Mustian Family

The house of Mustian originates from Tapaliez, near the woodlands of rural Sartania, but currently hold estates in Far_East/Enlod and Far_East/Soniel within the realm of Arcachon.

History

The Mustian family began as a small tribe in rural Sartania. It was the great chief Paak, and his mind for war, that brought power and fame to the Mustian name. Realizing that observation, wisdom and innovation were the keys to his own success, he saw that his legacy would only be carried on through the education of his progeny—an education they could not receive in Sartania. In a controversy act of defiance, he took a wife from a powerless, highly religious tribe on the borderlands of Arcachon and Sartania, establishing a strong enough bloodline to Archachon that he could legally send his children to the best tutors in the realm.

Within two years, Paak's wife bore twins: Ake and Xara. She died from birthing complications shortly after they were delivered, and though the region mourned the loss of their beloved lady, there was much excitement over the two children. Many saw the occasion of a twin birth as an omen, ensuring that all followers of the Mustian family would live on blessed land and thrive.

Paak attended to the children's education personally, seeing that they both received rigorous training in battle and strategy as well as tutoring in literature, art, politics and philosophy. Once Ake and Xara reached the age of 12, Paak realized they could learn no more from him or from Sartania, and sent them off to be tutored in Arcachon. When they returned 4 years later, he soon came to regret his decision.

Ake, and especially Xara, had inherited Paak's defiant nature and were no longer the grateful children he had raised. They had privately renounced their religion, and often acted completely in self interest—ignoring official events and insulting visiting dignitaries. Five months after her return to her father's region, Xara publicly denounced the religion of Sartania and insulted her father. Paak was forced to banish her from his region, and eventually she was not welcomed anywhere within the realm of Sartania. She fled to Archachon to pledge her sword, all the while trying to convince her brother to defect as well. Six months later, days before Ake and Xara's birthday, Paak was found dead in his chambers.

A knife had been thrust into Paak's chest, piercing his heart. According to the notes of his personal healer, the angle and precision of the mortal wound indicated that Paak had thrust the knife into his own chest. It was suicide. The healer soon disappeared, however, and his notes were reported as “lost.” The official word was that Paak had been murdered. Rumors that the lady Xara had been hiding within Sartania the whole time, and that it had been her hand behind the hilt of the knife, was amongst the most popular explanation for why Paak's murderer could not be found. The physician had been discredited many times on other causes of death, and many claim that he could be bought. The facts of Paak's murder or suicide remain a mystery.

Ake was deeply troubled by his father's death, and of the state of affairs in Sartania—the pointless crusades and the religious tension with the powerful neighboring realm of Arcachon. Adding insult to injury, another noble was placed in charge of his father's region, and Ake was demoted to infantry commander. Soon after, Ake received word from his sister who waited in Unotosa. Through their mutual friendship with the Shadow Clans, which had been cemented over the four years of their tutorship in Arcachon, Xara had established fealty. Though broken hearted at the death of his father's legacy and the Mustian name in Sartania, Ake marched 25 of his most loyal infantry into Arcachon to pledge himself to the realm.

The Mustian Family: Major Players

Ake Mustian

After his father's death, Ake became the patriarch of the Mustian family. While he is well educated and often can play the role of noble, his general personality is more peasant-like. He is often considered a prankster, a playboy and even a fool at times. He has a hard time living within his means and has a weakness for drink, gossip and rough, difficult women. Despite his more childish and troublesome characteristics, Ake is a dedicated warrior and infantry commander. His men tend to envy him and are more than willing to die for him. He is known for his impeccable word. One should never doubt any oath he has uttered, and though many who know him well don't like him or find him abrasive or rude, those who befriend him often find they have earn themselves a valuable life-long alley. Ake is a knight of Soniel and a noble of Enlod.

Xara Mustian

Though Xara Mustian was one of the most quiet and introspective children of Paak, chief of the Mustian tribe, she ultimately became one of the most infamous figures in it's history. After being banished by her own father from her homeland in Sartania, she became a knight and noble of Enlod and eventually convinced her brother Ake to defect along with her. While she is not as formidable a commander and warrior as Ake, she is still quite outstanding in combat, and is known for her peculiar, albeit effective, training tactics. She is also known as an information warrior, and has often sent spies and infiltrators into enemy territory under, what some may consider, detestable pretenses, in order to achieve her ends.

Xara has typically been a more stately, political-minded individual then her brother, Ake, and is usually much more cautious when it comes to her public persona, with only the occasional instance of bad-behavior. But recent events in Arcachon have made her somewhat of an infamous figure. She is rumored to be pregnant with a bastard child, and has been said to associate with Lady Fae of the Dodger Family, whose purpose and status in Arcachon still remains a mystery.

Laelia

While her blood origins are not well documented, Laelia was at least born into the warrior class of the Mustian tribe in rural Sartania where she was trained and ultimately participated in the pain ritual, making her an official warrior of the Mustian house. She ultimately left the Mustian army to serve the nobility. Laelia is the personal servant, scribe and bodyguard of Xara Mustian. While Xara has other servants to perform many of these tasks, Laelia is her eyes and ears of the realm and the two of them are very close. It is rumored that Laelia and Xara were involved romantically at one point, but even Xara's brother, Ake, one of Xara's closest confidants, is not entirely sure about the extent of Laelia's relationship with Xara. However, one should expect that anything Laelia witnesses can ultimately be whispered into Xara's eat, as the two are at least good friends and Xara gives Laelia free reign in terms of methodology of obtaining information. Some have said that Laelia once served in the chief's personal harem of an enemy's tribe at Xara's order and was able to obtain information pivotal to the Mustian war campaign, and ultimately assassinate the chief. When not at Xara's side, Laelia can often be found at The Red Smile, a small unmarked tavern found on the rougher side of Enlod where the doormen can be paid off with a few gold, but otherwise will rarely admit a new face. She is known to be incredibly manipulative and particularly vicious. Her true character is difficult to determine as she takes pride in playing various personae both in the name of the Mustian family and her own personal endeavors.

Note: Laelia is currently an RP character. She is not a playable character.
