Desperate for work, Alkador traveled to Shinnen and traveled the surrounding lands for months, killing off small groups of monsters and undead. His campaign in Garuck Udor was a very successful one, slaying three groups of foul beasts without pause. Deciding to hunt down the remaining beasts, Alkador was beset by a fourth, larger band led by a huge monster. After slaying the beast and scattering its smaller kin he was free to loot their cave, finding a handful of coins and amongst it, the Brilliant Ring.
