Little is known about the mysterious daemon force known to humans as the Blackdawn Covenant. Appearing for the first time in the mountain of Drenga on the continent of the Colonies, they have since fortified it as their permanent home. Rumors swirled, suggesting that they arrived from the Netherworld through some kind of portal, and that this portal has since closed.

The first to encounter the Blackdawn reported that they did not speak the language of men, but instead spoke a daemonic language never heard before. Communication was difficult, but after first contact it became clear that Blackdawn had come to the continent fleeing a formidable threat within the Netherworld, a force they called "Deathwalker." The rise of this "Deathwalker" posed an existential danger to all daemons, leading to unprecedented devastation among the clans. To confront this menace, the Blackdawn Covenant was established as a unified front against Deathwalker. The alliance was the brainchild of Verterex, the strongest warlord from the most powerful clan, Nightflame. Recognizing that no single clan could withstand Deathwalker alone, Verterex called upon the other clans to unite. The Covenant's name originates from a gathering place called Blackdawn, where the daemons assembled to formalize their alliance.

Verterex and the other Daemons eventually captured the Halcyon priest Caravanthian Arylon, mistaking the Sacris Incendium faith as daemon worship, and kept him prisoner, torturing him and forcing him to teach the daemons the words of humans. This allowed them to communicate with the humans, albeit in a crude, broken manner.

Soon it became apparent that the Covenant was searching for something. They had apparently ventured into the human world to not only escape Deathwalker, but also to search for ancient artifacts believed to possess the power to defeat him. The most coveted of these is the Shadowcore Scepter. The Covenant began demanding the human realms turn over the Scepter and other artifacts that they claim were left over from a time daemons lived on the continent now known as the Colonies, thousands of years ago.
