🌞Day 16 - Day Phase(1/2) - 3/13 soldiers remaining

Today is likely to be the final day, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Either the soldiers will succeed in eliminating the pretender, or the pretender will emerge victorious. Therefore, it is crucial that you choose your actions wisely, as it is improbable that another day will be granted. Best of luck to you all!

  1. 💰Visit the Traveling Witch: If you have clues, it is time to use them.
  2. View the final message(Njal or Tybalt): Both Njal and Tybalt left their final messages at separate locations, giving you the option to choose which one to read.

🌞 With a sense of trepidation, you make your way to Tybalt's house to uncover his dying message. The atmosphere is heavy with anticipation as you step inside, the memories of his menacing presence lingering in the air. You navigate around his house, searching for any sign or clue left behind by Tybalt.

Finally, you stumble upon a hidden compartment, cleverly concealed within the walls. Inside, you find a small parchment. As you carefully unfold it, the words penned by Tybalt come into view.

Moria, Rojak,

Last night I slept in Jumeaux's house, as I had the key for it from Richard after he passed. During the night, the Pretender assaulted the house, intent to kill me and see this job done.

I am setting aside all past instincts for trust as they have clearly led me astray. One of you has to have been cursed and not healed by the talismans. I wish to find out who it was by the safest most effective manner. I am going to the palace to visit the witch today. In doing this I can assure whichever of you is the Pretender cannot set upon me, as we have established that the Witches sanctum repels the Pretender. I higly encourage whichever of you is human still to also come to the sanctum so I can witness you are in fact a human being and we can know together who the Pretender is.

🌞 Filled with a mix of anticipation and concern, you and Moria venture deeper into the palace, encountering a bewildering phenomenon of shifting walls and undulating floors. The disorienting experience sends you both tumbling, only to find yourselves separated upon regaining your footing. You quickly survey your surroundings, realizing you are now standing before a set of ornate doors that beckon you to enter.

Curiosity getting the better of you, you cautiously step forward and push open the doors. The room that unfolds before your eyes exudes an ageless charm, its furnishings and decor standing as testaments to the passage of time. As you take in the beauty of the room, a figure gracefully rises from the center, instantly recognizable as the traveling witch. Draped in an intricate white robe, she extends a welcoming gesture, inviting you to join her.

Taking a seat across from her, you watch as the clues and valuables you collected are drawn from your possession, floating effortlessly into her hands. With a keen gaze, she meticulously examines the clues, delving into their hidden depths while pocketing the valuables for safekeeping.

As the witch meticulously examines the clues, she inquires about your companion, Moria. Surprisingly, she reveals that she was unable to see Moria's presence, sensing only your arrival. It perplexes her, hinting at Moria's ability to conceal herself from the witch's magic. The witch explains that the magical magnifying glass, an artifact in your possession, would prove ineffective against Moria's powerful concealment.

While discussing Moria, the witch completes her analysis of the clues. She conveys the challenging nature of the pretender's elusive activities, making it difficult for her to discern its current whereabouts and actions. However, she deduces from the clues that the pretender aided you in defeating the original pretender before acquiring a means to circumvent her magical insights. Furthermore, she reveals that the pretender has recently visited both the locals and the palace, emphasizing the urgency of your mission.

With a foreboding warning, the witch cautions that failure to find the pretender before nightfall may jeopardize your survival. She bestows her wishes of luck upon you as you prepare to depart her presence. As you leave the room, you glimpse the witch readying herself for departure as well, realizing that this may be your final encounter with her.

🌞 As you and Galandric venture deeper into the palace, the once-sturdy walls begin to shift and the ground undulates beneath your feet. The disorienting chaos throws both of you off balance, causing you to stumble and be tossed about. When the unsettling movements cease, you find yourself separated from Galandric, left to explore your surroundings alone.

In this newfound solitude, you enter a vast chamber adorned with countless portraits. The flickering glow of your torch casts an eerie light upon the paintings, revealing a collection of regal figures. Each portrait features a pair—a male and a female—depicting kings and queens, with their striking beauty captured in oil and canvas. However, it is the eyes of the queens that draw your attention, as they bear a striking resemblance to those of the traveling witch.

A realization dawns upon you—the women depicted in the portraits are likely the ancestors of the witch, sharing the same mesmerizing gaze. Curiosity drives you forward, examining each portrait, tracing the lineage of these beautiful women. Your journey through the gallery culminates with the final painting, veiled by a small curtain. With a cautious hand, you draw back the fabric, revealing a scene that unsettles you to your core.

In the concluding portrait, a white beast with piercing purple eyes stands amidst the assembled men from the previous paintings. The juxtaposition of the elegant figures and the haunting presence of the creature sends a chill down your spine. No matter how far you step back, the eyes of the beast seem to follow, their gaze locked upon you with an uncanny intensity. Disquieted by the disconcerting revelation, you swiftly retreat from the room, eager to leave the palace behind.

Emerging from the palace's confines, you find solace in the familiar surroundings outside. The unsettling encounter within the chamber of portraits lingers in your mind, leaving you with unanswered questions about the witch's origins and her connection to the mysterious beast. With the palpable sense of unease still lingering, you make your way back, resolving to focus on the final hunt.

(ooc: From Galandric. He sent it to me on discord)

Rojak,

I went to the palace today with Moria and some revelations came to light. Like Tybalt, Moria seemed unable to enter the Witches Sanctum, and what-more the witch identified that Moria is in some way magically changing her identity. She told me that the Pretender is one who helped me in defeating the old Pretender, but that since that time something has changed, and she concluded her hints by letting me know that the Pretender has recently visited the palace and the locals. I had to trade a great deal of clues and valuables I received from Richard upon executing him yesterday to get this information, but with it I am convinced Moria is the Pretender, or at least whoever is currently wearing her guise is. I beseech you to vote with me against her.

Comrades,

I have recovered from my wounds and can once again speak for myself. I am afraid I must voice a vote against my long time confidant in this city, Moria. She did accompany me to the palace as she has said, but she did not meet with the witch as she says. The Witch told me that she was unable to detect Moria's presence at all, that he has some manner of magical effect over her that made her undetectable by the witch. This does not align with her account of having met the witch and recharged her amulet. It is for these reasons I have to assume Moria has in fact somehow become the new Pretender.

Further clues the Witch gave me included that the pretender aided me in defeating the original pretender before acquiring a means to circumvent her magical insights, and that the pretender has recently visited both the locals and the palace. Moria did definitely help in the locating and execution of Tybalt. I had assumed from that point she could not be cursed, as she had held both the Sun and Moon talismans prior to Tybalt's execution. It occurs to me though that she did not necessarily need to don these talismans herself when she gave them out, meaning if she had been cursed previously she could have remained cursed up until Tybalts death and become the new Pretender then.

Overall I would say either Rojak or Moria could be the Pretender, but this most recent trip to the Palace revealed it almost certainly is Moria. She was unable to visit the witch just as Tybalt had been when he was Pretender, she lied about the circumstance and claimed she saw the witch when the witch said he had not, the Witch has identified her as having a special disguising magic over her, and the witch identified the pretender has recently visited the palace which Moria has in fact done with me today.

Rojak I encourage you to join me in voting for Moria. If I were the Pretender I could just vote with Moria to eliminate you, however I am not. If we do not come together today Moria will kill whichever of us remains and claim this city for herself.

You decide to use the final charge on your magical magnifying glass to peer into Rojak's secrets. As you raise the glass and activate it, a low humming sound emanates, and you focus its lens on Rojak. Through the glass, nothing peculiar catches your eye except his shattered moon trinket, which sparks memories of your lost sun trinket.

The magnifying glass hones in on the shattered trinket, scrutinizing it intensely, and suddenly, a flurry of strange images floods your mind. You witness a night when Rojak stealthily approached Moria's house, evidently planning an ambush. The images reveal a thunderstorm raging, mirroring the events of that fateful night. As Rojak drew nearer to Moria's residence, his trinket began to flicker ominously, with each flicker unveiling the familiar black mist seeping out of Moria's home.

The trinket's flickering intensified as Rojak stood mere steps away from Moria's door. Then, with an explosive burst, the trinket shattered, forcibly propelling Rojak backward. The images come to an abrupt halt, and you are jolted back to reality. The gem on your magnifying glass glows dimmer, indicating the loss of its power.

(Magical Magnifying Glass now has no charge left)

Interesting choice Galandric,

On my visit to the witch she told me I didn't have enough clues for insights about the pretender. Since you gave me your clues to learn about Tybalt, might in enquire as to where you found clues enough, 10 I believe to gather such information about the pretender? You didn't visit Tybalt's body, and by your very admission you've been sleeping quite a bit. I will admit that my suspicions were on Rojak, but your lies have changed my mind on this. Good story though.

I gathered the clues from Richard after his execution yesterday. I traded away ten clues and 5 valuables I received from his body to the witch to learn these secrets. Speaking of which...

Also among the possessions Richard left behind was a magical lens with one charge that would reveal the truth of a person. The Witch told me the magic surrounding Moria was too powerful for the lens to see through, so I instead used it on Rojak to see if it revealed any hints that I may be mistaken about him not being the Pretender. It showed Rojak had nothing to hide, but also revealed an event of the past surrounding his talisman. Sometime in the past Rojak was going to attack Moria, but as he approached her abode dark mist poured out and surrounded Rojak, causing his talisman to be destroyed. I know for a fact from when I was cursed that the black mist is the medium through which the Pretender inflicts it's next victim with the curse. My guess is this event occurred the night before last after we had executed Tybalt, and that while Moria had claimed to have been cursed that night she had in fact sent the curse after Rojak to destroy his protective talisman.

Rojak, I must beseech you again that Moria is the Pretender. Vote with me against her so we can both survive.

🎫Day 16 - Voting Result

Galandric - Moria

Moria - Galandric

Rojak - Galandric

The tension rises as each member reveals the name of their suspicion. As soon as the names are spoken, Moria and Rojak pounce on Galandric, swiftly subduing him for an execution that quickly follows. Galandric, desperately attempting to convince Rojak of his innocence, resists until the very end, but alas, it is not enough to halt his fate. With Galandric's demise, Rojak and Moria share a triumphant smile, believing they have finally defeated the pretender.

However, their sense of triumph is short-lived. As Rojak approaches Galandric's lifeless body to retrieve his belongings, Moria places her hand on Rojak's shoulder, turning him slowly towards her. When Rojak meets her gaze, he finds Moria's once familiar eyes now glowing with an eerie yellow hue. A chilling smile spreads across her face, unnaturally stretching her mouth from ear to ear. Her teeth elongate and sharpen, while her nails follow suit, becoming dangerous claws. Her body becomes enveloped in the dark, flowing hair that Rojak knows all too well.

In an instant, the pretender stands before Rojak, mocking him with laughter at his failure to discern the true identity. Rojak, rendered helpless, falls to his knees, knowing his fate is sealed. This marks the end of Rojak's story, as the pretender emerges victorious and unmasked, ready to continue its sinister reign.
