Arcaea/Library/History/A Summary of Arcaean History up to June 1st 1010

Many years ago, the Far East was divided into two great Empires. Arcaea held the North, and Svunnetland in the South. But, as such things do, the Empires collapsed, wracked by rebellions, secessions, wars, famines, etc. After a period of great chaos, matters in the North stabilized with the Kingdom of Arcaea holding Remton, Nocaneb and Saex under the rule of Queen Trinity. Arcaea was part of the Northern Alliance with Lasanar (where Ohnar West and part of Cathay are now), Ethiala (where the western half of Arcaea is now) and Sartania. Arcachon and Sartania were locked in their unending religious wars (both being Theocracies of a militant sort), and eventually Queen Trinity, with the concurrence of the few remaining Arcaeans declared that in exchange for badly needed food Arcaea would enter the war against Sartania on the side of the Arcachonians. If you hear Arcaeans referred to as "mercenaries", this is why.

For breaking the alliance as well as issues regarding the rightful ownership of Lasop, Ethiala declared war on Arcaea, and Cathay and Lasanar intermittently aided Ethiala. Dissension broke out between Ethiala and Sartania over dividing the spoils of war, and after we had been pushed back to Remton and a badly-ravaged Saex, Ethiala switched sides, and began a war in earnest against Lasanar. Even with this, the war went poorly, until Lasanar fragmented into several secessionist states which sued for peace and Ethiala sent troops to our aid. Eventually, we clawed our way to victory against Sartania, taking back all of our territory and three regions besides, until Cathay warned us that if we continued they would intervene, and we were not ready for another two front war.

Peace was agreed to (save for Arcachon and Sartania who continued fighting) and we rebuilt and recovered, but the issue of Lasop festered, and it (and the personal enmity between myself and the Ruler of Ethiala one Keffer Leonidas) sparked hostilities between Arcaea and Ethiala. At the same time, Ethiala had invaded Papania (one of the realms seceded from Lasanar) to take a badly-needed farmland, which sparked Papania and Ohnar West declaring against Ethiala. Cathay and Aenilia joined the war on Ethiala's side, and while the war initially went poorly for us, the lack of food in Ethiala, poor management, and pitiful coordination allowed us to win the day. Ethiala was destroyed, its lands divided between Papania, Ohnar West, and Arcaea, Aenilia beaten back and some of their territory seized, and Cathay fought to a standstill.

After a warning from the Sartanian Ruler that as soon as he had the force he intended to strike at Arcaea, we eliminated them (with most of the Sartanian regions going to Arcachon with an agreement that any they could not hold would be ceded to Arcaea), which (among other events) lead to a renewed war with Aenilia, and Cathay managed to convince Zonasa to come to their aid. Many great battles were fought, with no progress made, and eventually peace was managed. However, shortly before it ended, the realm of Mosesadelphia (led by Tony Saprano, and centered in the duchy of Azros) sent a raiding force to support Cathay which burned and raped in Treror. Arcaea was incensed, and half the reason we agreed to peace with the others was that so we might march on them. Even worse, when questioned on this, Tony declared that as a god he need not answer to mortal Rulers, indicating both madness and blackest heresy. During this time, dispute broke out with Ohnar West over matters of noble vs peasant blood, leading to the Akadian war which Arcaea and Aenilia fought against Ohnar West on behalf of the Akadian League, founded in Akanos (see Akadian League for more details on this). This was eventually settled peacefully when Arcaea and later Aenilia were drawn into another war of greater importance...

However, he was supported by the realm of Soliferum, led by Conan McGahee which then ruled the duchies of Taop, Haul, Hatdhes, Alanurs, Masahakon, Ortedail, and Osaliel. Soliferum also had strong influence in Zonasa, and we were attacked by all three powers, leading to many desperate battles on the walls of Talex and Topenah where the Aenil themselves must have intervened to give us victory. The Mosesadelphians proved arrogant beyond belief, and after sacking two Cathayan cities on the way to war against us, Cathay and their allies in Aenilia turned to join us, and Zonasa withdrew from the war. The Crusade had begun in earnest. Many years of war followed, Papania went mad and was taken by Ohnar West, C'thonia formed from the ruins of Mosesadelphia, Zonasa briefly re-entered then left the war on our side, and we reach the present day.
