Letter from Ilya Bluelake

Personal message to Willem Tinsley

My love,

I know you are quite busy in your office today, so I am writing you a letter while the children play in our garden. Two things came up, which I would like to share with you and consult you about.

The first is quite simple, but interesting. I have this cousin, which is a fine man, not much older than ourselves, called Marcus. He is somewhat distant, but I believe you might have seen him quickly in one of our family reunions. Marcus is not the one to inherit his family estate, but has made a good name for his character, and a good life for himself as a horse merchant. He is courteous and calm. And he approached my mother willing to know if she knew of a woman that might be interested in becoming his wife, to share the lonely days. Now, my beloved, you might start to see what I am aiming at... but wait. We have a long time friend, who has always been loyal, who has also been loving of our family and our children, and whose family gave us shelter when we needed so much. She is lonely, sometimes, but also independent, who wouldn't want to join a man whose name would be more uttered than hers, or so I believe. Knowing them both, I believe they would get along finely. So, what would you think of helping me in a little scheme of inviting Chi and Marcus over for dinner tonight?

As for the second thing... I had a dream. A very confusing dream, but in which I think I saw the sign of the Saints you respect so much. Thus, I would also like to invite the Priest that is in Barad Gardor for dinner tonight. I would meet with him first to discuss the dream, and when you arrive from your office we could all gather on the garden table to eat.

Oh, Willem... I hope I don't sound like those wives that do not have enough to do with their time and start to imagine all sorts of things to occupy it with. Send me a word if you need help in your duties. Even if you don't, maybe I can bring you some lemonades and flowers to brighten your day. Or some Alice.

Always yours,

Ilya Bluelake (Royal)

Personal message to Chi Motosuwa

Lady Chi,

How would you like to meet Willem and I for dinner tonight? It should be a small thing, but I have a cousin coming to visit, and a Warrior Saint's Priest, so it would be good to also have an old friend to join this jolly group.

Oh, Gavin is by my side and sends you his finest regards! His own words.

Take care,

Ilya Bluelake (Royal)

Queen Ilya,

It is good to hear from you and know that you are well. I will say that it is luck that I happened to arrived in Barad Gardor no less than three days ago. So I will be happy to join your dinner and stay in the capitol for a few days more. I know there is much for us to catch up on and I am sure that the children have grown, so it will be a great suprise to see them. It will also be nice to meet members of your family, I do not think that I have met any of them as of yet.

In service to her royalness,

Chi Motosuwa Marchioness of Elroth

Please forgive me but I forgot to ask, if a Priest of the Warrior Saint's will be attending the dinner what is the proper attire?

Lady Chi,

The attire should be nothing besides the usual. The Warrior Saints preach simplicity, and this particular priest is very pleasant to be around.

Yours,

The meeting with the Priest

Ilya's invitation

Priest Johann's sermon

Johann, a senior priest of The Way of the Warrior Saints, comes to your place in response to the invitation you sent to him earlier, delivering you a private sermon:

The man who arrived for dinner was barefoot and clothed in a simple brown woolen robe, tied at the waist with three interwoven hempen ropes. The only decoration he bore was a plain amulet circular amulet embedded with three common river stones. He bowed graciously and with a habit of court as he was introduced.

Sister Ilya, I am honored to accept your invitation and speak on the Way of the Warrior Saints. Though my words are truth as I know it, there are as many Warrior Saints as there are stars in the sky and no man or woman may know all their secrets.

For many years, I myself was a stalwart consecrated paladin of the Venerist church -- dedicated to war and the Ancestors. In time, however, I began to realize that the things I saw in the world, the gathering of crows before war, the singing dirge of the wind across a battlescarred plain, or the pungent smoke of burning homesteads -- all of these things were guided by an invisible hand. It wasn't until I witnessed three crows fly toward me and circle my head, cawing and croaking until I followed them to a clearing with three standing stones that I knew something was afoot.

Fresh from battle myself, I fasted at the foot of those stones and awoke with crow caws transformed to the words of the Dirge of the Doomed ringing in my ears. It was my first step into a larger world. I asked many about this, but it wasn't until I learned of the Way of the Warrior Saints that it became clear.

It is said that all may know the Way of the Warrior Saints by the sign of the three grey stones upon a circle of earth -- valor, diligence, and prudence.

It is upon these simple stones that the teachings of the saints rest, and where we give our sermons.

Unlike some faiths, the Way of the Warrior Saints is intensely personal -- each man, woman, or child may form an individual bond with one or more Saints who may provide guidance, warnings, omens, or even humorous anecdotes. Sometimes the Saints manifest themselves physically, other times merely as strange omens or portents, and yet other times as a remembered snippet of song which is from a time long lost to memory.

It is not my place to tell others what they may Witness of the Warrior Saints -- I can only help people make sure that they keep their eyes, ears, and hearts open for the signs when they are given.

If you feel you have been moved by a Warrior Saint, Sister Ilya, I would be happy to help you interpret the signs.

His piece said, the man bowed his head in solemn prayer, mumbling words to a haunting yet somehow comforting chant. You also invite him to stay for a dinner later, out of the proper etiquette. If you feel your heart has been touched by his words, you may make a donation and convert into his faith.
