How is a player able to determine the skills of their character? besides the pie chart in dwilight (which I can assume is not connected to the fame point system) how is one able to tell if they have earned a fame point for exceptional skill if they are never able to see what percentage they are at. I find the preaching skill especially nonexistant. Has there ever been a message that says a character has earned a preaching skill? [[User:D.west.ton|D.west.ton]] 05:27, 31 October 2008 (CET)

Prestige

Can someone confirm or deny the bit about only battles won gains prest? That does not sound right to me. --Eric S P 23 August 2005 09:37 (CEST)

I confirmed that you get prest even losing a battle. --Eric S P 25 August 2005 21:59 (CEST)
Thanks, that was bugging me, too. I wonder if you get less prestige for losing than for winning? --John 26 August 2005 05:41 (CEST)
I know that winning a lopsided battle get you almost nothing. Honor or Prest. Doing well in a battle your side loses can get you as much and more honor/prest than doing poorly in one your side wins. --Eric S P 26 August 2005 11:30 (CEST)
You can gain prestige when losing a battle, but it is far less likely than for winning one. --Tom 30 August 2005 19:26 (CEST)

There appear to be a whole bunch of things not on the list that require minimum prestige and/or honour, including:

  • police work
  • setting up militia
  • money transfers

Is there a list and/or any indication of what these minimum levels are? As a relatively new player it helps to know what my characters can and can't do-- preferably without wasting turns in the attempt. --Robbiem 14 October 2005 01:02 (CEST)

I'm not sure but I think that these do not require prestige. You have to have been in the game long enough to do some things, but Police work if I recall correctly only needs you to have your men designated as Police force. Setting up militia might require you to have a large enough force, or if you are certain you need something it might be that you can't set up green troops as militia. I had the option to set up militia with 20+ men after 2 battles, one of which was with peasants. As for money transfers you need to have your family stop sending you money and be near a bank to transfer money. Also, the money needs to be in bonds. Ask a player in the game if you are a relatively new character, such as a mentor or failing that your liege-lord if you have a character who is a knight. --The1exile 15 January 2006 12:15 (CET)
Actually, The1exile, those things do have prestige limits (actually, I think the police work one is an honour limit). This is designed to be a simple way to determine that a character has been around long enough to get a feel for things before they start doing some of the tasks that are less of active-duty work and more maintenance. These were set up relatively recently by Tom to prevent realms from relegating new players to bureaucratic/maintenance work and allow them to get a better shot at combat. Sending money to your family is also limited by (I believe) prestige. --Anaris 15 January 2006 20:15 (CET)
Ok, if there are new rules enforced recently then sorry, I hadn't heard of that. But when I first joined my realm, I did not have these restrictions, and that was less than three months ago. Since I was pretty much thrown in at the deep end after about a week, the first opportunity I had to see if I could send money back was aboout a month later when I resupplied back at the capital, but of course by that time I had a decent amount of honour and prestige. If anyone knows what the limits are then by all means add them; I for one don't have the faintest idea. --The1exile 18 January 2006 17:34 (CET)

Honor

There are two things under Honor that can't be right. First it says that everyone starts off with 10, but I just recently started with 8. And it says that at the starting value of honor that a TL can only command 25 men, but I just recruited another 10 men giving me 30 and the game let me do that. (I hope that when I get into a battle that it doesn't decide that I have too many men to command effectively). --JeffW 20:14, 9 May 2006 (CEST)

Yes, it's outdated. I think Fame and character starting age also affect honour. --The1exile 20:25, 9 May 2006 (CEST)
"You may only command half as many Cavalry or Special Forces with the same amount of honour."
This is also inacurate. I have commanded 49 archers, and it will only let me hire 22 special forces. My Honor is just a few points higher than it was then. --Slaadslayer 08:14, 11 September 2008 (CEST)

Prestige requirement for cavalry

This article says you need 5 prestige to recruit cavalry, yet I just created a new character (with 13 honour and 2 prestige, due to my fame, I think) and got the option to have a starting unit of cav. Are starting units an exception, or is the article wrong? (I'm pretty sure there is a requirement for cav, but prehaps it's only 2.) --TomDalton 00:31, 13 July 2006 (CEST)

Possibly that if you are famous enough, you can start with Cavalry? --The1exile 01:25, 13 July 2006 (CEST)

Trading Skill

Can anyone tell me what the trading skill does? I've looked and the wiki doesn't seem to have anything conclusive. Elenar 05:25, 28 March 2007 (CEST)

Lol, now you mention it, what does the skill do? Foreign Curs 16:59, 28 March 2007 (CEST)

I believe it's better chance of not getting caught on the black market, and more chance/bigger profits with misc. goods. --The1exile 17:34, 28 March 2007 (CEST)
