Fellow Soldiers,

Lexis, Jumeaux, and Richard were in the Ruined Market District working alongside me to recover materials. I now head to my home to get some rest.

I do not know enough about anyone else to make a confident vote.

With the exception of Njal who stood outside my house guarding last night, I am not sure who else has stayed up and whether or not Njal is tired and will be resting. If he is not the pretender he will likely need to tonight. As will I.

I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that Oskar was at the very least a theif. So i was fine with casting my vote for him. I do not have enough evidence on anyone else to feel good about casting a vote.

I do not vote today.

The tide rises,

Tybalt Tideweaver

I have found more clues amongst the laboratory.

"The pretender grows stronger within its host, ultimately devouring them and requiring human sustenance to adapt further. Each pretender possesses unique abilities, emphasizing the need for caution when encountering unfamiliar ones."

It seems nighttime is the most dangerous and the pretender will strike soon, implying a "buddy" system might be a solution to sleeping at night.
I have an idea...

If we each pair with one person each to watch the other sleep.
If one person dies at night, we might know for sure it is NOT any of the sleepers, but one of the guards.
It might narrow down the list of possible pretenders...
Any of the sleepers proven innocent could then band together for a plan of action.

(Note this idea backfires if one of the sleepers is actually partnered with the pretender)

What is also unknown is if one guard is sufficient to guard or if we should be guarding with two-three members so that a single guard isn't overpowered...

Any other ideas?

Determined to uncover the truth, you make your way to the local graveyard and stand before Oskar's grave. With shovel in hand, you begin to dig, unearthing his lifeless form. Undeterred by his vacant gaze, you meticulously search Oskar's body for any hidden clues. To your surprise, you discover that Oskar had concealed valuable information deep within his garments. This revelation casts doubt on his identity as the pretender, for it seems unlikely that the creature could maintain its human form even beyond death. With the blood-soaked clues in your possession, you carefully lay Oskar to rest once more, knowing that the answers you seek lie elsewhere.

Driven by a desire to earn the trust of the locals, you offer your assistance and find yourself welcomed into their midst. As you work alongside them, you overhear their conversations about the recent execution, finding common ground in the shared experience of uncovering the pretender. Some of the locals, who once collaborated with Oskar, express their grief but quickly regain their composure. One of them approaches you, revealing the knowledge they had shared with Oskar. They speak of a wandering witch who periodically visits the village, offering not only sustenance but also magical artifacts for those in need. Known for her wisdom, the witch has aided the locals in deciphering clues and identifying pretenders in the past. The notion arises that you should bring your gathered clues to her, should you amass enough. Alas, the exact timing of her next visit remains uncertain, leaving you to ponder the path ahead.

You can always choose to do one of the special actions over your regular night actions(for soldiers). Choose one of the following abilities(Pretender Lv2):

1.Face-Shifting: The ability of face shifting allows you to assume the appearance of anyone you have encountered throughout the day. By adopting their visage, you can blend seamlessly among others. 2.Enhanced night vision: Darkness will no longer impede your sight, allowing you to navigate and perceive your surroundings with ease.
3.Enhanced Strength: Bestows upon you unparalleled power, capable of overpowering even the most well-armed soldier.(Lowers the efficiency of Well-Armed Trait)
4.Continue your transformation: Embrace your true form at night, relinquishing your human guise and tapping into your immense power, surpassing the feeble capabilities of these mortal beings.

Current Abilities(You need to successfully hunt a soldier in order to gather enough essence to change one of these):

The buddy system works for me, but i do have different approaches that come to mind. As we would needfully risk our protectors if pretenders were to be aware of our plans, we need only gather in larger numbers to fix this problem. rather than willingly share our sleeping and protecting duty openly rather we should instead take note as Tybalt has done for us in his recent letter, of who is so tired that they will be falling into a deep sleep tonight, and as such be pray for those with the keen eyes of a pretender. Rather than declaring who we will defend we need only let the dice roll and fall as they may, by choosing to protect a known sleeper in a semi random fashion. I propose that if we are looking to sleep we declare it! and if we are looking to defend we simply choose a name of our own choosing of someone known to be sleeping! in this way we gain a good amount of information while still not being to open and obvious about our whereabouts. I have been sleeping soundly as it felt safe enough to do so so I am going to offer to protect one of my choosing tonight! With hopes some of you will also be there and we will have greater numbers than we would with a 1on1 buddy system! it will be easy enough in the morning to see who protected who. This plan may not be fool proof and it does have its flaws, but those flaws are holes that we could fill as required!

Ill continue by pointing out a flaw that comes to mind. What if our would be assailant gets really smart on us and refuses to attack both protectors nor sleepers! The risk is great for him and he would be a fool to take such chances, Thus he goes for the quite sleeper! he counts as he watches and waits for what he alone determines to be a sneaking sleeper! one who attempts to sleep in peace yet not declare it! well worry not for even this method of attack is not without risk to the pretender, for we who are protectors have not declared who we will be protecting! among us might also be would be sleet counters such as Sir Tybalt the most keenly aware of sleep member of our group thus far! It need not be Tybalt, how about we use Njal for our example of the man who has noticed that perhaps I Lexis am to tired to actively protect anyone tonight, and that i must sleep this night instead yet do not feel like it is safe to declare my sleeping, he notices this and chooses to protect me silently or mayhaps with personal communication via a letter of confidence. As you can see in my method 1 if three things happen in this scenario, A. the attack happens and only Njal is there and is attacked alone by the pretender and by all accounts killed, B. a second soldier by pure chance arrives on the same night and the two of them wound or kill the Pretender, C. Lexis who is sleeping decided to stay up and fake his sleep notices Njals plight and comes out the door and as in Letter B the two of them defeat the Pretender.

As you can clearly see i have not worked out every possible angle of attack nor defense, but i do feel this system provides a lot more ambiguity to our actions allowing us to fight what would normally be an unwinnable fight with greater odds of survival than we might normally have. I do think this is a much harder and more coordinated action that we might achieve yet if we had a lack of communication problem we could actually work that to our advantage just as easily as if we were in full communication, because so far the only thing we really know about who the pretender is is that it is not Oskar, and that who ever it is they are going to be sharp one way or another.

Your ears perk up as you hear the reverberating sounds of loud banging in the distance, disrupting the serenity of the night. Astonished, you find it hard to believe that someone would engage in construction work during the nighttime hours. The unexpected clamor raises questions about the purpose and urgency behind such nocturnal activities, leaving you curious and intrigued by the mysterious endeavor unfolding under the cover of darkness.
