Koolaris
Koolaris
Koolaris is a land of broad plains, open skies, and varied coastline. Nestled between the northern ocean and the southern hills, the region enjoys fertile soil and a mild climate. The Coast is a mixture of cliffs, long sandy beaches, and small fishing ports located in sheltered coves. The region sits away from the most traveled routes in the north, so trade only makes up a small part of the local economy. The true wealth of Koolaris lies in its extensive farming and fishing industries. The locals are mostly farmers or fishermen. They tend to be insular, but friendly enough once their trust is earned. As a border region, koolaris has changed hands many times and the people tend to leave politics to the nobles, paying their taxes to whoever is in charge at the time.
One notable feature of Koolaris is its long history of settlement dating back to prehistoric times. The region was once the center of a thriving stone age culture, as evidenced by the many burial mounds and stone circles dotting the landscape. These stones are called "Sarstans" by the modern day inhabitants, and old word meaning "Hard Stones". The locals have no fear of the Sarstans, believing them to be of good omen and guardians of the land. They have been incorporated into the local culture and many quasi pagan rites are conducted around them by the villagers of Koolaris.
