| Birds chirped in the early morning sun, a light breeze blew loose some reddened leaves off the innumerable mass of trees in the thick forest of Nark, where only scattered slivers of sunlight reached the ground beneath the canopy. The juvenile feline Red Leaf wandered into a small clearing, calmly grooming herself while several adults gathered around a fresh kill. She stared curiously at the ravenous adults while continuing to smooth the soft fur on her head.

She looked up at Clear Stone, who was, to her surprise, smiling. "No, Child. It is a very good thing that you have done. We have not all forgotten, it seems. Learn well, grow well." With a last rub of Red Leaf's head, Clear Stone left with an unsteady gait away from the feeding adults. | |
