Elemental Scroll of the Damned

Found by Charlotte Grancourt on 11th May, after a Sage used Wyvern Scales and Moonstone to create it. Was made in Pates (Far East Island). Giving bearer +1 prestige.

The Making of the Scroll

Charlotte had been doing her usual hunting expedition for the delights of the mountains in Pates.
There were never many monsters or undead to be found here. She guessed the beasts don't like the rocks much, and the fact that there are less people here than usual. The view from the cliffs at the coast is amazing though, well worth the trek to see.

As she rounded a rock, searching for valuables dropped amongst the rubbles of battles ages old she came upon a small cave, with a fire burning at the entrance, and a very old, wise looking man sitting huddled over its warmth. Standing up straight, Charlotte brushed her brown hair out of her face and walked purposefully towards the fire.

Before she reached the entrance, the man turned to her and exclaimed:
"A VISION, THEY ARE HERE...THE DAMNED..."
Charlotte looked bewildered, and paused in her tracks. The man continued to speak:
"I hear them...go away i tell you! GO NOW!"
As the old man stared insanely at Charlotte, a chill ran down her spine, making her turn around but nothing was there.
"You, girl...do you have a Moonstone and some Wyvern Scales? If you do, i can control the damned so they do not appear and give you the strength in battle."
"ummm..." was all Charlotte could manage.
"GO NOW! BEFORE THEY COME!" The man screamed at her, and Charlotte fled. Rounding the corner she bumped into her friend Primus, knocking some scales out of his backpack...the Wyvern Scales the old man had shouted about.

Stooping down to pick up the black diamond shaped scales, Charlotte gave Primus a quick kiss on the cheek, leaving him stunned, and ran back towards the old man, not believing her luck! As she ran, she reached into her bulging rucksack to rummage for the moonstone she kept in her gempouch somewhere near the bottom of the bag.

As she rounded the same rock, she saw the man still huddled over his small fire, still talking to himself, still rocking on his knees.
This time she made her presence known by announcing that she had the two items he wanted. But the man did not turn around. Instead, he took out a parchment of paper and began mumbling soft words under his breath, scribbling things down onto the paper with his finger.
Without looking at Charlotte, he took the items from her outstretched hands and threw them in the fire, holding the parchment over the flames.

Charlotte watched in amazement as writing began to appear on the paper, and before it caught fire, the sage handed her the parchment without another word.

Grasping the steaming paper, Charlotte ran from the cave. Finding a safe spot away from anywhere remotely civilised she glanced down at the purple ink on the parchment and could not make head nor tail of the words...if only she knew how to read...

The Letter to the Nobles

I have recently acquired a unique item.

The sage who wrote it told me that it is very valuable. He calls it the Elemental Scroll of the Damned. The only problem is, that i can't read it - as i never learned to read. So i was wondering if you could pass the message on to the nobles under your command, that there is an Adventurer currently in pates with a Unique item to sell.

I am trying to find the necessary items the sage requires to improve the quality of his work. But he is asking for a Murder Knife, and i don't have a clue where i could find one of those.
The scroll isn't in that good condition, and he told me that some of the writing might be a bit wrong and urged me to find the knife so he could read the transcription on the hilt to add to a vital bit of the text.

If any of you know anywhere i could obtain such a weapon, i would be very grateful - and i'm sure the buyer of the scroll would also.

For now i will keep my whereabouts safe, so that i am sure nobody will come looking for me in the dead of the night when my eyes are closed wielding a murder knife...hmmm on second thoughts, maybe that's a good plan?!

Anyway, if you would be so kind as to enquire whether anyone is interested, i would be most grateful.

Charlotte.

A Letter to a Noble Passing By

Humble Skylark,

Would you be interested in buying my unique scroll? Apparently the Elemental Scroll of the Damned will enable the reader to feel more godly in battle, and take more hits before they fall.

But unfortunately, i am unable to read the writing, and i wondered if you might wish to purchase this obviously very important artifact from me?

If you are interested, then name your price!

Charlotte.

(Still no reply!)

A Potential Buyer

After putting out a sign on the road just outside Topenah (Ethialia), Charlotte found a noble who seemed interested in her item. She then began to tell him how she came about the scroll:

"The sage who wrote it told me that it is very valuable. He calls it the Elemental Scroll of the Damned. The only problem is, that i can't read it - as i never learned to read. So i was wondering if there was any nobles who could read that might find it of some use.

I have managed to find a sage (twice) who asked for more items to improve the quality of the previous sage's work. I had to give up two Wolf's hides in order for them to improve the work, but apparently the scrollnow reads more fluently. The scroll is in good condition as i have kept it very safe, despite the sage telling me that some of the writing might be a bit wrong. One of the sages also used some inscription on the hilt of a knife, so it sounds like important stuff

The sage who wrote the scroll, said that whoever owns the Elemental Scroll of the Damned will feel more godly in battle, and take more hits before they fall. They will also gain more prestige amongst their peers for owning such an item. I just wish i could read these scribbles he has written on it.

Are you still interested in this item?"

The Scroll is Sold

Charlotte had only been in the huge city of Remton for a couple of days, but already she had attracted the interests of a few nobles with important rank. One such noble was a man called Gervase Arindal who was very interested in one of the items Charlotte had in her possession. She had already sold her brooch to the Queen of Arcaea and would now be getting another good deal on this scroll she couldn't read.

Gervase agreed to her price of 10 gold and a recommendation, and Charlotte was now on her way to becoming a noble if she so wished.
