of Dwilight by four nobles from the Grand Duchy of Fissoa; Erasel Arnel, Galeo Sciurus, Samuel Quasath, and Rauffe de Grenefeld. They set out from Fissoa with nearly a hundred men, making it the city of Shinnen with less than half that strength.
"Much has changed since those first few steps of the newborn realm. However, one thing has remained the same: monsters and undead still pillage the lands, and Myern has had a hard time facing these challenges. With the recent construction of fortifications in the capital, light can be seen at the end of the tunnel. Although some regions had to be abandoned to the monsters, Myern is slowly recovering to its former glory. Hail Myern!
- Update by Skyndarbau Melphrydd, Knight of Shinnen
"Despite what we all had thought, Myern is no more. The land of the Wolf has fallen. Using a foul excuse Alanna, the Witch of Pian en Luries has invaded the lands. Myern had been struggeling already, but when Alanna gathered her hordes in Giask, all hope was lost for our small state, and for it's big future. The remainders of Myern's troops manned the palisades in Shinnen Purlieus, the Capital's suburbs. Their faces were bright with courage, although they knew death was coming.
Then, suddenly at night, a monster horde struck. Reports had came in that Alanna was on her way, so the officers had allowed their men to sleep well for the last time. The beasts simply killed the few guards and surprised most men in their sleep. The soldiers had gone to bed with their sword in their hand, as always, but the majority of the defenders of Shinnen were simple commoners, armed with anything they had been able to lay their hands on. Most of those farmers and townsfolk had already been slaughtered before the first horns sounded. Soldiers rushed in from everywhere, and eventually the beasts were driven off. But when the sun gazed over the horizon, it looked down upon a slaughter. Bodies lay everywhere, killed in their sleep, killed in action, killed unarmed as they were. All these men that had died, could have fled. They could have run away and let their comrades die. But they did not. They chose to defend Myern 'till their last breath.
And even before a small part of the bodies had been buried, the sound of Alanna's war drums reached the city. Most Nobles left Myern to seek their fortune elsewhere, and to enable Myern to rise from the ashes later on once again. Sir Mick and Count Galeo chose to join Pian en Luries, for the sake of the people.
For the sake of Myern, King Erasel, Sir Lyam the Pactmaster, and myself chose to head towards Fissoa. The land of the Fissoan Privateers, the land where Erasel had lived before he went out to found Myern with the other Founding Fathers. The land where Myern would live on!"
