Dwilight/Fissoa/Green Maurauders
Roleplay by Balewin Duckmane, Knight of Drowenton
The healer was puttering around Balewin's tent, looking for more cloth with which to make bandages. The blood had ceased it's flowing from Balewin's arm for the time being, but neither man was confident that it would remain that way for long. Balewin had more scars from the beasts than he could count and they always seemed to take longer to heal than normal.
Outside were the two men that hadn't been killed in the fighting, Captain Adric, who had foolishly led the charge that morning, and a boy named Sam who somehow managed to make it out of the battle with only minor wounds. To hear Sam tell it, he had taken down 3 beasts on his own before he was knocked unconcious. Sam had recovered his lute from the supply wagons and was playing an old tune that Balewin didn't recognize.
Balewin was that strange mix of exhausted and excited. It had been a thrilling victory, desipte the losses, and he couldn't wait to get back to Fissoa to raise a new group of men to do it over again. When he heard Lord Skyndarbau's distinctive voice approaching his tent he jumped up with a wince from his bed and went out to greet him.
"Well met, my liege! Quite the day for a slaying!" Skyndarbau looked distant for a moment, as if remembering something. "If it please you, sit by my fire and let me introduce you to Captain Adric and Sam. They are what remains of the Green Marauders."
Pleasantries and small tales of the battle were exchanged. Sam's story had grown to include a fourth beast to die at his hands. Then he picked up his lute and begin to sing a new song he had written.
Twas summer and the wheat was grown
but the farmhands were not to be found
For Kamade it let out a terrible groan
As the beast trampled over the ground
They came like they did in the past
like Maf and Maraba before
to feed on Fissoan men and girls to the last
but what a surprise they had in store
We are Green Marauders and we ain't going back
We're the strong, the skilled and the brave
On the fields of Kamade we will slay the whole pack
Or our quest will take us to our grave
The order to charge it was giv'n
And Balewin's Marauders they ran
Far faster than any Fissonan had seen
And these were the words that they sang
We are Green Marauders and we ain't going back
We're the strong, the skilled and the brave
On the fields of Kamade we will slay the whole pack
Or our quest will take us to our grave
The battle was heated and fierce
Swords tangled with claws sharp as knives
The flesh of evil by daggers was pierced
'for the rest of the army arrived
They fought through until evening was nigh
And the blood of the beast soaked the field
The Fissoans let out their victory cry
But Marauders, to death did they yield.
We are Green Marauders and we ain't going back
We're the strong, the skilled and the brave
On the fields of Kamade we will slay the whole pack
Or our quest will take us to our grave
Now children of Kamade don't you hide
When you hear the beast on his way
For the ghostly Marauders will be by your side
On the winds you still hear them say
We are Green Marauders and we ain't going back
We're the strong, the skilled and the brave
On the fields of Kamade we will slay the whole pack
Or our quest will take us to our grave''
Balewin clapped his hand loudly after the song. Impressed at the boys skills and flattered that anyone would write a song about him or his men. He made a note to keep an eye on the boy, perhaps even given him employment in his retinue.
As Sam began another tune, Balewin turned to Skyndarbau, "The three of us wounded Marauders have a long way back to Fissoa ahead of us, but before we go I had hoped to speak to you more about how I can be of assistance to you as Treasurer. Perhaps the army could do without a noble who can't follow orders for a time? It is good that we have all finally dealt a good blow to the enemy and we will certainly need more funding for our continued efforts." He looked at Skyndarbau expectantly.
