Part 4: The Interesting Demonstration

(Roleplay from Irdys Galeheart)

Irdys smiled slightly at the weaponmasters words, before giving a slight nod. Her eyes followed the weaponmasters moves carefully as she said;

"Of course" Adding swiftly; "I deal death only to monsters and undead Sir, and the blade is too fine to be wasted on the likes of them."

Nodding wordlessly, the man picked up the blade with an obvious sense of reverence, or perhaps marvel would be a better word. He held it up in front of him in his right hand and stared up and down the length of the blade's edge, noting its fine, straight quality, with the exception of the slight, and barely noticeable, protrusions of the gemstone-letters. Then the weapons-master stepped back from the table and turned to swing the blade in several slicing motions to test the weight. The sword felt heavier than the usual longsword, but that only made its downward arc all the swifter, as its weight carried it forth with ease.

Turning to a battered chain mail torso armour, which was in need of repairs and resting at the moment upon a wooden dummy, the man rotated his right shoulder to loosen it up a bit before hefting the blade and bringing it down upon his target. Almost effortlessly, the sword cleaved a clear line through the chain mail, separating the links in its path and even managing to lightly scratch the wood beneath! A soldier gasped at the sight, while the weapons-master snorted and eyed the blade with new respect.

Then, he moved over to a relatively repaired steel breastplate and swung again. This time, metal screeched upon metal, and the hardy steel plate held its ground, but not without damage. The blade had left a clearly visible dent running diagonally down the upper section. Snorting again, the weapons-master brought the edge of the blade up for closer inspection. Turning it this way and that way, he shook his head slowly in wonder. Normally, a blade would show a minor blemish to the trained eye after forcibly encountering armour plate, but this one's edge appeared as sharp as before, with no visible damage to the man's very trained eye. In addition, a regular longsword would likely have left nothing more than a scratch, as opposed to the impressive dent left by the Nightblade.

In the hands of a fine swordsman, this blade would wreak havoc indeed. Which, he thought, probably meant that the previous owner was not a fine swordsman. The weapons-master gently placed the sword back upon the table and nodded to the adventurer.

"I do believe this blade will interest His Grace, and I will personally inform him of my observations come the morrow. Have you found lodgings in the city yet? If not, you may stay in the palace's guardhouse or stable, which would probably be a better idea anyway, with such a valuable item in your possession."

He noticed the commoner's wary and possibly nervous demeanor and added, "Rest assured, for no harm will come to you if you decide to remain on the grounds."
