Guilt

"Watch out, Si - AAARGH"

"Give us what you owe us, boy!"

"Please, Sir, wake up..."

Jacelyn was surrounded by faces, blurred and unrecognisable, yet not unknown to him.

"You are no true commander!"

Suddenly the faces disappeared, except for two, which he recognised immediately. His young Will, his squire, a mere boy, smiled and looked into Jacelyn's eyes.

But the voice, the terrible voice! Rodric, that traitorous bastard towered above Will, holding him by his hair. He reached to his belt, drew his dagger, his hand slowly approaching the boy's neck.

Jacelyn shouted, screamed, cried, tried to reach them, stop Rodric's hand, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't win. The faster he ran, the further away the two were, with evil demonic laughter echoing through the fog.

His legs failed him and Jacelyn fell on the ground, watching the scene, unable to act. The dagger carved a new smile in Will's throat, wide, bloody, all while the boy silently looked into Jacelyn's eyes.

"Please, Sir, wake up..."

His lips spoke, but the voice didn't belong to him. His eyes lost their glow, his arms dropped by his sides, but the body continued to stand up right, piercing Jacelyn with its empty eyes.

Rodric suddenly turned into the fog and disappeared, leaving frightened Jacelyn alone with Will's body. The fog thickened and moved closer, surrounding both.

As a lighting out of clear sky, crippling pain ran through Jacelyn's body. Rodric's dagger appeared from his body, piercing him all the way through. He felt the man's breath on his neck, he heard him gasp, but he couldn't see him.

"Enough of your promises."

A quiet whisper echoed throught the fog and something shoved Jacelyn's forward. The ground disappeared and the young knight was falling into the endless abyss, full of darkness and despair.

A loud bang woke him up as well as dull pain all over his body, returning him back to the overworld and next to his bed, from which he just fell. Pouring himself a glass of wine, Jacelyn opened the window and looked out into the night. He had more than enough time, for he will not be able to sleep again tonight.
