A Mountainous Retreat

Ever since the first settlers arrived in the Colonies, the mountainous hideaway known as Drenga has been difficult to govern. It's remote location has bred an independent and rebellious spirit amongst the Drengans, often leading them to the temptation of fighting for their own independence. They look with suspicion on outsiders, and any appointed Lord keeps his position only by a judicious use of diplomacy, bribery, guile, and force.

The coastal climate provides a moderate growing season and the barley grown in the foothills and valleys of Drenga produces decent ale. Access to the surrounding ocean and the wide Drenga Bay provides for a small fishing industry and some smuggling. Mines in the mountainous interior are a source of many valuable ores and minerals.

The Political heart of Drenga is the settlement of Castellum Drengarium. Its dominated by a fortified army camp, with the houses of the nobles in the centre. All administration of the province is run from the municipal offices here, and it boasts a courthouse, a small ampitheatre, public baths, a large military garrison, several bawdy houses, and numerous shops and taverns.
